Panasonic Avionics is to add NFC to the in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems it supplies to airlines, providing a way for passengers and crew to make contactless payments and for passengers to access a range of personalized travel benefits (18 September 2014).
Pepsi tests NFC for shopper marketing 
Pepsi has tested a new NFC shopper marketing solution developed by logistics optimisation solutions provider Rehrig Pacificthat uses NFC chips and QR codes on display trays to “increase the opportunity for consumer interaction, at the point of sale, without increased merchandising or delivery costs”
Spanish bus drivers to check tickets using NFC 
Madrid-based private bus operator Jiménez Dorado is to introduce a new cloud-based NFC ticketing solution that enables Nexus 5 NFC phones to be used as contactless ticketing readers at a “fraction of the cost of traditional contactless reader infrastructures”.

The smart shelf is a store or warehouse shelf that is able to take stock of itself using RFID technology. It provides real-time inventory to software that could trigger a stock replenishment order, or measure the flow of goods in a specific marketing campaign.
Carrefour equips new digital hypermarket with NFC 
French supermarket giant Carrefour, the world’s fourth largest retailer, has opened a new hypermarket equipped with 55,000 NFC shelf-edge labels that let consumers interact with products.
