The purpose of this stage is to identify where we are now and where we
want to be, guided by our own strategic and self-study documents.
Objective: Define the BIG Goals of Learning within your subject
Outcomes: Statement of Philosophy, rationale, and Program Success
Criteria (based on student learning goals in subject and overall LP/AtL)

6. Session 1 and 2 Engagements
1. Identify the current strengths and areas for development of the
written curriculum in relation to your subject area
a. Review the Self-Study documentation (IB Standards and Practices
- Standard C2 - The Written Curriculum) and collect other data
such as ACER results, DP results, etc.
2. Consider Approaches to Learning skills / Learner Profile attributes in
your Subject Area:
a. What does an IB student “look like” in your subject area? What
should they be able to do?
7. Use all the results to define the big goals for the curriculum of your subject
area. What steps will you need to take to get there?
Some other information to consider will be:
a. The ISS Strategic Plan and Mission
b. DP Subject Guide requirements- knowledge, skills, concepts
c. ATLAS curriculum report - scope and sequence covered through planning
d. International standards
e. DP results data
f. IB Documents- PYP Scope and Sequences and MYP Subject Guides
8. Session 1 and 2 Outcomes
After Session 2, your group should have:
● Statement of Philosophy - What is your shared philosophy in relation to
the written curriculum in this subject area?
● Rationale - What evidence have you gathered to support your
judgements about what is important?
● Program Success Criteria (based on student learning goals in subject
and overall LP/missions) - How will we know that we are meeting
these criteria?
● Next Steps
9. Session 3 and 4 Objectives
January 28 and April 30
● Define timeline and responsibilities within Committee
● Review the defined curriculum structure (from Academic
Council)
● Re-work the content of the Scope and Sequence as necessary
● Identify external resources and professional development
required
10. Session 3 and 4 Engagements
Evaluate your current S&S according to outcomes from Sessions 1 and 2
● DP also evaluates against DP outcomes, MYP against eAssessments
and Guides, PY/P ensures foundation
● Generate data from Atlas to further analyze what is currently
happening
Review and revise S&S from program perspective with input from
other teachers not in your teams as necessary
11. Session 3 and 4 Outcomes
● Revised scope and sequence chart
● Resources and professional development
required
● Recommendations for revised program
implementation needs
12. Subjects in Year 2 Cycle
○ Review Program of Inquiry/Study through lens of the subject
○ Update Assessments and Reporting
○ Revise Unit Plans and document in Atlas
○ Secure required resources and PD
Outcome: Revised Programs and implementation, updated planners (incl.
taught and learned curriculum) and other documentation, updated
resources, etc.
