Grade/Year Level: Grade 10 Subject Area:
Principles of Learning Assessment Teaching Behavior of the Teacher/Learning
Behavior of the Learner as a Proof of the
Application of the Principle of Learning
1. Assessment is an integral part of the
teaching-learning process.
1. After the discussion, Mr. Mejares gave
a quiz regarding on the topic –
Probability in order to complete the
teaching-learning process.
2. Assessment tool/activity should match
with performance objective.
2. One of the performance objective of my
resource teacher is on solving
Probability. So in the evaluation part,
students are given set of problems to be
solved.
3. The results of assessment must be fed
back to the learners.
3. After checking the test, my resource
teacher returned the papers to the
students in order that they will see
which part that they answered correctly
and which part are wrong.
4. Teachers must consider learners’
learning styles and multiple
intelligences and so must come up
with a variety of ways of assessing
learning.
4. Teacher gave varied activities like
board works, group discussion and oral
questioning in order to cater varied
abilities of the students.
5. Give some positive feedback along
with not so good ones.
5. Teacher says, “Yes, you have the idea.”
to answers of some students in order
not to discourage them for having a
wrong response.
6. Emphasize on self-assessment. 6. The teacher gave reflection activity
(essay) in order to attain his affective
objective. In this manner also
7. Assessment of learning should never
be used as punishment or as
disciplinary measure.
7. The teacher gave a test because it is an
integral part of the lesson not because
the students are noisy and stuborn.
8. Emphasize on real world application
that favors realistic performances over
out-of-context drills.
8. My resource teacher asked the students,
“What is the chance that it will rain
today?” during the discussion of
Probability.
9. Results of learning assessment must be
communicated regularly to parents.
9. According to Ma’am Doño, giving of
grades is 15 days after exam. It was this
time that grades were communicated to
parents.
My Analysis
Principle of Learning Assessment Possible consequences If Principle is NOT
Observed
1. Assessment is an integral part of the
teaching-learning process
If not followed, the teaching-learning
process will be impaired because assessment
determines whether what is taught is also,
what the students had learned.
2. Assessment tool/activity should
match with performance objective.
The teacher would not be able to know if the
instructional objective/s was/were met or not
because assessment measures the attainment
of the objectives.
3. The results of assessment must be
fed back to the learners.
Students would not be aware to their level of
attainment or their performance in class.
4. Teachers must consider learners’
learning styles and multiple
intelligences and so must come up
with a variety of ways of assessing
learning.
Since the main purpose of teaching is for the
students to learn, then teaching will become
useless if the teacher will not cater learners’
learning styles.
5. Give some positive feedback along
with not so good ones.
Student/s might get offended and in turn
will become less motivated to learn.
6. Emphasize on self-assessment Students will not be aware to their own
learning, strengths, weaknesses and their
performance in class.
7. Assessment of learning should never
be used as punishment or as
disciplinary measure.
Students will develop rote learning just to
cope up with the punishment which is the
assessment. Besides, assessment is to assess
not to punish.
8. Emphasize on real world application
that favors realistic performances
over out-of-context drills.
Students will not appreciate the importance
of the lessons taught on them in school and
they will not fully understand the lesson
itself.
9. Results of learning assessment must
be communicated regularly to
parents.
The parent will not know the performance of
their children in school. As a result, they
could not give enough support and proper
treatment to their children.
My Reflections
As a student, do I remember any incident when any of these principles was/were
violated by my teachers? How did it affect my classmates and me?
Teachers are not perfect and so, there are instances where my teachers violated some
principles on assessment of learning. Some of the principles that are usually violated are
“assessment should not be used as punishment”, “not emphasizing real world tasks” and
sometimes, “the consideration of varied learning styles.”
After the incident, I had failed to appreciate what I am learning. Same with my
classmates, we were complaining and saying to ourselves, “Why are we studying this lesson
where in fact it has no practical significance or importance to us?”
This incident makes me believe that the observance of the principles is very important.
My Portfolio
Present the principles of assessment of learning in a very creative way.
The Teacher and the Principles of Learning Assessment
The Teacher’s Message to Principles
I am a professional teacher
With power, much like a preacher
I teach students everyday
And give assessment right away.
I used you as my guide
You, principles of learning assessment
It is you that abide
As we straighten every student.
But, sometimes I forgot
That assessment is an integral part
I even know that much
That assessment and objectives must
match.
I sometimes failed in feedbacking
Did not consider varied styles of learning
Since I failed to follow you
Teaching-learning process is impaired
too.
My greatest apology to you
Principles of learning assessment.
Principle’s Reply to the Teacher
I am the principles you follow
Success in teaching to me you owe
I am but just a set of words
But I’m used throughout the world.
You used me as your guide
To you, I always abide
We straighten students together
And made their learning better.
But sometimes, you test your students
An assessment used as punishment
You didn’t emphasize real world
application
Your teaching was left with no action.
But I understand, that’s okay.
You’re not perfect just like me
Some instances just need consideration
For every rule there’s an exemption.
But together we’ll build students
For a brighter tomorrow.
