Principles of Learning Teaching Behavior of the Teacher /Learning
Behavior of the Learner as Proof of the
Application of the Principle of Learning
1. Learning is an experience which occurs
inside the learner and is activated by the
learner.
Sample
1. Teacher lets the learners do the learning
activity. e.g. - Pupil writes letter A
instead of Teacher writing for them.
2. Learning is the discovery of the personal
meaning and relevance of ideas.
2. The Math Teacher, Miss Mary Juliet
Doño, wrote steps in Proving Identities
and she told the students to find out the
result of the sample equation that she
gave.
Following the steps, the learners tried to
figure out the answer of the equation.
3. Learning is a consequence of
experiences.
3. The teacher let her students do some
hands-on activities to help her learners
understand more.
4. Learning is a cooperative and
collaborative process.
4. The teacher allowed her learners to work
with peers or their seatmates in order to
have sharing of understanding.
5. Learning is an evolutionary process. 5. The teacher started the discussion in the
simple part of the lesson and as the class
continues, the also became more
complex. But, this does not happen
abruptly. The teacher shifted from
simple to advance concepts in a gradual
manner thus making the discussion
clear.
6. Learning is sometimes a painful process. 6. During class, it is inevitable that some
students will underestimate the answer
of his/her fellow classmate. This hurt
one’s feelings but it will also encourage
one to study and learn more if he/she
will take those challenges positively.
7. One of the richest resources for the
learning is the learner himself.
7. The Math teacher listened and
considered answers from her students
because it is a manifestation that her
learners truly learn. All the ideas coming
from the learners represent what they
have learn which made them the richest
resources of learning.
8. The process of learning is emotional as
well as intellectual.
8. As a Math student, I can say that
Mathematics is more on intellectual. But
in Grade 9 class, their teacher taught the
students on how to love Mathematics
through manifesting with her the values
such as patience and perseverance. In
other words, she not only appealed her
students intellectually but also
emotionally. It is also once said by
Aristotle that teaching the mind without
teaching the heart is no education at all.
9. The process of problem solving and
learning are highly unique and
individual.
9. Based on my observation, some of the
learners got the lesson easily but some
need more reinforcements such as
examples and more explanation about
the topic. In short, some are fast
learners, others are moderate while
some are slow.
My Analysis
1. What is the impact of the Resource Teacher’s observance of these principles on the
teaching-learning process and on the learners?
Principles of teaching-learning are ideas and philosophies about teaching and
learning. It stands as a guide to teachers. In the teachers’ side, observance of the
principles will lead to more organized discussion while on the side of the learners, using
the principle will make them understand more the topic/lesson.
2. Which learning principle is applied most?
For me, learning principle number 9 which state that “The process of problem
solving and learning are highly unique and individual” was applied the most. It was
evident in Grade 9 learners who have varied differences to their personality and learning
styles.
3. Which learning principle is applied least or not at all applied?
Basing from my observation in Grade 9 Mathematics class, the least applied is “The
process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual.” It is because Math is more on
intellectual aspect. Yes, teaching emotionally is possible but it is hard because the
intellectual part mostly dominates.
4. Do you agree with these principles of learning? Or have you discovered that they do not
always correct?
With respect to the one who created the learning principles and based on my
observations, yes I do agree but as the adage goes that every rule has an exemption, the
learning principles are also not always correct. Say for example, “Learning is a
consequence of experience.” But if the learner does not reflect on his/her experiences,
learning also does not occur. Evenif he experienced it but he does not reflect on it, he will
not learn also.
My Reflections
My reflections on my observations of my Resource Teacher’s observance of these
principles. Did my Resource Teachers adhere to these principles?
My resource teacher, Miss Mary Juliet Doño, is a Mathematics teacher in
Grade 9. He taught the students many concepts in Mathematics especially in
Trigonometry. Her class on January 04 is all about Proving Identities.
As I observed her class, I noticed that she tried her best in explaining to
the students the process to prove identities. Despite the learners’ noise, the lesson
still continued to its goal.
Ma’am Doño may or may not knew or memorized the principles in
teaching learning but her class or the discussion itself showed the application of the
principles. Of course, she is not perfect and some principles are less applied but still
the lesson was discussed clearly to the learners.
Lessons I have learned from my observations on the classroom application of the
principles of learning.
Based from my observations on the classroom application of the principles
of learning, I learned that using/applying these principles in class will lead to a
more organized and orderly lesson. The learners also will have more learning. Also,
goals will likely to be achieve if the mentor adheres to the principles.
My Portfolio
Principles of Learning in My Own Words
1. Learning is Physiological, Psychological as well as personal.
2. Learning is knowing the unseen and understanding its meaning.
3. Learning is by doing.
4. No man is an island in learning.
5. Learning is a gradual change.
6. Learning inflicts the heart.
7. Learning is a treasure owned by the learner himself.
8. Learning is both by heart and by mind.
9. The learning process differs from one another.

  • 2. My Tools OBSERVATION SHEET Name of the Resource Teachers Observed: Mary Juliet Doño School Address: Caridad, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur Date: January 04, 2016 Grade/Year Level: Grade 9 Subject Area: Mathematics Principles of Learning Teaching Behavior of the Teacher /Learning Behavior of the Learner as Proof of the Application of the Principle of Learning 1. Learning is an experience which occurs inside the learner and is activated by the learner. Sample 1. Teacher lets the learners do the learning activity. e.g. - Pupil writes letter A instead of Teacher writing for them. 2. Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning and relevance of ideas. 2. The Math Teacher, Miss Mary Juliet Doño, wrote steps in Proving Identities and she told the students to find out the result of the sample equation that she gave. Following the steps, the learners tried to figure out the answer of the equation. 3. Learning is a consequence of experiences. 3. The teacher let her students do some hands-on activities to help her learners understand more. 4. Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process. 4. The teacher allowed her learners to work with peers or their seatmates in order to have sharing of understanding. 5. Learning is an evolutionary process. 5. The teacher started the discussion in the simple part of the lesson and as the class continues, the also became more complex. But, this does not happen abruptly. The teacher shifted from simple to advance concepts in a gradual manner thus making the discussion clear.
  • 3. 6. Learning is sometimes a painful process. 6. During class, it is inevitable that some students will underestimate the answer of his/her fellow classmate. This hurt one’s feelings but it will also encourage one to study and learn more if he/she will take those challenges positively. 7. One of the richest resources for the learning is the learner himself. 7. The Math teacher listened and considered answers from her students because it is a manifestation that her learners truly learn. All the ideas coming from the learners represent what they have learn which made them the richest resources of learning. 8. The process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual. 8. As a Math student, I can say that Mathematics is more on intellectual. But in Grade 9 class, their teacher taught the students on how to love Mathematics through manifesting with her the values such as patience and perseverance. In other words, she not only appealed her students intellectually but also emotionally. It is also once said by Aristotle that teaching the mind without teaching the heart is no education at all. 9. The process of problem solving and learning are highly unique and individual. 9. Based on my observation, some of the learners got the lesson easily but some need more reinforcements such as examples and more explanation about the topic. In short, some are fast learners, others are moderate while some are slow.
  • 4. My Analysis 1. What is the impact of the Resource Teacher’s observance of these principles on the teaching-learning process and on the learners? Principles of teaching-learning are ideas and philosophies about teaching and learning. It stands as a guide to teachers. In the teachers’ side, observance of the principles will lead to more organized discussion while on the side of the learners, using the principle will make them understand more the topic/lesson. 2. Which learning principle is applied most? For me, learning principle number 9 which state that “The process of problem solving and learning are highly unique and individual” was applied the most. It was evident in Grade 9 learners who have varied differences to their personality and learning styles. 3. Which learning principle is applied least or not at all applied? Basing from my observation in Grade 9 Mathematics class, the least applied is “The process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual.” It is because Math is more on intellectual aspect. Yes, teaching emotionally is possible but it is hard because the intellectual part mostly dominates. 4. Do you agree with these principles of learning? Or have you discovered that they do not always correct? With respect to the one who created the learning principles and based on my observations, yes I do agree but as the adage goes that every rule has an exemption, the learning principles are also not always correct. Say for example, “Learning is a consequence of experience.” But if the learner does not reflect on his/her experiences, learning also does not occur. Evenif he experienced it but he does not reflect on it, he will not learn also.
  • 5. My Reflections My reflections on my observations of my Resource Teacher’s observance of these principles. Did my Resource Teachers adhere to these principles? My resource teacher, Miss Mary Juliet Doño, is a Mathematics teacher in Grade 9. He taught the students many concepts in Mathematics especially in Trigonometry. Her class on January 04 is all about Proving Identities. As I observed her class, I noticed that she tried her best in explaining to the students the process to prove identities. Despite the learners’ noise, the lesson still continued to its goal. Ma’am Doño may or may not knew or memorized the principles in teaching learning but her class or the discussion itself showed the application of the principles. Of course, she is not perfect and some principles are less applied but still the lesson was discussed clearly to the learners. Lessons I have learned from my observations on the classroom application of the principles of learning. Based from my observations on the classroom application of the principles of learning, I learned that using/applying these principles in class will lead to a more organized and orderly lesson. The learners also will have more learning. Also, goals will likely to be achieve if the mentor adheres to the principles.
  • 6. My Portfolio Principles of Learning in My Own Words 1.
