Looking for a database where user profiles and image galleries are equally at home? That comes with built-in full text search, fine-grained access control, flexible schemas, versioning and many more advanced features? Take a look at Apache Jackrabbit, the Java-based content repository that combines the best parts of file systems and databases. This introductory presentation covers Apache Jackrabbit and its hierarchical content model, and shows how it can be used as a powerful foundation of modern content-based applications.

Much of the recent innovation in development tooling has happened around Git-based cloud services like GitHub and Travis CI. While these services are not part of the official Apache infrastructure, it's still possible to use them to complement the tooling available to Apache projects. Based on experience from Apache Jackrabbit, this presentation shows how to leverage such external services while staying true to Apache principles and policies.

Apache Jackrabbit Oak is a new JCR implementation with a completely new architecture. Based on concepts like eventual consistency and multi-version concurrency control, and borrowing ideas from distributed version control systems and cloud-scale databases, the Oak architecture is a major leap ahead for Jackrabbit. This presentation describes the Oak architecture and shows what it means for the scalability and performance of modern content applications. Changes to existing Jackrabbit functionality are described and the migration process is explained.

We're talking about serious log crunching and intelligence gathering with Elastic, Logstash, and Kibana. ELK is an end-to-end stack for gathering structured and unstructured data from servers. It delivers insights in real time using the Kibana dashboard giving unprecedented horizontal visibility. The visualization and search tools will make your day-to-day hunting a breeze. During this brief walkthrough of the setup, configuration, and use of the toolset, we will show you how to find the trees from the forest in today's modern cloud environments and beyond.

Tempto is a product test framework that allows developers to write and execute tests for SQL databases running on Hadoop. Individual test requirements such as data generation, HDFS file copy/storage of generated data and schema creation are expressed declaratively and are automatically fulfilled by the framework. Developers can write tests using Java (using a TestNG like paradigm and AssertJ style assertion) or by providing query files with expected results. We will show how we use it for presto product tests. Benchto is a benchmark framework that provides an easy and manageable way to define, run and analyze macro benchmarks in clustered environment. Understanding behavior of distributed systems is hard and requires good visibility intostate of the cluster and internals of tested system. This project was developed for repeatable benchmarking ofHadoop SQL engines, most importantly Presto.

JDK 17, the next LTS version of Java, is available and it contains not only new language constructs but also there are many operational improvements like higher performance. We have a look at what a Jakarta EE developer will find interesting, even if you are using Jakarta EE 8. Learn about these features and improvements including Records, Text blocks, Garbage collection improvements, and monitoring through Flight Recorder in several live demos with Payara Micro. After this session you will be able to use all new shiny features of JDK 17 in your next Java Enterprise application.

This session covers new improvements that will be introduced in WildFly 9: • Wildfly-core will be extracted from the codebase and the ability to assemble a server on top of it will be introduced. WildFly 9 will be provided in two versions: Wildfly Web and Wildfly Full but users will be able to create their custom packaging of WildFly. • Users will be able to shutdown the application server in a graceful manner - after the shutdown command is executed server will reject new requests and allow existing requests to finish before it shuts down. • Support for HTTP/2, a new version of HTTP protocol based on SPDY, will be introduced. • Users will be able to use WildFly as a load balancer. Consequently, it will be possible to manage the balancer with the same tools that are used to manage the rest of the domain. What is more, users will be able to use more efficient protocols, such as HTTP/2, for communication between the balancer and backend servers. • An OpenShift cartridge, which will enable users to use WildFly 9 in cloud environment, will be provided. • WildFly 9 will use OpenJDK ORB library instead of JacORB.

Slides for my "Tools-in-Action" Talk @ Devoxx 2014 The source code for the demos can be found at http://ro14nd.de/talks/2014/devoxx/jolokia-devoxx-2014-demo.tgz The evolution of the Java Management Extensions (JMX) has stalled. Its fossilisation started some years ago but although JMX's future is more than unclear, it is still present in every JVM out there. However, JMX is not without severe issues in a polyglot world with regard to remote access. Jolokia is an open source project which provides an easy HTTP access to JMX not only for Java clients. Originally intended as backbone for lightweight Nagios monitoring, Jolokia is nowadays used as a general purpose management API adopted by platforms such as ActiveMQ or Spring XD and used by HTML5 consoles like hawt.io. This talk gives a detailed overview of Jolokia and its architecture. Jolokia uses an agent based approach where multiple variants with support for many platforms are available. In addition to standard JMX operations, Jolokia provides unique features like bulk requests or policy based security. The live coding part in this presentation demonstrates how easily a custom browser based JMX-JavaScript client can be developed. A live sneak preview of the forthcoming Jolokia 2.0 release finally completes this session.

Modern web applications have constantly growing requirements and their API and complexity grows exponentially. In this session we'll look at a practical example of how to optimize solutions, like bundling, tree shaking, ahead of time compilation, lazy loading, etc. Also, we will get a glimpse of what it takes to switch a complex product to a modern stack, with Angular in its heart, and how the company's commitment is making it possible.

Under the Covers: Segments of Apache Kafka With Kirill Kulikov | Current 2022 You may be familiar with the primary constructs of Apache Kafka® including topics and partitions. But what is under the hood? The commit-log is the most crucial building block of Kafka. The log is a logical sequence of records composed of segments (files) that deal with storing records and helps replicate data between nodes. Developers will benefit from understanding the internals of Apache Kafka® so they can reason better about topics, partitions, log retention, etc. Understanding the internals of Apache Kafka® is helpful for operators to size the cluster and understand its capabilities. In this presentation, we are going to deep dive into the internals of Kafka log mechanisms. We will look in detail at the structure of the commit-log and segments, topic partitions arrangement on disk, log retention for compact and delete policies. An attendee will take home knowledge of the commit-log structure and code examples of how to analyse and debug the commit-log.

Apache Jackrabbit is just about to reach the 3.0 milestone based on a new architecture called Oak.

Apache Tika aims to make it easier to extract metadata and structured text content from all kinds of files. Tika is a subproject of Apache Lucene, and leverages libraries like Apache POI and Apache PDFBox to provide a powerful yet simple interface for parsing dozens of document formats. This makes Tika an ideal companion for Apache Lucene, or for any search engine that needs to be able to index metadata and content from many different types of files. This presentation introduces Apache Tika and shows how it's being used in projects like Apache Solr and Apache Jackrabbit. You will learn how to integrate Tika with your application and how to configure and extend Tika to best suit your needs.

When you’re building (micro)services, you have lots of framework options. Spring Boot is no doubt a popular choice. But there’s more! Take Quarkus, a framework that’s considered the rising star for Kubernetes-native Java. It always depends on what's best for your situation, but how to choose the best solution if you're comparing 2 frameworks? Both Spring Boot and Quarkus have their positives and negatives. Let us compare the two by live coding a couple of common use cases in Spring Boot and Quarkus. After this talk, you’ll be ready to get started with Quarkus yourself, and know when to select Quarkus or Spring Boot.

The action of the next cyber saga takes place in the mystical lands of the Asia-Pacific region, where the main characters began their digital activities in the middle of 2021 and qualitatively strengthened it in 2022. Corporate espionage, document theft, audio recordings, and data leaks from messaging platforms were all a matter of one day for Dark Pink. Their geographical focus may have started in the Asia-Pacific region, but their ambitions knew no bounds, targeting a European government ministry in a bold move to expand their portfolio. Their victim profile was as diverse as a UN meeting, targeting military organizations, government agencies, and even a religious organization. Because discrimination is not a fashionable agenda. In the world of cybercrime, they serve as a reminder that sometimes the most serious threats come in the most unassuming packages with a pink bow.

Explore how multimodal embeddings work with Milvus. We will see how you can explore a popular multimodal model - CLIP - on a popular dataset - CIFAR 10. You use CLIP to create the embeddings of the input data, Milvus to store the embeddings of the multimodal data (sometimes termed “multimodal embeddings”), and we will then explore the embeddings.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.
