WHAT IS CAREER?
4
OmInstituteofTechnology
The progress and
actions taken by a
person throughout a
lifetime, especially those
related to that person's
occupations.
I would define Career and Life Vision as simply this:
To be able to see your work and career –
what you do and where you do it - in a way that is personally
meaningful, stimulating, inspiring and fulfilling and in alignment with
who you are. .
OBJECTIVE OF CAREER
5
OmInstituteofTechnology
 Success in the life
 Fulfillment of our
dreams
CAREER STRATEGY
6
OmInstituteofTechnology
 Career Strategy is the combination of
structured planning and the active
management choice of one's own
professional career.
“3 Steps Guide to How To Find Your Dream
Career”.
1. The Toughest Part - Know What You Want
2. Know Your Values
3. Know How Much You Are Willing To
Sacrifice
4. Do It For The Right Reasons
5. The Easiest Part :
•Do Your Research
Network With People In The Industry

THE CONTRIBUTOR’S
VISION OF CAREER

9
OmInstituteofTechnology
An acquisitive career
is one in which the career-seeker is focused on acquiring
higher position, higher salary, more benefits, etc.
This preoccupation with selfish interests often
damages the individual’s career, and equally important,
damages the organization and society.
A contributive career
is one where the career-seeker is focused on
contributing, with rewards being a by-product of the
contributions made. 10

ACQUISTIVE
11
OmInstituteofTechnology
 Opportunity vision
 Purpose vision
 Capacity expansion
vision
 External + Internal
growth vision
 Rewards vision
 Domain vision
 Comfort zone vision
 External growth vision
CONTRIBUTIVE
REWARD VISION &
OPPORTUNITY VISION
12
OmInstituteofTechnology
In reward vision, rewards are more
important than quality of work and one’s
development in the job.
But in opportunity vision, a person grabs
opportunities to face challenges and thinks
about one’s own development rather than
salary and perks.
DOMAIN VISION &
PURPOSE VISION
13
OmInstituteofTechnology
A domain oriented non-contributor is bound
in his/her domain of training, and is unwilling
to go beyond that.
But a purpose oriented Contributor is goal-
focused, and is thus willing to learn and do
whatever it takes to serve the purpose.
COMFORT ZONE VISION &
CAPACITY EXPANSION VISION
14
OmInstituteofTechnology
The Non-contributor rigidly sticks to
his/her given job description and his/her
‘comfort zone’.
The Contributor is willing to try out and
learn new things, diversify if needed,
volunteer for new responsibilities, take
on new roles – thus expanding his/her
‘capacity’.
EXTERNAL GROWTH VISION &
EXTERNAL + INTERNAL GROWTH VISION
15
OmInstituteofTechnology
The Non-contributor recognizes
and chases only ‘external’ growth.
The Contributor recognizes and
seeks both external growth as well
as inner growth within him/her self.
EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL
GROWTH VISION

ACCUMULATING MONEY
AND POWER FOR HIS OWN

PERSON.
 CONTRIBUTIVE PERSON

OmInstituteofTechnology
 Your career is an opportunity to make a huge difference to
yourself and to the world at large.
 Explore every day of your life in some or the other productive
work so that you are ready for any challenges in future life.
 Learn things beyond your expertise.
“Those who work at a thing heart and soul not only achieve success in it but through
their absorption in that they also realize the supreme truth—Brahman. Those who work
at a thing with their whole heart receive help from God.”
