2. These are inclined planes, the first picture is a ramp. The ramp is used for lots of things.
It can be used to skate , scoot ,and people in wheel chairs go up and down instead of
going up the stairs or down the stairs. That is the same thing in both pictures.
3. These pictures are levers they have a point that holds up the sides. Also in the first and
second picture it shows a fulcrum holding the sides to make it move up and down. The
pictures are both seesaws and both have fulcrums (points) in the same spots which
makes them levers.
4. These are pulleys, the first picture is demonstrating two blocks pulling each other to
change the weight. The second picture is a boy pulling the string attached to the flag
which makes it rise to the top. Then when you push it, it goes down to the bottom.
That’s how the pulleys work in these pictures.
5. Theses are screws, the first picture is a screw holding the cube to the little building.
The second picture is the inside of a candy machine. It is a screw by turning the snacks
around till they fall also when the screw turns it unscrews and comes forward.
6. The first picture is a wedge which is actually two inclined planes stuck together. The
second picture is a wedge for holding the door shut or open. These are used so people
can get places quicker and so they don’t have to keep opening or closing the doors. It
works by having the thinner part under the door and then if it opens more the thicker
part will stop it. Wedges also keeps things separated or divided.
7. These are wheels and axles, the first picture is a weight. The second picture is a Ferris
wheel. The Ferris wheel is helped by the wheel and axle by using the wheel to turn the
whole machine. the weight has an axle in between two wheels. That is how the wheel
and axle is used in these two machines!
