7. COSTUME INSPIRATION:
I have gotten most of my inspiration from the Kardashians and Jenners; this is because they are in the public eye. Therefore
they are somewhat stars and so have to appear desirable to society; this links to Richard Dyer’s star theory. Their style as a
family is very glamourous, casual but chic and always flawless. This is one of the reasons why I believe replicating their style
and outfits when I come to create my music video will be perfect. Although they are not artists their fashion is very similar
people from the music industry. This is shown in the first collage I have produced; this is because I personally think a
bomber jacket paired with a pair of skinny jeans is something that would be expected in an R&B music video. Artists such
as Beyoncé may wear this type of outfit, as it is casual but still very fashionable. Especially the khaki colour which is in
fashion now, this jacket paired with a pair of giant hoop earrings would be perfect for my genre. The second collage I
produced is much more feminine than the previous, this is because the Kardashians and Jenners are wearing longline
duster coats. I may include something similar in my music video to make my artist look feminine and pretty. However it is
not really typcal of my genre, but if I am trying to portray my artist as glamourous I may dress her in this. This collage of
photographs is very similar to the last, expect the last is much more casual. I have included a more casual version as Dyer
states that the star has to be somewhat “normal” as the audience can relate. Therefore by including images of skinny jeans,
a plain t-shirt and leather jacket etc. the star in my video will come across as “normal” and similar to the audience as they
may wear these clothes. I have shown photographs of Kourtney, Kylie and Khloé in one-piece swimsuits because I think this
type of clothing would look great in my music video. This is for may reasons, one being Beyoncé has wore something similar
in her Yoncé music video and another being that my video will conform to The Male Gaze Theory suggested by Laura
Mulvey. Therefore my artist will look provocative and will conform to not only this theory but the conventions of my chosen
genre. I have created two collages of dresses, one very “everyday casual” and the other “night time glam”. This is because I
want my artist to look glamourous in my music video and very feminine. The everyday dress/slouchy jumper can look very
effortlessly flawless and sexy. This is something I want the audience to think when they watch my video, this is because
they will find this desirable and be envious of her. The night time glam has been included as my artist will conform to the
genre of R&B and music videos in general.
