We were officially incorporated in February 2011 and launched the membership organization at the first ACMP Global Change Conference in Orlando. In In the last three years we’ve had the privilege of gathering over 2,000 members who have helped launch chapters around the world.
ACMP easily lays greatest claim to being the largest international change management association.
Currently there are 17 Chapters Established and In Development
While not every area is represented by a chapter, we have members in 56 countries including Australia, Netherlands, China, Russia,
We’ve a great team of volunteers – both members and non-members - from many different countries participate in the development of questions for the CCMP exam. This shows who has participated so far for the first two sessions in Chicago and Dubai.
We’ll be adding participants for Brussels and Singapore shortly.
Establishing a code of ethics is also critical to a profession. We have a standard by which our members provide service to their clients, as consultants, internal practitioners, educators and academics.
In August 2012 ACMP chartered the Standards Working Group. Over the past two years the SWG, consisting of 28 members from around the globe conducted the first independently led Market Research on Change Management, a Change Management Practice Analysis, and the development of ACMP’s Standard, which followed ISO Standards to ensure we followed a rigorous, inclusive and unbiased process. The SWG facilitated a public comment period on the first draft of ACMP’s Standard in March of 2014, receiving comments from +1100 change practitioners from >50 countries who provided more than 3,500 valid comments addressed by the SWG team. Each comment was responded to.
The Standard provides the basis for the CCMP certification. The exam focuses on the application of skill related to each of the 5 domains in The Standard.
ACMP’s Qualified Education Provider (QEP) program qualifies change management training and continuing education courses that align to ACMP's Standard for Change Management and adult education best practices. The QEP registry provides practitioners and CCMP candidates with one place to find the change management courses they need.
These are all critical components for a profession, but one further addition will really solidify our profession. Research helped us determine what that was.
We did our homework before mapping our path forward. Market research released on March, 2013 indicated that change management is still very much developing as a profession. Each of the elements put in place so far take us a long way towards unifying the profession. Certification will complete the vision.
ACMP has committed to developing industry recognized certification programs. CCMP will be the first of several credentials to be offered.
Our initial focus is on certification for change management practitioners.
And that completes the picture of a strong profession.
The Certified Change Management Professional is the core credential for practitioners who spend most or all of their time on the activities outlined in The Standard.
It’s important to define ‘What In It For Me’.
Why do you think CCMP will be beneficial to individuals?
Can you think of why organizations would want this certification?
Here are the three basic requirements for certification.
We might call them the three e-migos.
Let’s walk through the process.
There are many differences between a certificate and certification. Think about how you achieved your last certificate. It probably came with the completion of a course, possibly including a test of your knowledge of what was covered in class.
Creating and obtaining a certification required much more, and that is how CCMP is able to ‘say more’ about what a CM professional is capable of doing.
ACMP is recognized globally for promoting and supporting the adoption of change management practices that facilitate and support individual and organizational change and the realization of its intended business results.
CCMP is based on ACMP’s Standard which is method neutral and available free of charge for use anywhere in the world.
CCMP certifies more than a level of knowledge. It provides assurance that a practitioner demonstrates a specific level of competency.
ACMP is driving the value of its certification in a number of ways:
Developing the certification according to the standards of an external body (ISO/ANSI/IEC)
Increasing its global recognition through a worldwide marketing campaign
We’ve already made a lot of progress. Our item writing workshops are complete already.
CCMP leadership has been working with our partner, Kellen, to work through a process of selecting a vendor who can set up and manage our exam online and provide testing centers internationally so professionals can complete it.
Watch for udpates from our market readiness team which is embarking on an extensive social media campaign to drive awareness and interest in our certification.
We’ll talk more about this journey later in our conversation but for context, we were officially incorporated in February 2011 and launched the membership organization at the first ACMP Global Change Conference in Orlando. In In the last three years we’ve had the privilege of gathering over 2,000 members who have helped launch over a dozen local chapters around the world.
Our very first chapter was in Africa and there are now over a dozen around the world. This isn’t our only way of gathering people interested in change. We’ve held conferences in Africa, MENA and in Europe including Copenhagen and London.
But this isn’t about us, we are here to share with you what we learned along our journey.
The key objectives of the project are:
To develop a new CCMP™ certification program, with all the necessary materials, documentation, technology, information and resources necessary for its operation;
To target, market and launch the CCMP™ program so that it brings in revenue and build ACMP’s reputation;
To ensure that CCMP™ is meaningful and attractive to our target market(s); and
To ensure that CCMP™ is prepared in accordance with ISO 17024, paving the way for accreditation at a later date.
Standard Launches October 2, 2014
Method neutral
A definition of practices, processes, tasks and activities (no tools or templates)
The foundation for a professional credential
ACMP’s Standard document contains descriptions of scope, normative references, terms and definitions, and concepts.
It is organized in five knowledge areas which describe the processes that form good practice for managing change in organizations, which are:
Evaluate Change Impact and Organizational Readiness
Formulating Change Management Strategy
Developing Change Management Plans
Executing Change Management Plans
Closing the Change Management Effort
The way in which the information in ACMP’s Standard is organized in the five knowledge areas is not intended to present a linear approach to change management, rather as process groups which are associations of similar or related processes that serve as guides for the application of change management throughout the change management implementation.
