Project Title
Technology Updates
Project Grade(s) No. of Children Involved Project Start Date (no Project End Date (no later than)
                                                    earlier than 12/1)
2nd 22 2/14/2010 3/14/2010

Please describe the following in as much detail as possible within the space provided:

• Student Learning Objectives

The students will intergrate technology into their daily routine when they go to their “learning centers”.
The students will learn to use technology as another learning strategy
The students will learn research and study skills by using technological advancements.
The students will learn the components and purposes of computers.

• Methods of Instruction (What do you intend to do in your classroom with your students?)

In the classroom, during the time that students go to their group learning centers, computers will begin to
be implemented into the stations. The children will log onto the new computer and play one of the games
purchased with the technology grant to further their knowledge in the area or subject. This will form new
ideas of how fun learning can truly be for children in the 2nd grade.

• Project Timeline (What activities happen and when?)
In mid-February the new computer and software will be ordered and delivered to the classroom. It will
take approximately one week for the teacher to set everything up and download the games and software
onto the new computer. After that, the students will begin learning how to play the games on the computer
and begin to learn new ways to understand new material. This should all be accomplished by mid-March.
At this time, there will be two assessments given to see how much the technology is paying off.

• Method of Evaluation

The children will be assessed in two different ways. The first way will be a navigation test to see if they
know how to work the computer and the software that was purchased. The second assessment will be a
written test that tests them on the games and subjects that were supposed to be learning while on the
computer. With a combination of these two evaluations, I can see if they know how to work the hardware
and software properly, and if the information is useful and benefiting their learning.

BUDGET
List items to be purchased and costs. Combine like items so that there are no more than six categories.

1. Item #1 New Desktop Computer
                                                                                       400.00

2. Item #2 Microsoft Office 130.00
3. Item #3 Printer 70.00
                                     nd
4. Item #4 Jumpstart advanced 2 grade 120.00
5. Item #5 Children’s talking dictionary 80.00
6. Item #6 Reading Blaster- Grammar 100.00
Total Request (may not exceed $1,000) 1,000

Please summarize your project idea and explain how the materials listed in the budget above will be used.

My project idea is to purchase new technology for the classroom that will enrich their knowledge of
technology but will also present a new and fun way to facilitate learning. The new desktop computer will
be the foundation of all the learning that will take place. The printer will be used for printing materials off of
websites that can be used as activities in the classrooms. Microsoft Office will be used by the students
and the teachers. Word can be used for typing letters to parents but it can also be used for students to
write stories. Excel will be used a lot by the teacher for having grade books using spreadsheets and
Power point will be used a lot for presentations on the projector as a way to teach students not out of a
workbook. The talking dictionary will be used for the students who cannot figure out how to say certain
words. They can type them in and learn how to spell them! The rest of the software will be games and
activities that can be used to teach lessons and chapters to students.

Toshiba America, Inc. and the Toshiba America operating companies. Toshiba Corporation is a world leader in the
development of high technology products.

The items I decided to purchase relate to The North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the
NETS-T in many ways. My objectives for the children are based around the idea that integrating
technology into the classroom will present them with greater challenges along with a lot of fun.
They will use these items that were purchased in order to increase their knowledge of computers
as well as to teach and apply higher order thinking skills. It will also be used to collect data from
the students that show their familiarity to technology and if they learn well using the software.
All of these ideas relate directly to the NETS-T standards which state some of the same ideas and
objectives.

The students will learn to use technology as another learning strategy The students will learn research and study skills by using technological advancements. The students will learn the components and purposes of computers. • Methods of Instruction (What do you intend to do in your classroom with your students?) In the classroom, during the time that students go to their group learning centers, computers will begin to be implemented into the stations. The children will log onto the new computer and play one of the games purchased with the technology grant to further their knowledge in the area or subject. This will form new ideas of how fun learning can truly be for children in the 2nd grade. • Project Timeline (What activities happen and when?)
  • 3. In mid-February the new computer and software will be ordered and delivered to the classroom. It will take approximately one week for the teacher to set everything up and download the games and software onto the new computer. After that, the students will begin learning how to play the games on the computer and begin to learn new ways to understand new material. This should all be accomplished by mid-March. At this time, there will be two assessments given to see how much the technology is paying off. • Method of Evaluation The children will be assessed in two different ways. The first way will be a navigation test to see if they know how to work the computer and the software that was purchased. The second assessment will be a written test that tests them on the games and subjects that were supposed to be learning while on the computer. With a combination of these two evaluations, I can see if they know how to work the hardware and software properly, and if the information is useful and benefiting their learning. BUDGET List items to be purchased and costs. Combine like items so that there are no more than six categories. 1. Item #1 New Desktop Computer 400.00 2. Item #2 Microsoft Office 130.00 3. Item #3 Printer 70.00 nd 4. Item #4 Jumpstart advanced 2 grade 120.00 5. Item #5 Children’s talking dictionary 80.00 6. Item #6 Reading Blaster- Grammar 100.00 Total Request (may not exceed $1,000) 1,000 Please summarize your project idea and explain how the materials listed in the budget above will be used. My project idea is to purchase new technology for the classroom that will enrich their knowledge of technology but will also present a new and fun way to facilitate learning. The new desktop computer will be the foundation of all the learning that will take place. The printer will be used for printing materials off of websites that can be used as activities in the classrooms. Microsoft Office will be used by the students and the teachers. Word can be used for typing letters to parents but it can also be used for students to write stories. Excel will be used a lot by the teacher for having grade books using spreadsheets and Power point will be used a lot for presentations on the projector as a way to teach students not out of a workbook. The talking dictionary will be used for the students who cannot figure out how to say certain words. They can type them in and learn how to spell them! The rest of the software will be games and activities that can be used to teach lessons and chapters to students. Toshiba Corporation is a world leader in the development of high technology products. The items I decided to purchase relate to The North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the NETS-T in many ways. My objectives for the children are based around the idea that integrating technology into the classroom will present them with greater challenges along with a lot of fun. They will use these items that were purchased in order to increase their knowledge of computers as well as to teach and apply higher order thinking skills. It will also be used to collect data from the students that show their familiarity to technology and if they learn well using the software. All of these ideas relate directly to the NETS-T standards which state some of the same ideas and objectives.
