You’ve got a WordPress website, that’s great! Now you’re probably wondering how to get more people to see and visit it with all the hard work you put into it. Thankfully there’s plugins and strategy you can use to boost your search engine ranking, and you’ll be learning more about those during this presentation.
3. LET’S TALK HOSTING
Not all hosting providers are the same. In most cases you get what
you pay for. Looking for an inexpensive setup, you’re probably
going to have lower resources for space, server memory, and
slower processing power. Though this may be adequate for many,
especially those just getting started with a new website, but plan
to upgrade sooner than later to improve your visitors page load
and website performance.
4. SHARED HOSTING
The memory allotted your hosting
package may have limitations for
allocation and amount. Once you run
out, you’re website performance takes
a dive
VPS
MEMORY
A popular and inexpensive option
where your website sites inside of a
cluster of servers with tens of
hundreds of other customer websites
all sharing server resources.
A Virtual Private Server allows your
WordPress installation, database, and
files to all be siloed alone. You don’t
have to worry about other website
issues from other customers, yet you
are more responsible for your files.
5. CONTENT
STRATEGYAND TACTICS
Creating great content is still a major element when getting Google to recognize
your efforts and then referring people to visit your website to consume it.
6. YOUR THEME HAS TO BE READY
SEO FRIENDLY
Just having a nice looking website isn’t all that is necessary to help
your SEO ranking and scores. Your theme needs to also make it
easy to be:
• Accessible to SEO crawlers
• Have areas on your pages for meta data
• Render your content for desktop and mobile devices
• Have layouts available for various types of identified content
7. Having an SSL Certificate helps your visitors build trust in
their interactions with your website, secure transactions
and data, and Google penalizes if you don’t have one.
SSL CERTIFICATE
This is an easy one but sometimes overlooked. Be
sure you have unchecked the option to “Discourage
search engines from indexing this site” from the
Reading section within you WP Settings menu
SEACH ENGINE INDEXING (ENABLED)
When it comes to your blog posts, it helps to have a
couple of links that lead to other articles and pages
for more relevant content on the subject.
INTERNAL LINKING
Having the right size image that displays correctly on
desktop and mobile, while also having proper ALT
text are all essential practices you should employ.

8. If you only have time to write and publish once a
month, do it the same day and time every month. But
the more you publish the more chances one or more
of those articles gets indexed and scored high.

Using your theme options and plugins like YoastSEO
to enter your page descriptions, site title, site tagline,

identifying your content to relevant search results is
tedious but very necessary.

Make your topics super relevant for your visitors/
audience. Use keywords strategically in titles and
descriptions. Design a really easy to navigate layout.
SETUP AN FAQ PAGE
The amount of natural-speak text is what Google is

good, Google is also looking for long form content.

10. LANDING
PAGES(AKA SQUEEZE PAGES)
Landing pages are essentially single purpose informational pages where people can learn
about a product or service. The main objective is to have them take an action once they’ve
“landed” here. Be it to sign up for a newsletter, purchase something, or register.

16. 301 REDIRECTS
REDIRECTING TRAFFIC TO UPDATED LINKS/CONTENT
If you’ve had your website online for a long period of time, have a lot of old blog posts, and
other content that may not have been touched or updated in a while, or even old pages that
you have removed; a 301 redirect will automatically bring visitors who may have found an old
link to a new link or page on your website that has related content or replaced content.
A simple way to do this is to add a line (or lines) within your .HTACCESS
with the string below and edit for your old and new pages:
Redirect 301 /current-page.html yoursite.com/new-page/
17. LET ME TELL YOU A STORY
I recently did an audit on a lot of old content on
my website that was created years ago when I
had a team of content writers. We had topics
such as fonts, illustrations, and the like still bring
in visitors but they were negatively affecting my
bounce rates. This because I no longer create
content around those topics and the existing
posts and content are old and dated.
The biggest thing is that the traffic to those
pages isn’t making people look towards my more
recent content nor convert to a subscriber or
buyer of my products.
19. YOAST SEO
This is a very widely used and trusted brand, and this entry-level FREE plugin they offer will
really help you optimize some basic settings for your website and individual pages.
20. BROKEN
LINK
CHECKER
Understanding what links are not working on your website is crucial. This plugin will
monitor and test your links in pages and posts as well as missing images.
