1.Introduction
If you are interested in math, science, and computers, you should consider a degree
in computer engineering. Engineers like to innovate, be creative, work in teams,
explore how things work, design new products, and solve problems. As computers
continue to integrate themselves into our everyday lives there is a need for
engineers who understand their principles of operation and how to innovate new
applications. Computer Engineering students examine the design, operation and
application of computers from the transistors used to build logic gates to the
computer architectures that run programs. Graduates of this program have career
opportunities in many industries, including computer systems design, digital
systems, systems analysis, software engineering, and data communications and
information systems. The widespread use of computers has created a need for
engineers who understand the design and utilization of computers and digital
systems in a variety of applications. Computer Engineering is an exciting and
growing field that seeks to solve engineering problems using digital and analog
electronics in combination with computer software.
2.About CSE
2.1 What is CSE?
Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a broad multidisciplinary
area that encompasses applications in Science/engineering, applied
mathematics, numerical analysis, and computer science.
2.2 Why study CSE
Computer Science is an exciting, growing, challenging field that has impact in
most aspects of everyday life. These areas include medicine, communications,
automotive technology, weather forecasting, entertainment, mining, pharmacology,
forensics, manufacturing, disaster recovery, security, law, business. For practically
any area you can think of there is an application of computer technology. Yet there
are still many new computer applications to be discovered and implemented in that
area, and you could be involved in that exciting endeavor and service to humanity.

2.3 What you may learn
Along with a strong emphasis on computing skills, there are many other
mainstream CSE courses that help one becoming a Computer Engineer. Computer
Engineering students examine the design, operation and application of computers
from the transistors used to build logic gates to the computer architectures that run
programs. Students specializing in these fields are equipped to proceed into
industrial development of microprocessors. Other areas of computer science are on
strong focus in CSE. CSE students, especially those with a mindset of a career
along the lines of a software engineer, are required to develop essential strong
programming skills, which calls for learning Programming languages as C, C++,
Java and C#, and to be able to write clean and efficient code. These skills as well
as those mentioned above make a combination essential for students interested in
A.I or automation, which requires interesting interactions between software and
hardware, electronics and mechanics to develop efficient automated systems for
use in industries and products such as cars and smart technology. Prospective
software engineers benefit from this program as throughout this course CSE
students are taught the science being computing technology. Hence various courses
are taught, including Algorithms, Numerical Methods, Data structures, Database,
and Data management. The binary functioning of computers is manipulated by
codes that implement strong algorithms powered by discrete mathematics to work
on the logical aspects of computer functioning. Powerful data structures such as
graphs are needed to enhance data handling and manipulation. For those interested
in the web, courses such as Web designing, Networking, Web Applet development
in addition to high emphasis on programming in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other
web scripting languages, provide a good foundation to build their professional
skills on. Software engineers are taught details of product design and development
as well as software lifecycle management, which helps develop and maintain
sustainable software.
The entire program includes a focus on analyzing problems, evaluating them
logically and solving them, be it for effectiveness or efficiency. Study in the areas
stated here and projects for practical hand on experience are aimed at developing
knowledge and skills essential for a CSE student, whether they may be planning on
becoming a Software Engineer or a Computer Engineer, an Analyst or an
Entrepreneur.

4.Opinion – Expectation and Experiences
4.1. Students opinion
"Though I initially intended to study my undergrads in a well qualified public
educatinal institution, I ended up in GUB and am quite happy about it.
I appear from somewhat weak financial circumstaces, not being able to afford
expensive education in private universities and therefore aimed at public
universities. Due to some health issues I didn't make it there and decited to
get admitted to the best private institution I could afford. I liked CSE and
started studying it at GUB. The teaches are highly qualified and come from
wonderful universities. I feel privelleged to be with them and being taught by
them. Though the resources in the library are inadequate in terms of quantity
for the expanding number of stuedents, edecation at GUB has been wonderful
for me!"

"My experience at GUB was phenomenal!
Though I was fascinated with websites and codes, I had little intention to
continue my studies as a CSE student. My majoring in CSE was a throw in
the dark; but, Alhamdulillah, I was amazed! I came to enjoy it as I started my
ABCs in programming. I began to get to know different people and embrace
their being in my life. I found study by cooperating with them quite exciting!
The highly qualified faculty and teachers were often excellent and
cooperative. I did face the ill-effects of a small campus with little space for
cooperative work or recreation. Honestly, I was in for a shock discovering the
lack of abundant facilities! The library could use more desks and books, the
prayer area more space and cleansing facilities, and the labs more desks and
equipment. The authority seemed slack and hosting frequent impotent events
in the beginning though they are more compliant now. Yet, I am grateful to
Allah for a place here!"

4.2 Professors Opinion about CSE.
Professor Greg Dudek
"Personally, I love computer science and here's why.
Computer Science is one of the few academic disciplines
that truly embodies the future.
For me, CS has three key poles that define the field:
1. There is an abundance of "pure" theory and theoretical problems, including open
problems to be defined and solved.
2. There is an ability to bring ideas to fruition in the real world. This provides a
wonderful sense of concrete impact and utility, and can provide a lot of
satisfaction. Further, as a result you can directly "make things happen" in the
outside world, either by doing something good or useful, or by making money.
3. There is the opportunity to work on understanding intelligence, communication,
cognition and the basic questions of what define our identity and existence.
As a Computer Scientist one can mix and match these poles in various ways. On
top of all that there are plenty of jobs and, better yet, different kinds of jobs."
Professor Tim Merrett
"For me, computing is the enabling technology for just about
everything. Of course, computing is good for business. That is
where it started becoming popular. We need computing for
accounting, for predicting the stock market, for controlling
manufacturing, for inventory and personnel administration.
More interestingly, computing is essential for understanding
things. Physics calculated without computers for a few hundred
years, but now physics needs computers. Condensed matter physics would be
impossible without numerical computations. So would figure out the quantum
mechanics of molecules. Theoretical biology is a computational science. Social
sciences use computers to do, for instance, factor analysis of complex situations or
of personalities. Computers are even joining the study of the humanities, beyond
the now ubiquitous text and image processing.
Finally, computer science itself brings new insights to language, to deduction and
to thought. Programs are machines with no physical parts, and computer science is
the study of these transcendent things."

5. Suggestions
5.1 To Prospective Students
To prepare for CSE, just as for any other major in college, there is no substitute for
a solid and broad academic education that includes challenging courses in
academic subjects and good grades. A minimum of elementary algebra and
geometry should be completed, while trigonometry, calculus, physics, and
chemistry are highly recommended but not required for acceptance by all computer
programs. A good High school transcript boosts chances of acceptance into such
programmers. Emphasis is placed on basic computing literacy, and any advanced
computer and advanced technology courses that are challenging and rigorous are
desirable, but not required. Additional subjects in high school should include
English, social studies, foreign languages, and the arts. Solid English and
communications skills are very important.
In addition, you could take courses that focus on logical and discrete mathematics.
Further Mathematics courses that teach on imaginary numbers along with a good
hold on circuitry in physics could help you with CSE just as in other engineering
courses. Other fields in mathematics you could work on are number theory, vectors
and matrices. Achieving good programming skills could also boost performance in
college as well as giving you an opportunity to enjoy computing or whether you
are interested in computing at all. If you are interested in codes, fascinated by
puzzles, lured by problems that involve critical thinking, enthralled by logical
thinking and drawn into deep analysis, CSE might just be you’re major!
15 | P a g e
5.2 To GUB Students
GUB CSE has come a long way since the beginning of its journey, in this short
time that has passed. Yet, there are miles to go till it gains recognition as a
university of truly international educational standards.
The first suggestion would be to expand its campuses to accumulate the massive
and growing student body, as well as new facilities to aid their university
experience and development. Indeed the libraries hold necessary resources to
support the curricula though there is yet room for improvement; the library could
house books from several publishers and writers for each subject, regardless of
time of publishing, in order to increase the diversity of knowledge. Not only should
increase the volumes of its book but its own volume so that students find ample
space and a quiet and comforting environment to study in. The libraries could be
enhanced with computers aiding online learning and easier access to resources both
available physically or otherwise. Students should be provided easy access to labs
and sufficient space so that they may work cooperatively, enhancing both quality
and speed of learning. They must be allowed recreational opportunities as well as
extracurricular activities to develop impotent skills they may be interested in and to
aid their focus while studying. GUB should also be flexible in providing funds for
activities aiding students' development, such seminars as in career counseling, and
frequent competitive events such as programming contests. Students should be
encouraged, aided and well funded for projects they are interested in as well as
external events beneficial to students.

  • 4. 4 | P a g e 1.Introduction If you are interested in math, science, and computers, you should consider a degree in computer engineering. Engineers like to innovate, be creative, work in teams, explore how things work, design new products, and solve problems. As computers continue to integrate themselves into our everyday lives there is a need for engineers who understand their principles of operation and how to innovate new applications. Computer Engineering students examine the design, operation and application of computers from the transistors used to build logic gates to the computer architectures that run programs. Graduates of this program have career opportunities in many industries, including computer systems design, digital systems, systems analysis, software engineering, and data communications and information systems. The widespread use of computers has created a need for engineers who understand the design and utilization of computers and digital systems in a variety of applications. Computer Engineering is an exciting and growing field that seeks to solve engineering problems using digital and analog electronics in combination with computer software. 2.About CSE 2.1 What is CSE? Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a broad multidisciplinary area that encompasses applications in Science/engineering, applied mathematics, numerical analysis, and computer science. 2.2 Why study CSE Computer Science is an exciting, growing, challenging field that has impact in most aspects of everyday life. These areas include medicine, communications, automotive technology, weather forecasting, entertainment, mining, pharmacology, forensics, manufacturing, disaster recovery, security, law, business. For practically any area you can think of there is an application of computer technology. Yet there are still many new computer applications to be discovered and implemented in that area, and you could be involved in that exciting endeavor and service to humanity.
  • 5. 5 | P a g e 2.3 What you may learn Along with a strong emphasis on computing skills, there are many other mainstream CSE courses that help one becoming a Computer Engineer. Computer Engineering students examine the design, operation and application of computers from the transistors used to build logic gates to the computer architectures that run programs. Students specializing in these fields are equipped to proceed into industrial development of microprocessors. Other areas of computer science are on strong focus in CSE. CSE students, especially those with a mindset of a career along the lines of a software engineer, are required to develop essential strong programming skills, which calls for learning Programming languages as C, C++, Java and C#, and to be able to write clean and efficient code. These skills as well as those mentioned above make a combination essential for students interested in A.I or automation, which requires interesting interactions between software and hardware, electronics and mechanics to develop efficient automated systems for use in industries and products such as cars and smart technology. Prospective software engineers benefit from this program as throughout this course CSE students are taught the science being computing technology. Hence various courses are taught, including Algorithms, Numerical Methods, Data structures, Database, and Data management. The binary functioning of computers is manipulated by codes that implement strong algorithms powered by discrete mathematics to work on the logical aspects of computer functioning. Powerful data structures such as graphs are needed to enhance data handling and manipulation. For those interested in the web, courses such as Web designing, Networking, Web Applet development in addition to high emphasis on programming in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other web scripting languages, provide a good foundation to build their professional skills on. Software engineers are taught details of product design and development as well as software lifecycle management, which helps develop and maintain sustainable software. The entire program includes a focus on analyzing problems, evaluating them logically and solving them, be it for effectiveness or efficiency. Study in the areas stated here and projects for practical hand on experience are aimed at developing knowledge and skills essential for a CSE student, whether they may be planning on becoming a Software Engineer or a Computer Engineer, an Analyst or an Entrepreneur.

  • 11. 11 | P a g e 4.Opinion – Expectation and Experiences 4.1. Students opinion "Though I initially intended to study my undergrads in a well qualified public educatinal institution, I ended up in GUB and am quite happy about it. I appear from somewhat weak financial circumstaces, not being able to afford expensive education in private universities and therefore aimed at public universities. Due to some health issues I didn't make it there and decited to get admitted to the best private institution I could afford. I liked CSE and started studying it at GUB. The teaches are highly qualified and come from wonderful universities. I feel privelleged to be with them and being taught by them. Though the resources in the library are inadequate in terms of quantity for the expanding number of stuedents, edecation at GUB has been wonderful for me!" - Joy Protim B.Sc in CSE Green University of Bangladesh 3rd Semested ID: 142002014
  • 12. 12 | P a g e "My experience at GUB was phenomenal! Though I was fascinated with websites and codes, I had little intention to continue my studies as a CSE student. My majoring in CSE was a throw in the dark; but, Alhamdulillah, I was amazed! I came to enjoy it as I started my ABCs in programming. I began to get to know different people and embrace their being in my life. I found study by cooperating with them quite exciting! The highly qualified faculty and teachers were often excellent and cooperative. I did face the ill-effects of a small campus with little space for cooperative work or recreation. Honestly, I was in for a shock discovering the lack of abundant facilities! The library could use more desks and books, the prayer area more space and cleansing facilities, and the labs more desks and equipment. The authority seemed slack and hosting frequent impotent events in the beginning though they are more compliant now. Yet, I am grateful to Allah for a place here!" -Asef Tajwar Rahman B.Sc in CSE Green University of Bangladesh 3rd Semester ID: 142002033
  • 13. 13 | P a g e 4.2 Professors Opinion about CSE. Professor Greg Dudek "Personally, I love computer science and here's why. Computer Science is one of the few academic disciplines that truly embodies the future. For me, CS has three key poles that define the field: 1. There is an abundance of "pure" theory and theoretical problems, including open problems to be defined and solved. 2. There is an ability to bring ideas to fruition in the real world. This provides a wonderful sense of concrete impact and utility, and can provide a lot of satisfaction. Further, as a result you can directly "make things happen" in the outside world, either by doing something good or useful, or by making money. 3. There is the opportunity to work on understanding intelligence, communication, cognition and the basic questions of what define our identity and existence. As a Computer Scientist one can mix and match these poles in various ways. On top of all that there are plenty of jobs and, better yet, different kinds of jobs." Professor Tim Merrett "For me, computing is the enabling technology for just about everything. Of course, computing is good for business. That is where it started becoming popular. We need computing for accounting, for predicting the stock market, for controlling manufacturing, for inventory and personnel administration. More interestingly, computing is essential for understanding things. Physics calculated without computers for a few hundred years, but now physics needs computers. Condensed matter physics would be impossible without numerical computations. So would figure out the quantum mechanics of molecules. Theoretical biology is a computational science. Social sciences use computers to do, for instance, factor analysis of complex situations or of personalities. Computers are even joining the study of the humanities, beyond the now ubiquitous text and image processing. Finally, computer science itself brings new insights to language, to deduction and to thought. Programs are machines with no physical parts, and computer science is the study of these transcendent things."
  • 14. 14 | P a g e 5. Suggestions 5.1 To Prospective Students To prepare for CSE, just as for any other major in college, there is no substitute for a solid and broad academic education that includes challenging courses in academic subjects and good grades. A minimum of elementary algebra and geometry should be completed, while trigonometry, calculus, physics, and chemistry are highly recommended but not required for acceptance by all computer programs. A good High school transcript boosts chances of acceptance into such programmers. Emphasis is placed on basic computing literacy, and any advanced computer and advanced technology courses that are challenging and rigorous are desirable, but not required. Additional subjects in high school should include English, social studies, foreign languages, and the arts. Solid English and communications skills are very important. In addition, you could take courses that focus on logical and discrete mathematics. Further Mathematics courses that teach on imaginary numbers along with a good hold on circuitry in physics could help you with CSE just as in other engineering courses. Other fields in mathematics you could work on are number theory, vectors and matrices. Achieving good programming skills could also boost performance in college as well as giving you an opportunity to enjoy computing or whether you are interested in computing at all. If you are interested in codes, fascinated by puzzles, lured by problems that involve critical thinking, enthralled by logical thinking and drawn into deep analysis, CSE might just be you’re major!
  • 15. 15 | P a g e 5.2 To GUB Students GUB CSE has come a long way since the beginning of its journey, in this short time that has passed. Yet, there are miles to go till it gains recognition as a university of truly international educational standards. The first suggestion would be to expand its campuses to accumulate the massive and growing student body, as well as new facilities to aid their university experience and development. Indeed the libraries hold necessary resources to support the curricula though there is yet room for improvement; the library could house books from several publishers and writers for each subject, regardless of time of publishing, in order to increase the diversity of knowledge. Not only should increase the volumes of its book but its own volume so that students find ample space and a quiet and comforting environment to study in. The libraries could be enhanced with computers aiding online learning and easier access to resources both available physically or otherwise. Students should be provided easy access to labs and sufficient space so that they may work cooperatively, enhancing both quality and speed of learning. They must be allowed recreational opportunities as well as extracurricular activities to develop impotent skills they may be interested in and to aid their focus while studying. GUB should also be flexible in providing funds for activities aiding students' development, such seminars as in career counseling, and frequent competitive events such as programming contests. Students should be encouraged, aided and well funded for projects they are interested in as well as external events beneficial to students.
