2. + Building Online Learning
Environments
Keep in mind:
Everyone learns in different ways –
even our students.
Using various forms of multimedia
can help reach students who learn
differently.
Students also respond well to
things they are familiar with – like
technology and multimedia.
There are many ways to incorporate online learning
environments in the classroom…
3. +
Creating an online CLASSROOM
I allows teachers to create an online or
“flipped” version of their classroom
and course content.
This online environment allows for discussion boards, posting
assignments and handouts, content linking,
and even assignment submission
and grading.
Pros: Free (up to 5 courses)
Customization
Online grading
Discussion boards
Cons: Creation learning curve
SLOW response times
on some networks
You can’t (easily) delete
a course
4. +
Online surveys
is a free and simple to use site
for creating online surveys in many formats.
Surveys can be a great way to introduce students to ideas and
content.
They can be used to assess student’s prior
knowledge or learning.
Surveys are a good source for discussion
starters.
Pros: Free
EASY to use
Link or embed surveys
Instant data collection
Cons: none!

Differentiated Tools
Everyone learns differently, so it’s important to use different
tools to meet student’s needs.
is a virtual bulletin board for your classroom.
This site allows you to post different types of content
online for your students to interact with.
Pros: Free
EASY to use
Link or embed
Cons: Could use some
more options/
effects

Other helpful tools:
Animoto: Allows you to create beautiful and interesting video
slideshows in minutes. The only drawback is the subscription
fee for videos over 30 seconds.
VoiceThread: Creating podcasts or using my own recorded
voice has always been intimidating to me. VoiceThread made it
very easy to create an interactive podcast. It also allows the
students to leave comments or ask questions, which is a great
feature.
Glogster: Similar to Lino, but with a more polished
presentation. These online bulletin boards offer more
customization and social networking. However, the free version
IS limited and you have to pay for the better features.

Success & Challenges
Created elements I will
USE in MY classroom!
Proud of my work!
Learned about NEW
resources!
Enjoyed the process!
Coursesites can be VERY
finicky…!
Having to hear my own
voice on VoiceThread (I
think it sounds ridiculous)
Using new resources can
be a learning experience
(i.e. frustrating!)

Getting started with Moodle was not easy – there is a
learning curve, especially if you have no prior experience
with online classes.
The tutorials helped a great deal!
There is definitely a need for online learning like Moodle.
However, I would not want to see all education replaced by
“tech teaching.” I’d be out of a job!
I enjoyed being able to see what others did before me or in
the same class.
