Spring: the season of Joy
By Rahat Sandhu
The spring is here and the sun is bright,
Everyone is playful they are not having anyone’s fright.
I could see the little birds swaying their wings,
I could hear the pretty flowers sing.
The green leaves that are dancing in the air,
Are fearless from everyone present here.
Tip! Tip! Tip! The water falls,
Sweep! Sweep! Sweep! The caterpillar crawls.
And when the playful squirrels run,
They seem that they are having so much fun.
As the small kids are swinging high,
Their rosy pink cheeks get shy.
Jumping, jumping come the rabbits,
I really praise their lovely habits.
As they play with their long ears,
Everyone forgets their cries and tears.
But lets wait for the butterflies,
Who keep on flying in the endless skies.
But now mam taps on the door,
And it's the time to go indoor.
I'm always eager for the spring to come,
Because it brings along so much fun.
Spring: the Season of Joy
By Rahat Sandhu
I like this poem because I love the season of
Spring. I thought it would be appropriate
because the weather is finally starting to get
nicer. I also liked this poem because it’s very
catchy. A specific feature that stood out in this
poem is the use of an onomatopoeia. In the
seventh line, the falling water makes a “tip”
sound according to the author. The use of the
onomatopoeia helps to enhance the description
in the poem.
The Wind
By Dee McDonald
The wind it moves in wondrous ways
Through the tree branches it blows and its sways
It takes all the leaves and flies them so high
Then briefly it lets go and they fall from the sky
Its strength is so varied from timid to strong
The length of the blowing can be short or long
Sometimes it tickles the tip of your nose
Sometimes sends shivers to the tips of your toes
It can bring some surprises with each passing day
The wind will surprise you in many a way
The sweet sound of whistling, the roar of a storm
It can bring you some happiness and also bring harm
The next time you see a bag blow down the street
The next time you feel the wind at you feet
Remember its power, its beauty and grace
For the wind can be anywhere, it can be any place.
The Wind
By Dee McDonald
I chose this poem because I liked the rhyme
scheme of it. It seems to flow very nicely
throughout the entire poem. A specific feature
that I found was personification. In the second
stanza it says, “sometimes [the wind] tickles
your nose”. This is personification because the
wind can’t literally tickle your nose. The use of
this personification helps to make the poem
more visual and relatable to the reader.
Summer
By Destinee
The grass so green,
The sun so bright,
Life seems a dream,
No worries in sight
Tans and tank tops,
Laughter and bliss,
Each moment passes,
Without even a miss
Friends and cookouts,
Memories and laughs,
Good times to remember,
But how long will it last
The grass soon fades,
Leaves begin to fall,
School replaces sleepovers,
Oh I'll miss it all
Summer
By Destinee
I chose this poem because it’s about my favorite
season, summer. All of the things that the
author talks about is ideal to how I spend my
summer. Also, the activities described in the
poem can be very relatable to whoever is
interpreting the poem. A specific feature that I
found was rhyme scheme. In this poem, the last
word of the second line will rhyme with the last
word of the fourth line. This pattern occurs in
every stanza.
Nature’s Way
By Heidi Campbell
Upon a nice mid-spring day,
Let's take a look at Nature's way,
Breathe the scent of nice fresh air,
Feel the breeze within your hair.
The grass will poke between your toes,
Smell the flowers with your nose,
Clouds form shapes within the skies,
And light will glisten from your eyes.
Hear the buzzing of the bees,
Climb the tallest willow trees,
Look across the meadow way,
And you shall see a young deer play.
Pick the daisies as they grow,
Watch a gentle cold stream flow,
Know the sounds of water splash,
Catch its glimmer in a flash.
When altogether all seems sound,
Lay yourself upon the ground,
Take a moment to inhale,
And listen to Nature tell her tale...
Nature’s Way
By Heidi Campbell
I chose this poem because it’s a cute little poem
about the outdoors. This poem has two
features: rhyme scheme and personification.
The last word of the first and second lines
rhymes, then the last word of the third and
fourth lines rhymes, and so on. The last line of
the poem shows personification. It says, “And
listen to nature tell her tale”. This is
personification because we know that nature
can’t really talk.
The Sun
By Mary Oliver
Have you ever seen
anything in your life
more wonderful
than the way the sun,
every evening, relaxed
and easy, floats toward
the horizon
and into the clouds or the
hills, or the rumpled sea,
and is gone– and how it
slides again
out of the blackness, every
morning, on the other side of
the world, like a red flower
streaming upward on its heavenly
oils, say, on a morning in early
summer, at its perfect imperial
distance– and have you ever felt
for anything such wild love– do
you think there is anywhere, in
any language, a word billowing
enough for the pleasure
that fills you, as
the sun reaches
out, as it warms
you
as you stand
there, empty-
handed– or
have you too
turned from
this world–
or have you too
gone crazy for
power, for
things?
The Sun
By Mary Oliver
I chose this poem because of the ability for the
author to make you picture the beautiful scene
of a sunset. This poem has imagery as it’s
feature. There are many adjectives to describe
the sun in order to provide imagery. Also, the
author does a great job of describing the
horizon in which the sun floats toward. This
poem brings a clear image of the sunset to my
head whenever I read it.
The beach
By Cassidy Stussy
The cool breeze is blowing and the sand in your toes,
How can life get any better.
Lounging in the beach chair, trying to get the perfect tan.
The palm tree leaves getting swayed in the gentle breeze;
They make a relaxing sound.
The tide is coming in and making a loud splash on the sand.
The water gets closer and nips the end of your toes with
A warm kiss.
Take a walk along the beach and let the sand
Sink between your toes sending a shiver
Up your spine.
Go to the waters edge and look down at the clarity of the water.
The water gets close and nips your toes again, beckoning you
To come in.
Step into the water and feel the warmth like a hot bath.
The cool breeze is blowing and the sand in your toes,
How can life get any better.
The beach
By Cassidy Stussy
I chose this poem because it’s about the beach.
My favorite place to visit or go on vacation is at
the beach. It describes every aspect that I love
about going there. A specific feature found in
this poem is a simile. “Step into the water and
feel the warmth like a hot bath.” In this simile,
the water is being described as a hot bath.
The Meadow
By Robert Edgar Burns
In the meadow of the valley, Where
wild flowers are roaming free. There
are multitudes of colors And their
backdrop forest greens.
There I sit and watch reflections Of
the clouds above the lake.
And the creatures drinking from it,
A deer, a swan, a snake.
To accentuate this beauty,
Are the mountains far away.
That rise above the woodlands,
“Look up” they seem to say.
While climbing one great mountain,
I see the meadow that’s below.
Looking even now more lovely,
Than when I was below.
So when you’re in a valley, Looking
up, you’ll want to climb.
But you’ll see that this new vision Is
no more lovely than what’s behind.
Let’s plan while on our front
porch As we both sip lemonade, To
go exploring in open meadows, And
leave behind this cooling shade!
Won’t you join me in my meadow?
Let’s delight in all we see.
And frolic in the sunshine, As our
love grows by degrees!
The Meadow
By Robert Edgar Burns
I chose this poem because it’s very calm and
relaxing. It’s a peaceful poem that provides a
little bit of imagery. That’s the feature I chose to
talk about for this poem. The author talks about
the many colors of the wild flowers and
watching the reflections of clouds within a lake.
Describing these two things could make anyone
picture the scene in their mind as they’re
reading this poem.
The Sky
By Chelsea Poshni
Have you seen the Sunset and Sunrise
And the Horizon that's a prize
How the colors mix and melt
And look as soft as felt
How they float away into black
As you wish them back
And that feeling that makes you sad
How the tears come and just make you mad
But then you see the stars
That are so small they could fit in jars
Now there's so many
You'd by each one with a penny
How they shine so bright
And don't put up a fight
So you stand watching them twinkle and shine
Then you realize you feel fine
So you sigh
And say goodbye.
The Sky
By Chelsea Poshni
I chose this poem because it’s another poem
about the sky. Along with the other one, this
poem paints a mental picture in my head as
well. The feature I found in this poem is
alliteration. In the third line, the author says,
“How the colors mix and melt”. In this line, the
words ‘mix’ and ‘melt’ are used right beside
each other and they have the same beginning
sound. Therefore, this is an alliteration.
My Creek
By Judith Pleasant
I have never seen such a lovely sight As the creek that
is flowing with speedy delight.
When I look out my window and down below,
The glistening beauty of it is all a glow.
It flows over the rocks and makes pretty white peaks.
The awesome beauty I always will seek.
As it rolls with rapid grace all the way down.
The rustling water makes a wonderful sound.
It comes down out of the mountains From a spring I
suppose,
As the water flows by, its beauty does grow.
This beautiful memory I held over the years, Was
something from my childhood
That I hold very dear.
It is only a memory now in my mind, Because I went
back to see it one more time.
To my shock and much unease, They had let my creek
stop flowing, And be overgrown with weeds and
trees.
When I saw the sight I almost cried,
Because when I was young
I looked at my creek with love of nature
And with much pride.
I still can’t believe,
They would let it disappear.
So I can no longer see it, or no longer hear.
It breaks my heart to know, People who care so little
about letting Such beautiful things of nature
No longer be here
My Creek
By Judith Pleasant
I chose this poem because it’s related to my
childhood along with the author’s. It describes a
beautiful, flowing creek that the author use to
play in and visit as a child. The specific feature I
found in this poem is free verse. The poem is
broken up into seven stanzas, but the number of
lines in each stanza is inconsistent. Also, there is
rhyme in the poem, but it’s inconsistent as well.
A Blessing for the Woods
By Michael S. Glaser
Before I leave, almost without noticing
Before I cross the road and head toward
What I have intentionally postponed—
Let me stop to say a blessing for these woods:
For crows barking and squirrels scampering,
For trees and fungus and multi-colored leaves,
For the way sunlight laces with shadows
Through each branch and leaf of tree,
For these paths that take me in,
For these paths that lead me out
A Blessing for the Woods
By Michael S. Glaser
I chose this poem because I love exploring in the
woods. When I read this poem, I could picture the
woods I use to play in by my old house from my
childhood. The poem is very descriptive, and that’s
what I like about it. A specific feature I found in this
poem was alliteration. In the fifth line it says, “For
crows barking and squirrels scampering”. The part
that says squirrels scampering is the alliteration
used. The use of this alliteration adds to the
descriptiveness of the poem and gives the reader a
clean visual as well.

Lifeless, boring
Writing, typing, thinking

School
Autumn Leaves
The bright, autumn leaves
Fall slowly towards the dark ground
Lighting up the dim path
Sunlight
The gleaming sunlight
Brings warmth throughout my body
Brightening my skin,
Illuminating the world,
And spreading joy everywhere
The Five Senses
Happiness is the color of yellow
It tastes like a warm slice of apple pie
It sounds like the joyful cries coming from a
playground
It smells like fresh cut grass
It looks like a beautiful scene on a beach
And it makes you feel like you are invincible
I Believe…
I believe in the pursuit of happiness
The influence of others
The drive to be successful
The struggle of independency
The power of dedication
But I don’t believe that life should be taken for granted
I believe that only you can shape your future
I believe in respect for elders
I believe that hard work pays off
And I believe that you should treat others the way that you want to be
treated

Poetry project

  • 1. Nature Poems By: Jordan Swackhamer Period 2 5-22-14 Mrs. Love
  • 2. Spring: the season of Joy By Rahat Sandhu The spring is here and the sun is bright, Everyone is playful they are not having anyone’s fright. I could see the little birds swaying their wings, I could hear the pretty flowers sing. The green leaves that are dancing in the air, Are fearless from everyone present here. Tip! Tip! Tip! The water falls, Sweep! Sweep! Sweep! The caterpillar crawls. And when the playful squirrels run, They seem that they are having so much fun. As the small kids are swinging high, Their rosy pink cheeks get shy. Jumping, jumping come the rabbits, I really praise their lovely habits. As they play with their long ears, Everyone forgets their cries and tears. But lets wait for the butterflies, Who keep on flying in the endless skies. But now mam taps on the door, And it's the time to go indoor. I'm always eager for the spring to come, Because it brings along so much fun.
  • 3. Spring: the Season of Joy By Rahat Sandhu I like this poem because I love the season of Spring. I thought it would be appropriate because the weather is finally starting to get nicer. I also liked this poem because it’s very catchy. A specific feature that stood out in this poem is the use of an onomatopoeia. In the seventh line, the falling water makes a “tip” sound according to the author. The use of the onomatopoeia helps to enhance the description in the poem.
  • 4. The Wind By Dee McDonald The wind it moves in wondrous ways Through the tree branches it blows and its sways It takes all the leaves and flies them so high Then briefly it lets go and they fall from the sky Its strength is so varied from timid to strong The length of the blowing can be short or long Sometimes it tickles the tip of your nose Sometimes sends shivers to the tips of your toes It can bring some surprises with each passing day The wind will surprise you in many a way The sweet sound of whistling, the roar of a storm It can bring you some happiness and also bring harm The next time you see a bag blow down the street The next time you feel the wind at you feet Remember its power, its beauty and grace For the wind can be anywhere, it can be any place.
  • 5. The Wind By Dee McDonald I chose this poem because I liked the rhyme scheme of it. It seems to flow very nicely throughout the entire poem. A specific feature that I found was personification. In the second stanza it says, “sometimes [the wind] tickles your nose”. This is personification because the wind can’t literally tickle your nose. The use of this personification helps to make the poem more visual and relatable to the reader.
  • 6. Summer By Destinee The grass so green, The sun so bright, Life seems a dream, No worries in sight Tans and tank tops, Laughter and bliss, Each moment passes, Without even a miss Friends and cookouts, Memories and laughs, Good times to remember, But how long will it last The grass soon fades, Leaves begin to fall, School replaces sleepovers, Oh I'll miss it all
  • 7. Summer By Destinee I chose this poem because it’s about my favorite season, summer. All of the things that the author talks about is ideal to how I spend my summer. Also, the activities described in the poem can be very relatable to whoever is interpreting the poem. A specific feature that I found was rhyme scheme. In this poem, the last word of the second line will rhyme with the last word of the fourth line. This pattern occurs in every stanza.
  • 8. Nature’s Way By Heidi Campbell Upon a nice mid-spring day, Let's take a look at Nature's way, Breathe the scent of nice fresh air, Feel the breeze within your hair. The grass will poke between your toes, Smell the flowers with your nose, Clouds form shapes within the skies, And light will glisten from your eyes. Hear the buzzing of the bees, Climb the tallest willow trees, Look across the meadow way, And you shall see a young deer play. Pick the daisies as they grow, Watch a gentle cold stream flow, Know the sounds of water splash, Catch its glimmer in a flash. When altogether all seems sound, Lay yourself upon the ground, Take a moment to inhale, And listen to Nature tell her tale...
  • 9. Nature’s Way By Heidi Campbell I chose this poem because it’s a cute little poem about the outdoors. This poem has two features: rhyme scheme and personification. The last word of the first and second lines rhymes, then the last word of the third and fourth lines rhymes, and so on. The last line of the poem shows personification. It says, “And listen to nature tell her tale”. This is personification because we know that nature can’t really talk.
  • 10. The Sun By Mary Oliver Have you ever seen anything in your life more wonderful than the way the sun, every evening, relaxed and easy, floats toward the horizon and into the clouds or the hills, or the rumpled sea, and is gone– and how it slides again out of the blackness, every morning, on the other side of the world, like a red flower streaming upward on its heavenly oils, say, on a morning in early summer, at its perfect imperial distance– and have you ever felt for anything such wild love– do you think there is anywhere, in any language, a word billowing enough for the pleasure that fills you, as the sun reaches out, as it warms you as you stand there, empty- handed– or have you too turned from this world– or have you too gone crazy for power, for things?
  • 11. The Sun By Mary Oliver I chose this poem because of the ability for the author to make you picture the beautiful scene of a sunset. This poem has imagery as it’s feature. There are many adjectives to describe the sun in order to provide imagery. Also, the author does a great job of describing the horizon in which the sun floats toward. This poem brings a clear image of the sunset to my head whenever I read it.
  • 12. The beach By Cassidy Stussy The cool breeze is blowing and the sand in your toes, How can life get any better. Lounging in the beach chair, trying to get the perfect tan. The palm tree leaves getting swayed in the gentle breeze; They make a relaxing sound. The tide is coming in and making a loud splash on the sand. The water gets closer and nips the end of your toes with A warm kiss. Take a walk along the beach and let the sand Sink between your toes sending a shiver Up your spine. Go to the waters edge and look down at the clarity of the water. The water gets close and nips your toes again, beckoning you To come in. Step into the water and feel the warmth like a hot bath. The cool breeze is blowing and the sand in your toes, How can life get any better.
  • 13. The beach By Cassidy Stussy I chose this poem because it’s about the beach. My favorite place to visit or go on vacation is at the beach. It describes every aspect that I love about going there. A specific feature found in this poem is a simile. “Step into the water and feel the warmth like a hot bath.” In this simile, the water is being described as a hot bath.
  • 14. The Meadow By Robert Edgar Burns In the meadow of the valley, Where wild flowers are roaming free. There are multitudes of colors And their backdrop forest greens. There I sit and watch reflections Of the clouds above the lake. And the creatures drinking from it, A deer, a swan, a snake. To accentuate this beauty, Are the mountains far away. That rise above the woodlands, “Look up” they seem to say. While climbing one great mountain, I see the meadow that’s below. Looking even now more lovely, Than when I was below. So when you’re in a valley, Looking up, you’ll want to climb. But you’ll see that this new vision Is no more lovely than what’s behind. Let’s plan while on our front porch As we both sip lemonade, To go exploring in open meadows, And leave behind this cooling shade! Won’t you join me in my meadow? Let’s delight in all we see. And frolic in the sunshine, As our love grows by degrees!
  • 15. The Meadow By Robert Edgar Burns I chose this poem because it’s very calm and relaxing. It’s a peaceful poem that provides a little bit of imagery. That’s the feature I chose to talk about for this poem. The author talks about the many colors of the wild flowers and watching the reflections of clouds within a lake. Describing these two things could make anyone picture the scene in their mind as they’re reading this poem.
  • 16. The Sky By Chelsea Poshni Have you seen the Sunset and Sunrise And the Horizon that's a prize How the colors mix and melt And look as soft as felt How they float away into black As you wish them back And that feeling that makes you sad How the tears come and just make you mad But then you see the stars That are so small they could fit in jars Now there's so many You'd by each one with a penny How they shine so bright And don't put up a fight So you stand watching them twinkle and shine Then you realize you feel fine So you sigh And say goodbye.
  • 17. The Sky By Chelsea Poshni I chose this poem because it’s another poem about the sky. Along with the other one, this poem paints a mental picture in my head as well. The feature I found in this poem is alliteration. In the third line, the author says, “How the colors mix and melt”. In this line, the words ‘mix’ and ‘melt’ are used right beside each other and they have the same beginning sound. Therefore, this is an alliteration.
  • 18. My Creek By Judith Pleasant I have never seen such a lovely sight As the creek that is flowing with speedy delight. When I look out my window and down below, The glistening beauty of it is all a glow. It flows over the rocks and makes pretty white peaks. The awesome beauty I always will seek. As it rolls with rapid grace all the way down. The rustling water makes a wonderful sound. It comes down out of the mountains From a spring I suppose, As the water flows by, its beauty does grow. This beautiful memory I held over the years, Was something from my childhood That I hold very dear. It is only a memory now in my mind, Because I went back to see it one more time. To my shock and much unease, They had let my creek stop flowing, And be overgrown with weeds and trees. When I saw the sight I almost cried, Because when I was young I looked at my creek with love of nature And with much pride. I still can’t believe, They would let it disappear. So I can no longer see it, or no longer hear. It breaks my heart to know, People who care so little about letting Such beautiful things of nature No longer be here
  • 19. My Creek By Judith Pleasant I chose this poem because it’s related to my childhood along with the author’s. It describes a beautiful, flowing creek that the author use to play in and visit as a child. The specific feature I found in this poem is free verse. The poem is broken up into seven stanzas, but the number of lines in each stanza is inconsistent. Also, there is rhyme in the poem, but it’s inconsistent as well.
  • 20. A Blessing for the Woods By Michael S. Glaser Before I leave, almost without noticing Before I cross the road and head toward What I have intentionally postponed— Let me stop to say a blessing for these woods: For crows barking and squirrels scampering, For trees and fungus and multi-colored leaves, For the way sunlight laces with shadows Through each branch and leaf of tree, For these paths that take me in, For these paths that lead me out
  • 21. A Blessing for the Woods By Michael S. Glaser I chose this poem because I love exploring in the woods. When I read this poem, I could picture the woods I use to play in by my old house from my childhood. The poem is very descriptive, and that’s what I like about it. A specific feature I found in this poem was alliteration. In the fifth line it says, “For crows barking and squirrels scampering”. The part that says squirrels scampering is the alliteration used. The use of this alliteration adds to the descriptiveness of the poem and gives the reader a clean visual as well.
  • 22. School School Lifeless, boring Writing, typing, thinking I would much rather be sleeping School
  • 23. Autumn Leaves The bright, autumn leaves Fall slowly towards the dark ground Lighting up the dim path
  • 24. Sunlight The gleaming sunlight Brings warmth throughout my body Brightening my skin, Illuminating the world, And spreading joy everywhere
  • 25. The Five Senses Happiness is the color of yellow It tastes like a warm slice of apple pie It sounds like the joyful cries coming from a playground It smells like fresh cut grass It looks like a beautiful scene on a beach And it makes you feel like you are invincible
  • 26. I Believe… I believe in the pursuit of happiness The influence of others The drive to be successful The struggle of independency The power of dedication But I don’t believe that life should be taken for granted I believe that only you can shape your future I believe in respect for elders I believe that hard work pays off And I believe that you should treat others the way that you want to be treated
