Complimenting all of the fantastic music, Treasure Island is known for tons of other
fun activities, and this year was certainly no exception. The spectacular 60-foot
Century Ferris Wheel was surrounded by an ever-changing eclectic mix of interac-
tive installations and roaming performers. Below are just a few of the diverse offer-
ings offered in 2013:
CAMP D.I.Y.
Camp D.I.Y. is part grown-up summer camp, part arts & crafts lounges. Workshop
SF brought dozens of San Francisco’s finest creatives to demonstrate how to get in-
spired and make stuff like dream catchers, friendship bracelets, wood cut wearable
art, screen printing, flower crowns, nail art, letterpress, hand-sewn beer koozies,
patches and much, much more. To round out the summer camp experience, Alite
hosted field day racing and games all weekend. Kelly Malone, Antlre Creative and
over a dozen woodworkers and artists transformed the space into a camp wonder-
land, thank to generous materials donations by Building Resources.
ATTRACTIONS AND ROAMING PERFORMERS
Throughout the day, giant Bubbles added a dreamy ambiance to Marco Cochrane’s
breathtaking Bliss Dance structure, while a variety of unique installations added
a surprise around every corner including Knit Bombing, Lillies Gigantium, and the
Shelter.Co Lounge where you could truly get a glamping experience. At night, the
sculptures illuminated: Sugar Cubes lit up the Silent Disco, the Flaming Lotus Girls’
Merope created a warm and fiery centerpiece in the Cove, Jelly Blooms danced
through audience and the Balloon Chains arched in the wind over the whole fest.
TREASURE CHEST
Additionally, a variety of mobile entertainers like Electric Chaircuts, stilters, mon-
sters, hula hoopers—even flash Robot Dance Parties roamed the grounds mingling
with all the lively attendees.
SILENT DISCO
A Treasure Island Music Festival staple, the Silent Disco rocked the Cove with the
latest dance beats broadcast directly to 200 sets of headphones! Live DJs curated
by Silent Frisco turned the tables all day and night exclusively to the masses danc-
ing on the floor.
THE PORCH STAGE
The Porch Stage returned again to add to the entertainment in the Cove, with three
incredibly fun acts, playing from 3pm onward each day. On Saturday, the crowd
enjoyed Top 40 covers and requests from Diamond Dave. And Sunday, The Purple
Ones payed homage to one of the most well known legends, Prince! Also Sunday
morning, The Jerk Church Tabernacle Choir took the stage to break bread, share a
cup and a song.
(TRANSPORT)ATION GALLERIES AND OTHER ATTRACTIONS
The (Transport)ation Galleries gave a chance for attendees to explore four walls
of eclectic and quirky wonder. From grabbing a homemade cookie at Grahama’s
House to painting your treasure on the Artismobilus community mural, the box
trucked provided an interactive twist for all the enjoy.

Hosting a festival at such a majestic site reminds us all of the importance of
minimizing our carbon footprint. This year marked a seventh successful greening
program, diverting up to 3/4 of our entire festival waste to recycling and compost.
REDUCING EMISSIONS
Stage generators were fueled with B20, a mix of 20% biodiesel, 80% diesel, which
reduced emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. Valet Bike Parking ser-
vices were provided at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where bikes could be securely
parked and riders could take the zero-emission shuttle buses straight to the island.
REDUCING WASTE
TIMF once again embraced the resourceful Refillable Water Program, which cut
down plastic bottle consumption. There were two different refillable spring water
options—fans could purchase a TIMF branded stainless steel water bottle and
receive free refills of spring water all weekend, or bring a water bottle from home
and purchase refills for $1. Clean Vibes supplied reclamation stations with clearly
marked compost, recycling, and trash bins throughout the festival grounds. Togeth-
er the greening programs were able to divert 3/4 of all waste for the entire week-
end! The TRASHed Recycled Store brought by Global Inheritance was also in atten-
dance to provide Treasure Islanders with a lesson in environmental activism. Over
450 attendees recycled over 50 bags and 12,500 bottles, cans, and biodegradable
cups. Also, the festival exclusively used biodegradable cups, plates and utensils for
all food and beverage sold, further reducing the amount of landfill trash.

“If we were to ever find ourselves stranded on a desert island with just one music
event, it would almost certainly be the Treasure Island Music Festival.”—SF GATE

no other festival experience in the U.S.”—KQED
“I know we say this every year, but the curatorial wizards behind the Treasure Island
Music Festival really outdid themselves this year.”—7X7
“The types of music represented are diverse enough that there’s something for every-
one, and the view of the San Francisco skyline from the island is absolutely gorgeous,
day or night.”—SFCRITIC
“Treasure Island Music Festival is more than just music, it’s an experience. The festival
is so well produced that it wouldn’t be difficult to have a good time having never heard
of any of the bands playing. The seventh incarnation of the two-day festival wrapped
up yesterday, and it was another beaming success.”—CITY SOUND
“It didn’t seem possible that San Francisco could be any cooler musically than it al-
ready was, but Noise Pop and Another Planet clearly raised the bar.”—JAMBASE
“Hard to believe our favorite festival is already seven years old. They grow up so
fast!Treasure Island hasn’t changed a bit, and this is great. Sure there’s more people
going and the lineups are bigger and better, but all in all, TI remains consistently
excellent and unique.”—THE OWL MAG
