job. Also they can tell us whether the film is set in the present and what society or
culture the film is based around.
Facial expressions and body language
They are clear indicators of how people are feeling. Also how characters are feeling
towards each other.
Lighting and colour
Colour carries connotations which can highlight the meaning of scenes. It can give
set the mood of a scene and can also create suspense and fear. Also can highlight
importance of characters or objects within a frame.
Setting and props
Setting has a vital role in any film. It can manipulate the audience by building
expectation and then going against it. Sets are either built or found after lots of
research.
Positioning of characters/objects within the frame
Positions can draw the audiences attention to an object or person. Film makers can
use it to indicate relationships between people.
