Exercises
Task: Digital texts for an ESL classroom
As explained in the unit, digital texts are very useful as a first step before performing
material with more complex ICT tools.
The main aim of this task is to enhance your creativity and imagination when
creating digital texts. Besides, this task is also aimed at showing your ability to share
your materials by means of the sites seen in the unit.
This task consists of two parts:
1. You will have to create two digital texts, one as a word document (for example,
using Word from Microsoft Office) and another with slides (for example, using Power
Point from Microsoft Office).
You will have to design two different activities in both digital texts. However, in
these activities you will have to use certain applications offered by the software chosen
(for example, inserting images, links, sounds, colours, or creating tables, shapes, among
others… it depends on your creativity and imagination!).
In this template you will have to indicate only the summary of the activity. As a
suggestion to present this task, you can create a table to organize this information:
• Name of activity.
• Age of children and level.
• Skills of English they’re going to practice (reading, writing, listening, speaking or
use of English).
• Software used: Word, PowerPoint, OpenOffice, Prezi, etc.
• Short description of the activity and how you’re going to carry it out in class.

2. The two digital texts (word document and the slides) must be shared by using the
sites for sharing materials we have seen in the unit (GoogleDrive, Slideshare,
Dropbox, etc.). Please copy and paste the links provided by the site in the following
table:
IMPORTANT! Remember that the activities created using the software must be
shared ONLY using the sites provided in the unit. The activities will NOT be copied in
this template. This template will be only used for showing information about the
activities created (in a summary table with suitable information related to the
activities). You must also take into account that some of the sites provide some options
of restriction. Please avoid private option so that your digital texts can be seen and,
therefore, evaluated without problems.
The evaluation of the task will be as it follows:
• Creation of an activity in a word document: 3 points
o Activity designed with the tools available in the software: 2 points
o Correct explanation of the activity in a summary table: 1 point
• Creation of an activity using slides: 3 points
o Activity designed with the tools available in the software: 2 points
o Correct explanation of the activity in a summary table: 1 point
• Correct links when sharing the activities: 4 points
o Correct link 1: 2 points
o Correct link 2: 2 points
• Grammar, spelling and sense mistakes will be penalized (-0.05 per
grammar/spelling mistake; -0.1 per sense mistake).

Short description
Student motivation is the engine that drives the action,
therefore, the main purpose of this exercise is to design
activities to reinforce the positive attitude of students towards
the English language with ICT tools. The two activities consist of
various teaching/learning objectives. The Word Document
activity is useful for writing skills and the PowerPoint activity is
most suitable for the development of reading, listening and
speaking practice.
