Argumentative Essay On Gay Marriage
The fight for the legalization of gay marriage is not a new one. Tracing back to the 1960s, one of
the first instances of protest was in New York City. Police had been raiding gay bars often, but one
day the gay and lesbian people began to fight back. This caused many riots and protest throughout the
country. On June 26th, 2015, in a 5 to 4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that same–sex marriage is
now legal in all 50 states. However, even today, same–sex marriage is not fully accepted and
supported. While some argue that gay marriage is wrong, there is good reason as to why it should
be legal. Marriage is a right that benefits society protected by the U.S. constitution and the
acceptance and legalization of same–sex marriage decreases the suicide rates among people.
Many people argue that gay marriage is morally wrong and unnatural because of religious beliefs.
The Bible states that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. In the chapter of
Leviticus, God says that same–sex marriage is an abomination, a hateful sin and those who commit
this sin will be punished for it. Firstly, the argument made here is strictly limited religion while
legalizing gay marriage is more of a governmental concern. The constitution has already addressed
this issue by separating church and state in order to make laws fair and impartial to religion. To
add on, not everyone in the U.S practices Christianity, so arguing that it is morally wrong because
of one religion is unfair to those who believe otherwise. Furthermore, if everyone were to be
Christian and followed every single rule in the Bible, our lives would all look very different.
Finally, if we are still following scripture, we see in the book of John that God commands us to
love one another as God loves us. As a result, those who argue against gay marriage may not have
considered all the aspects of the Bible.
Marriage is a right that is clearly stated in the Constitution of the United States. More specifically in
the 14 Amendment, it states that "no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property
without due process of law". For marriage equality, this means that a citizen of the United States will
not be denied the right to marry someone of the same

Argument Against Gay Marriage
John and Massey have been a couple since college. As growing up into being a couple things got
serious between them they was starting to fall for each other more to a higher expectation stage.
John and Massey started going out on dates every weekend, buying each other things and started
living together having their own space to become close as lovers and not friends. As days arriving
by John decided to propose to Massey even though he felt weird about it because they was gay.
John and Massey have been thinking about getting married but as living in America today they
realize some can be against gay marriage. John and Massey is kinda down about this situation
because they fell they should become committed to each other more. People in America...show more

Our nation was only made for straight marriage if gay marriage was to happen it will be a lot of
divorces between couples some might change their mind and some might feel that their doing the
wrong thing . Marriage was to help develop things and make things stronger between the pairs gay
marriage wouldn't make anything successful plus it's against the law . This world was made for
straight marriage to come among children and big housing and many things gay marriage is
entitled. Gay couples would be very confused and did wrong at the step of getting married . There
are only a couple who support gay marriage their actual wedding wouldn't be the same filled with
friends and family because of the Grace of god people believe in . People may also think it's
defending the God because he only came up with straight marriage to grow stronger with their
lives being gay is just a choice and a relationship typical thing that doesn't need to be engaged . Gay
couples should be able to keep just a bond instead of moving on to things that can't be developed
because its defending our nature

Gay Marriage Inequality
Homosexuality is the state of being attracted to people of the same gender. The gay community is
often referred to by an acronym– LGBTQ. This represents the different identities within
homosexuality. The "L" stands for lesbian, the "G" stands for gay, the "B" stands for bisexual, the
"T" stands for transgender, and the "Q" stands for queer. There has been much debate about many
different issues surrounding homosexuality. The issue that has garnered the most attention from the
media and the general public is same–sex marriage. The debate around same–sex marriage is on an
international scale. In many places, it is illegal to marry someone of the same gender, or even have
a same–sex relationship. In this paper, I will be taking the position that...show more content...
It is a violation of two different human rights documents, the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights, and the International Covenant of Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights. Marriage
inequality specifically violates section 10 of the ICSECR and Article 16 of the UDHR, which both
guarantee having the ability to marry and start a family without discrimination. Marriage inequality
comes from homophobia, which is a fear of homosexuality that is a result of strict gender roles and
religious doctrine. Not allowing same–sex marriage is a breach of the social rights all humans have.
It is a serious injustice, and while it is slowly being fixed, there is still a lot of work that needs to
be done. The LGBTQ community deserves equal marriage rights because they are all humans who
should be able to love and commit like anyone

ROGERIAN ARGUMENT (SAME SEX MARRIAGES)
Introduction/background
On April 1, 2001, Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same sex marriages.
This trend has gained a lot of momentum with lot of nations in Europe and USA joining the trend
(Riggle 231). This issue of same sex marriage has attracted both love and condemnation though
those who are opposed to it much far outweigh the proponents. What is exciting is the fact that both
sides of the divide have their own reasons most of which are valid. Africa and most of the Muslim
nations are the only places which are still reluctant to embrace same sex marriages and their reasons
are based on cultural and religious grounds. The proponents of this practice base their arguments on
equality and freedom of choice. On the other hand, the opponents of same sex marriages anchor their
arguments on points such as all rights have limits and it undermines religion.
Arguments for same sex marriages
The first point put forward by those who support same sex marriages is the element of equality. By
this, they mean that there is no difference between man and woman and that the duo is equal (Jowett
75). This is line with the current legislation that has swept across all nations confirming the fact that
both men and women are equal. They hold that the world is currently a civilized society that should
not discriminate people based on religion, race, sexuality and denial of the

My Argument Against Gay Rights
In this argumentative essay I will explain why I'm against gay rights. I'm going to explain the
severe problems that could increase because of the pronouncement of gay rights. My first issue
will be the psychological experiences that our society is facing or may raised in the future. The
second complication is the health challenges we face because of gay rights. In both issues I will
give the pros and cons so you could acknowledge the misfortunes of this law is causing.
In the following I will explain the psychological experiences that we face because of gay rights.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control they say that there is 1.3 million kids or 8% that are

Reasons Against Same Sex Marriage

Mr. Fish
Philosophy 110
November 19, 2017 Reasons Why Same Sex–Marriage Should Not Be Legalized Historically,
traditional marriage was always recognized union between a man and a woman, and same–sex
marriage was completely considered illegal. However, in the recent years, the hot topic of same–sex
marriage has become a big concern of all countries in the world. Many people believe that
homosexual marriage is seemed to be unnatural and should not be allowed, while others think it
should be. The Supreme Court of the United States commanded Constitution guarantees a right to
homosexual couples, but is this a good thing? I totally disagree with legalizing same–sex marriage
for some reasons, such as its religious immorality, negative effects on children, validating and
promoting homosexual lifestyles, and imposing its acceptance on the society. First, gay marriage
should not be allowed because of its religious immorality. Same–sex marriage is considered as
unacceptable to almost every religion in the world. Marriage is established by God in Paradise
for our first parents, Adam and Eve. Our Savior Jesus Christ taught: "From the beginning of the
creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother;
and shall cleave to his wife." (Mark). Also, Genesis wrote, "God blessed them, saying: 'Be fertile
and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.'" ("10 Reasons Why Homosexual "Marriage" is Harmful
and Must be Opposed"). Homosexuals

Argument Against Homosexual Marriage
Running Head: Homosexuals Marriage Homosexuals Marriage Homosexuals Marriage
INTRODUCTION: In today's world, the problem of same sex marriage is increasing day by day.
Although there are certain laws about the homosexuals in the western society but still many
people do not see it with dignity because of their own ethical perceptions. As far as their legal
marriage is concerned, it is very not a civilized action under any circumstances. Anything against
natural phenomenon is hazardous physically and mentally. Giving them lawful support can be a
hazard for the upcoming generations and a hindrance in conceiving babies to continue a family
chain. The society and government should not allow homosexuals' marriage as it is an unnatural
process and ethically unsound causing damage to the family life. MAIN BODY: Heterosexual
marriage brings together a man and a woman to live with love, satisfy their needs and continue
their family life by having children. Heterosexual marriages not only require emotional attraction
but it also satisfy the natural needs that a person cannot get in the same sex marriage (Rimmerman
& Wilcox, 2007). To be in favor of heterosexual marriage is not a medieval opinion. Heterosexual
marriage is just like a key–lock relationship. A key is made for the lock, what if the key insist to
remain with another key, or a lock insists to be with a lock. Similarly, homosexuals are like a
key–to–key or lock to lock relationship that can give nothing but just and

Rhetorical Precis Austin Reynolds, in his term paper, " k," proves with strong assertations that
there is evidence to support the legalization of homosexual marriage, though many would argue
that it will harm the sanctity of marriage and harm the right to freedom of religion. Reynolds
supports his ideas by expounding upon the inequality that LGBT people are given and how gay
marriage will bring harm to no man, women, or child. The author's purpose is to inform the reader
on all aspects of gay marriage so they understand the controversial reasoning behind the idea as
well as the arguments against the proposal. Reynolds writes in a formal tone for the American

where you can't ever be married to the person you love. Thats it. No matter what you do you
cannot marry them because of a religious group. Imagine someone tells you that you can't eat a
donut because they are on a diet. Now lets come back to reality and discover that the imagining
you just did is a person's everyday life. Realize that they wake up everyday to ignorant people
bestowing their beliefs upon other people and attempting to give them less rights. What other
piece of American history does this parallel? This parallels the Civil Rights movement in the
1950's. Stores and restaurants were refusing service to black people because of the way they came

Summary Of A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage
Marriage: Golden Seal of Approval or Plain Ole' Bamboozle?
In "A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage" by Michael Bronski– a gay rights activist and
professor of gay and lesbian studies at Dartmouth – Bronski argues that homosexuals are too focused
on the legalization of gay marriage. He begins this article with his involvement and knowledge of
gay rights and history. Then, he discusses the fact thatmarriage itself is problematic regardless of
sexual orientation and that the gay community has developed healthier relationships without the
need for marriage. Although, he is in complete support of the gay community to get this right and
get the benefits that come along with it; He disagrees that it's a necessity and the biggest problem
facing lesbians and gays. In this article Bronski does fail to mention the 50% of marriages that
prosper, abuse and adultery that occurs outside of marriage. He also doesn't mention how the civil
benefits affect marriages negatively or positively. Ensuring tax breaks, loans and inheritance
arrangements for unwedded people can be very problematic. Although, he makes valid point on how
the civil benefits should be available to all. He doesn't go into depth about how problematic this
could be. Bronski doesn't go into how the same things can happen outside of marriage.
Bronski focuses on the negative sides of marriage, while most of America was raised and were
taught marriage is the goal. It has been enculturated into us. Divorces rates could be

Why Gay Marriage Should Be Illegal
This paper will be fighting against gay marriage, and explaining why it is wrong. Why is it gay
marriage shouldn't be allowed in the U.S or any other country it is legal in? There are many
reasons why gay marriage should be illegal. Gay marriage should have never been made legal in
the U.S. Gay marriage should be illegal because it's unnatural, it's against some religions, and it
can affect other people. First gay marriage should be illegal cause of the fact it's unnatural. How
is gay marriage unnatural, and do to the fact it's unnatural what can it cause? By being gay it can
cause depression. How can being gay cause depression? It can cause depression because by where
it is unnatural people will start to make fun of you or bully you. It also leads to suicide. Suicide is
the leading death among gay and lesbians' youth nationally. 30% of gay youth commit suicide
around the age of 15 (wespeakforthem.org). Can gay marriage affect other people? Can it affect
other people? The answer is yes. How is one way that it can affect other people? It's against some
religions;...show more content...
Being gay eve caused some deaths as a matter of fact; twenty one gays were brutally killed in 1996
for being gay (Intro). That's another reason why gay marriage should be illegal. Another reason
why gay marriage should be illegal is because it is against the bible. It says that if a man lies with a
male as with women, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their
blood will be on their own heads (Bible). These are my reasoning's on why gay marriage should be
illegal gay marriage is wrong, and even the bible says so. This world would be a better place without
gays, and gay marriage. I stand by this 100%, and always will agree to. The whole world needs to
come together, and fight gay

Arguments Against Gay Marriage
Gay marriage is something that has been debated about for a long time and it still is. It's a topic
that has been talked about everywhere. In the article Gay Marriage by authors, Andrew, it talks
about how gay marriage is a civil right that every American has. "I cannot for the life of me see
what terrible damage same–sex marriage would actually do to it." (Andrew), same–sex marriage
would not be causing harm to others. The main thesis is that same–sex marriage is not going to
cause harm and the reasons David has to be against it are not reasonable. Same–sex marriage should
not accelerate divorce rate and "Denmark has actually seen lower divorce rates among same–sex
couples than among heterosexual ones." (Andrew). There's is no reason for same–sex...show more

Gay marriage is also helpful and people should also view this side because they don't want to see
something that is good from same–sex marriages. If more people accepted it then more people will
be better off and there would be less problems for everyone. David makes the point that same–sex
marriages would go against traditional gender roles in marriages. Andrew does agree that gay
marriages would go against this but Andrew still doesn't think this is reasonable. The answer David
gives to be against same–sex marriage is "definitional: Two people of the same sex cannot be
married because marriage requires a man and a woman." (Andrew). This could not be the only
reason to be against it. Many things go against the norm but we let them slide so why shouldn't
same–sex marriage be treated the same. Gender roles should not be the reason to keep homosexuals
from marrying. The thing that can be the reason is fear of something new, or the norm. Same–sex
marriages are going against the norms and people are scared of new things. Homosexuals

Gay marriage is wrong. The couple would most likely refuse as its goes against their beliefs. No
one should have to force themselves to do something that they feel is morally wrong. I do not agree
that Christian's are a protected group and it would be a different outcome. All citizens of the United
States are protected by the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment, and justices apply
this clause to all situations concerning this issue. What are your thoughts on the future of this issue?

Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage
Same–sex marriage has been an issue of discussion for long in the United States even after its
legalization. Some people have argued against its legalization by saying that it is what the bible
defines as marriage. The other argument against the issue is that it is against the human morals.
Gays, as well as lesbian organizations, have been pushing for its legalization for a long period
through the expression of their sexuality predilections. Same–sex marriage required the legalization
because due to its importance in ensuring the society view on the gay and lesbian associations'
changes and also to enable children who are born same–sex couples are recognized as citizens of the
United States legally. The other reason for the legalization is that sex–same marriages should enjoy
legal rights similar to those enjoyed by the heterosexuals.
The United States Supreme Court has already ruled out in support of same–sex marriage after an
extensive legal procedure. Based on the ruling, all the couples are entitled to the right of marriage
may it be same–sex or the opposite sex. The law on the same–sex marriage has gone through
detailed discussions, involving many different legal parties. Historically the law on the same–sex
marriage has taken many years with different parties battling its litigation (Pinello, 2016). The civil
right had the idea that same–sex couples ought to have same benefits as the heterosexual couples.
Indeed, they must have same legal protection, this has been

Equal rights is an important issue in Australia and the current legislation that surrounds gay marriage
is a major road block to equality for our nation. It is unjustifiable to discriminate against a minority
group based upon characteristics that are entirely harmless to society and won't impact those outside
of the gay and lesbian community. Here are some of the reasons behind why homosexual couples are
still being discriminated against.
Gay Marriage Violates Tradition
Throughout history, many cultures worldwide have classified marriage as the union of one man and
one woman. But tradition does have a malicious side to it, filled with atrocities, violence and
exploitation. It includes slavery, the denial of rights to women and the execution of systematic
discrimination against minority groups. Integrating and expanding human rights have always
shattered tradition and we have typically been better off for it.
Same–sex Marriage Trivializes and Thus Weakens the Institution of Marriage

and states have allowed same–sex couples to...show more content...
Past studies suggest that polygamist unions destabilizes a society as it leaves many males or
females, depending on which gender takes multiple partners, without the opportunity to procreate or
marry. On the contrary, same–sex marriage does not alter the fundamental idea of two people
entering into a legal union. Take for example the legalisation of marijuana. In many countries such
as America and Finland marijuana has been legal to use for many years and so far there has not
been any progress in legalising other illicit substances such as cocaine and methamphetamines. This
example only further emphasises that allowing gay marriage does not necessarily mean that
Australia will be put on the slippery slope towards legalising

Same–Sex Marriages
There are many important issues discussed in public policy today. One of these issues is
homosexual marriage. This is an important issue because it deals with a relatively large minority of
the United States. This issue is put into many different lights. Those of morals, family values and
religion; and those of equality, constitutionality, and right to privacy. A battle has been in progress
for years over whether equal rights and equal protection against discrimination should be extended to
homosexuals. Recently this has expanded into the area of marriage. The topic of homosexual
marriages is a prevalent issue today. Even in the nation's capital, representatives are finding ways to
make this alliance unlawful. This...show more content...
Having homosexual parents is also a major stressor for a child due to society's norms and values, it
can cause embarrassment and abnormal feelings. Children who are raised in alternative family
lifestyles, are more likely to engage in drugs and have negative feelings towards their parents and
themselves, than children raised by normal families." To allow an act such as homosexual marriages
to continue, it displays that we have blatant disrespect for our children's future. To ensure that the
United States remains successful, and remains the prominent leader of the world, we must first take
care of our children. Banning homosexual marriages can do this and, it will lessen the amount of
improper behavior our children see and imitate.
Many people believe God created man and woman with the intentions to bear children. In addition,
they stress the absence of homosexuality in the Bible. Critics of homosexual marriages regard
homosexuality as an abnormal behavior according to the Christian faith, which is the dominant
religion in the United States. Homosexuality has been seen as an unacceptable lifestyle and those
who practice it are prone to receive criticism if not outright hostility. Most respectable ministers
would refuse to marry two people of same–sex marriage.
I feel that if same–sex marriages was to be allowed, that more people would start thinking it is okay
to be gay; which it is not. Most

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized Essay
Legalization of gay marriage has been a major controversial topic for a long time. Although,
many people do not know what it means to be homosexual, most people do not know the actual
definition of homosexuality and they do not know how difficult it is to be gay in this society.
There are many reasons why people are against gay marriage and homosexuals all together. Most
of the reasons are based on religious bias another big reason is being afraid of the unknown. Some
smaller reasons are that being heterosexual is such a social norm now a day's people are not used to
the change. Also parents often time tell kids that homosexuality is not a good thing because of there
own views. Gay marriage should be legalized because most of the people...show more content...
Back in 1985 gay rights were very strict they could not serve openly in the military, have sex
without having the risk of being arrested, be protected under hate crime legislation, get married,
be protected as a transgendered child, visit the same sex spouse in the hospital, come out as a
celebrity and not have backlash, and identify as a transgender without being classified as having a
mental disorder. These laws were in place 28 years ago and some of them have not changed; such
as, be safe from being fired, get married, be parents in many states, serve the military as
transgendered, and be served by every business. These are many of the hardships of being a part of
the LGBT society. There are many reasons for things being the way they are still today.
Some of the reasons why people have such a hard time in accepting gay marriage have to do with,
religion, accepting change, having parents tell you that it's not right. Most people know that
religion has a lot to do with why people do not like gay marriage or gays in general. Each religion
has there own opinion on the matter, Christianity can go both ways; it was traditionally considered
a sin but other denominations have reconsidered or are in the process of changing. In the bible it
does not specifically say anything about gay marriage. Judaism has three types of people who

Against Gay Marriage
So many people in America and around the world are against Gay Marriage and Gay Rights in
general. Why can't the LGBT community feel comfortable with who they are? Also, why can't
people around the world be happy for them? Why is being gay wrong if it's something that makes
that person happy? It upsets me how much cruelty there is around us, especially with people who
want to love others of the same gender as them. Honestly if someone is a part of the LGBT
community it is perfectly fine in my opinion. If you judge a person for being themselves before
getting to know them first, then don't get mad if decides to judge you. Everyone should be able to

What doesn't make sense is why can't people be happy for them? Being gay doesn't affect the world
in a negative way. It's not like if you're gay you're a threat to society, you just love who you love.
"I think all consenting adults who want to commit to a life partner ought to be treated the same
way." (John Stossel). This quote from this author is really well said and I agree with it. If
everyone was treated the same and not judge other people for who they are then there would be
less hate in the world. "Even though in religions it is frowned upon for two people of the same
gender to get married, it is still the union of two souls, whether it be man and man, woman and
woman, or man and woman – an expression of love and commitment to each other as well as the
rest of the world." (Carrie Gilleand). I also agree with this statement because love is love no matter

Pro Gay Marriage Essay
Imagine if you couldn't marry the person who you were in love and wanted to spend the rest of
your life with because it was seen morally, socially and religiously wrong. For millions of people
all around the world that's the harsh reality. Times are changing in the world that we live in today
however discrimination against gay and lesbian couples is still a frequent issue with only 13
countries that fully legalise and recognise gay marriage with full equality. The most common
argument for people being against gay marriage is that it's "not natural" for two people of the same

Everybody has the right to live the life they want to and by restricting the freedom of people who
want to be married to someone who's the same sex is out of order. A topic that opponents of gay
marriage find very controversial and seen as morally wrong is gay or lesbians wanting to have
children. Opponents are said to think that gay married couples who want to have children will "harm
the children". They argue that that children need both a mum and dad to succeed in life. Despite
this, several studies have shown that there's no difference between a child's well–being from being
raised by an opposite sex couple compared to a child whose been raised by a same sex couple. I
find opponents that argue that same sex couples shouldn't be allowed to have children extremely
frustrating. When people get married the next step for most couples is to start a family however
this is seen as a controversial concept for same sex couples to do. Why shouldn't everybody be
giving the right to have children and raise them into the world being the best parent they can be
protecting and nurturing them? I also find it very baffling when opponents against same sex
couples having children think that same sex couples aren't as good of people to be a parent to a
child compared to a same sex couple. Just because you're not straight doesn't not mean that you're a
bad person in anyway and that

Arguments Against Gay Marriage
Gay marriage is also referred to as same sex marriage. Same sex relationships occur when men and
women are attracted to someone of the same gender as themselves. According to many opponents,
gay marriages can be described as more of the abandonment of gender distinctions; because one
cannot have same sex marriage while still believing that gender is relevant. For that reason, same
genders getting married denies the obvious purpose of marriage between a man and woman, which
is procreation. This research will analyze the arguments for and against gay marriages and the
religious view of same sex marriages. Denying same sex couples the legal rights to get married
could mean denial of basic rights to enjoy the human benefits. On the other hand,...show more

Gays and lesbians can also be granted the rights to legal marriage in order to ensure that all
citizens enjoy full human rights. Therefore, if gay marriage is legalized they can have the same
rights as heterosexuals in terms of adoption and medical right. On the other hand, the religions
would be offended since marriage is an institution supposed to be holy and ordained by God if
gays and lesbians are legalized. Therefore, by allowing same sex marriage sanctity of marriage
would be violated. If gay marriages are not legally recognized the harmful consequences the
couples would face include inability to participate in medical decisions that involve their partner
who are dying, lack of right to own common property and exclusion from employment benefits.
Opponents also fear that if gay marriages are recognized the society is more likely to accept same
sex relationships as moral. The traditional definition of marriage is valuable and the society should
define it as the only marriage and legitimize it. As a result, gay marriages are the eventual rejection
of objective reality where an environment of going against the norm is

Against Gay Marriage Essay

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Gay Marriage The fight for the legalization of gay marriage is not a new one. Tracing back to the 1960s, one of the first instances of protest was in New York City. Police had been raiding gay bars often, but one day the gay and lesbian people began to fight back. This caused many riots and protest throughout the country. On June 26th, 2015, in a 5 to 4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that same–sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states. However, even today, same–sex marriage is not fully accepted and supported. While some argue that gay marriage is wrong, there is good reason as to why it should be legal. Marriage is a right that benefits society protected by the U.S. constitution and the acceptance and legalization of same–sex marriage decreases the suicide rates among people. Many people argue that gay marriage is morally wrong and unnatural because of religious beliefs. The Bible states that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. In the chapter of Leviticus, God says that same–sex marriage is an abomination, a hateful sin and those who commit this sin will be punished for it. Firstly, the argument made here is strictly limited religion while legalizing gay marriage is more of a governmental concern. The constitution has already addressed this issue by separating church and state in order to make laws fair and impartial to religion. To add on, not everyone in the U.S practices Christianity, so arguing that it is morally wrong because of one religion is unfair to those who believe otherwise. Furthermore, if everyone were to be Christian and followed every single rule in the Bible, our lives would all look very different. Finally, if we are still following scripture, we see in the book of John that God commands us to love one another as God loves us. As a result, those who argue against gay marriage may not have considered all the aspects of the Bible. Marriage is a right that is clearly stated in the Constitution of the United States. More specifically in the 14 Amendment, it states that "no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law". For marriage equality, this means that a citizen of the United States will not be denied the right to marry someone of the same Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Argument Against Gay Marriage John and Massey have been a couple since college. As growing up into being a couple things got serious between them they was starting to fall for each other more to a higher expectation stage. John and Massey started going out on dates every weekend, buying each other things and started living together having their own space to become close as lovers and not friends. As days arriving by John decided to propose to Massey even though he felt weird about it because they was gay. John and Massey have been thinking about getting married but as living in America today they realize some can be against gay marriage. John and Massey is kinda down about this situation because they fell they should become committed to each other more. People in America...show more content... Our nation was only made for straight marriage if gay marriage was to happen it will be a lot of divorces between couples some might change their mind and some might feel that their doing the wrong thing . Marriage was to help develop things and make things stronger between the pairs gay marriage wouldn't make anything successful plus it's against the law . This world was made for straight marriage to come among children and big housing and many things gay marriage is entitled. Gay couples would be very confused and did wrong at the step of getting married . There are only a couple who support gay marriage their actual wedding wouldn't be the same filled with friends and family because of the Grace of god people believe in . People may also think it's defending the God because he only came up with straight marriage to grow stronger with their lives being gay is just a choice and a relationship typical thing that doesn't need to be engaged . Gay couples should be able to keep just a bond instead of moving on to things that can't be developed because its defending our nature Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Gay Marriage Inequality Homosexuality is the state of being attracted to people of the same gender. The gay community is often referred to by an acronym– LGBTQ. This represents the different identities within homosexuality. The "L" stands for lesbian, the "G" stands for gay, the "B" stands for bisexual, the "T" stands for transgender, and the "Q" stands for queer. There has been much debate about many different issues surrounding homosexuality. The issue that has garnered the most attention from the media and the general public is same–sex marriage. The debate around same–sex marriage is on an international scale. In many places, it is illegal to marry someone of the same gender, or even have a same–sex relationship. In this paper, I will be taking the position that...show more content... It is a violation of two different human rights documents, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Covenant of Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights. Marriage inequality specifically violates section 10 of the ICSECR and Article 16 of the UDHR, which both guarantee having the ability to marry and start a family without discrimination. Marriage inequality comes from homophobia, which is a fear of homosexuality that is a result of strict gender roles and religious doctrine. Not allowing same–sex marriage is a breach of the social rights all humans have. It is a serious injustice, and while it is slowly being fixed, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. The LGBTQ community deserves equal marriage rights because they are all humans who should be able to love and commit like anyone Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage Student's name Professor's name Course: Date: ROGERIAN ARGUMENT (SAME SEX MARRIAGES) Introduction/background On April 1, 2001, Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same sex marriages. This trend has gained a lot of momentum with lot of nations in Europe and USA joining the trend (Riggle 231). This issue of same sex marriage has attracted both love and condemnation though those who are opposed to it much far outweigh the proponents. What is exciting is the fact that both sides of the divide have their own reasons most of which are valid. Africa and most of the Muslim nations are the only places which are still reluctant to embrace same sex marriages and their reasons are based on cultural and religious grounds. The proponents of this practice base their arguments on equality and freedom of choice. On the other hand, the opponents of same sex marriages anchor their arguments on points such as all rights have limits and it undermines religion. Arguments for same sex marriages The first point put forward by those who support same sex marriages is the element of equality. By this, they mean that there is no difference between man and woman and that the duo is equal (Jowett 75). This is line with the current legislation that has swept across all nations confirming the fact that both men and women are equal. They hold that the world is currently a civilized society that should not discriminate people based on religion, race, sexuality and denial of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I'm going to explain the severe problems that could increase because of the pronouncement of gay rights. My first issue will be the psychological experiences that our society is facing or may raised in the future. The second complication is the health challenges we face because of gay rights. In both issues I will give the pros and cons so you could acknowledge the misfortunes of this law is causing. • 6. Reasons Against Same Sex Marriage Len Quach Mr. Fish Philosophy 110 November 19, 2017 Reasons Why Same Sex–Marriage Should Not Be Legalized Historically, traditional marriage was always recognized union between a man and a woman, and same–sex marriage was completely considered illegal. However, in the recent years, the hot topic of same–sex marriage has become a big concern of all countries in the world. Many people believe that homosexual marriage is seemed to be unnatural and should not be allowed, while others think it should be. The Supreme Court of the United States commanded Constitution guarantees a right to homosexual couples, but is this a good thing? I totally disagree with legalizing same–sex marriage for some reasons, such as its religious immorality, negative effects on children, validating and promoting homosexual lifestyles, and imposing its acceptance on the society. First, gay marriage should not be allowed because of its religious immorality. Same–sex marriage is considered as unacceptable to almost every religion in the world. Marriage is established by God in Paradise for our first parents, Adam and Eve. Our Savior Jesus Christ taught: "From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother; and shall cleave to his wife." (Mark). Also, Genesis wrote, "God blessed them, saying: 'Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.'" ("10 Reasons Why Homosexual "Marriage" is Harmful and Must be Opposed"). • 7. Argument Against Homosexual Marriage Running Head: Homosexuals Marriage Homosexuals Marriage Homosexuals Marriage INTRODUCTION: In today's world, the problem of same sex marriage is increasing day by day. Although there are certain laws about the homosexuals in the western society but still many people do not see it with dignity because of their own ethical perceptions. As far as their legal marriage is concerned, it is very not a civilized action under any circumstances. Anything against natural phenomenon is hazardous physically and mentally. Giving them lawful support can be a hazard for the upcoming generations and a hindrance in conceiving babies to continue a family chain. The society and government should not allow homosexuals' marriage as it is an unnatural process and ethically unsound causing damage to the family life. MAIN BODY: Heterosexual marriage brings together a man and a woman to live with love, satisfy their needs and continue their family life by having children. Heterosexual marriages not only require emotional attraction but it also satisfy the natural needs that a person cannot get in the same sex marriage (Rimmerman & Wilcox, 2007). To be in favor of heterosexual marriage is not a medieval opinion. Heterosexual marriage is just like a key–lock relationship. A key is made for the lock, what if the key insist to remain with another key, or a lock insists to be with a lock. Similarly, homosexuals are like a key–to–key or lock to lock relationship that can give nothing but just and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Rhetorical Precis Austin Reynolds, in his term paper, " k," proves with strong assertations that there is evidence to support the legalization of homosexual marriage, though many would argue that it will harm the sanctity of marriage and harm the right to freedom of religion. Reynolds supports his ideas by expounding upon the inequality that LGBT people are given and how gay marriage will bring harm to no man, women, or child. The author's purpose is to inform the reader on all aspects of gay marriage so they understand the controversial reasoning behind the idea as well as the arguments against the proposal. Reynolds writes in a formal tone for the American Studies English teachers at Granite Hills High School. Introduction Imagine you live in a world where you can't ever be married to the person you love. Thats it. No matter what you do you cannot marry them because of a religious group. Imagine someone tells you that you can't eat a donut because they are on a diet. Now lets come back to reality and discover that the imagining you just did is a person's everyday life. Realize that they wake up everyday to ignorant people bestowing their beliefs upon other people and attempting to give them less rights. What other piece of American history does this parallel? This parallels the Civil Rights movement in the 1950's. Stores and restaurants were refusing service to black people because of the way they came into this world. • 9. Summary Of A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage Marriage: Golden Seal of Approval or Plain Ole' Bamboozle? In "A Gay Man's Case Against Gay Marriage" by Michael Bronski– a gay rights activist and professor of gay and lesbian studies at Dartmouth – Bronski argues that homosexuals are too focused on the legalization of gay marriage. He begins this article with his involvement and knowledge of gay rights and history. Then, he discusses the fact thatmarriage itself is problematic regardless of sexual orientation and that the gay community has developed healthier relationships without the need for marriage. Although, he is in complete support of the gay community to get this right and get the benefits that come along with it; He disagrees that it's a necessity and the biggest problem facing lesbians and gays. In this article Bronski does fail to mention the 50% of marriages that prosper, abuse and adultery that occurs outside of marriage. He also doesn't mention how the civil benefits affect marriages negatively or positively. Ensuring tax breaks, loans and inheritance arrangements for unwedded people can be very problematic. Although, he makes valid point on how the civil benefits should be available to all. He doesn't go into depth about how problematic this could be. Bronski doesn't go into how the same things can happen outside of marriage. Bronski focuses on the negative sides of marriage, while most of America was raised and were taught marriage is the goal. It has been enculturated into us. Divorces rates could be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Why Gay Marriage Should Be Illegal This paper will be fighting against gay marriage, and explaining why it is wrong. Why is it gay marriage shouldn't be allowed in the U.S or any other country it is legal in? There are many reasons why gay marriage should be illegal. Gay marriage should have never been made legal in the U.S. Gay marriage should be illegal because it's unnatural, it's against some religions, and it can affect other people. First gay marriage should be illegal cause of the fact it's unnatural. How is gay marriage unnatural, and do to the fact it's unnatural what can it cause? By being gay it can cause depression. How can being gay cause depression? It can cause depression because by where it is unnatural people will start to make fun of you or bully you. It also leads to suicide. Suicide is the leading death among gay and lesbians' youth nationally. 30% of gay youth commit suicide around the age of 15 (wespeakforthem.org). Can gay marriage affect other people? Can it affect other people? The answer is yes. How is one way that it can affect other people? It's against some religions;...show more content... Being gay eve caused some deaths as a matter of fact; twenty one gays were brutally killed in 1996 for being gay (Intro). That's another reason why gay marriage should be illegal. Another reason why gay marriage should be illegal is because it is against the bible. It says that if a man lies with a male as with women, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads (Bible). These are my reasoning's on why gay marriage should be illegal gay marriage is wrong, and even the bible says so. This world would be a better place without gays, and gay marriage. I stand by this 100%, and always will agree to. • 11. Arguments Against Gay Marriage Gay marriage is something that has been debated about for a long time and it still is. It's a topic that has been talked about everywhere. In the article Gay Marriage by authors, Andrew, it talks about how gay marriage is a civil right that every American has. "I cannot for the life of me see what terrible damage same–sex marriage would actually do to it." (Andrew), same–sex marriage would not be causing harm to others. The main thesis is that same–sex marriage is not going to cause harm and the reasons David has to be against it are not reasonable. Same–sex marriage should not accelerate divorce rate and "Denmark has actually seen lower divorce rates among same–sex couples than among heterosexual ones." (Andrew). There's is no reason for same–sex...show more content... Gay marriage is also helpful and people should also view this side because they don't want to see something that is good from same–sex marriages. If more people accepted it then more people will be better off and there would be less problems for everyone. David makes the point that same–sex marriages would go against traditional gender roles in marriages. Andrew does agree that gay marriages would go against this but Andrew still doesn't think this is reasonable. The answer David gives to be against same–sex marriage is "definitional: Two people of the same sex cannot be married because marriage requires a man and a woman." (Andrew). This could not be the only reason to be against it. Many things go against the norm but we let them slide so why shouldn't same–sex marriage be treated the same. Gender roles should not be the reason to keep homosexuals from marrying. The thing that can be the reason is fear of something new, or the norm. Same–sex marriages are going against the norms and people are scared of new things. Homosexuals Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Arguments Against Gay Marriages Chelsea, Thank you for your post. I used a similar example about reversing the situation. What if a gay couple owned a bakery and a customer asked if they would make a cake saying that would say Gay marriage is wrong. The couple would most likely refuse as its goes against their beliefs. No one should have to force themselves to do something that they feel is morally wrong. I do not agree that Christian's are a protected group and it would be a different outcome. All citizens of the United States are protected by the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment, and justices apply this clause to all situations concerning this issue. What are your thoughts on the future of this issue? Will the people become more accepting of business Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage Same–sex marriage has been an issue of discussion for long in the United States even after its legalization. Some people have argued against its legalization by saying that it is what the bible defines as marriage. The other argument against the issue is that it is against the human morals. Gays, as well as lesbian organizations, have been pushing for its legalization for a long period through the expression of their sexuality predilections. Same–sex marriage required the legalization because due to its importance in ensuring the society view on the gay and lesbian associations' changes and also to enable children who are born same–sex couples are recognized as citizens of the United States legally. The other reason for the legalization is that sex–same marriages should enjoy legal rights similar to those enjoyed by the heterosexuals. The United States Supreme Court has already ruled out in support of same–sex marriage after an extensive legal procedure. Based on the ruling, all the couples are entitled to the right of marriage may it be same–sex or the opposite sex. The law on the same–sex marriage has gone through detailed discussions, involving many different legal parties. Historically the law on the same–sex marriage has taken many years with different parties battling its litigation (Pinello, 2016). The civil right had the idea that same–sex couples ought to have same benefits as the heterosexual couples. Indeed, they must have same legal protection, this has been Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Equal rights is an important issue in Australia and the current legislation that surrounds gay marriage is a major road block to equality for our nation. It is unjustifiable to discriminate against a minority group based upon characteristics that are entirely harmless to society and won't impact those outside of the gay and lesbian community. Here are some of the reasons behind why homosexual couples are still being discriminated against. Gay Marriage Violates Tradition Throughout history, many cultures worldwide have classified marriage as the union of one man and one woman. But tradition does have a malicious side to it, filled with atrocities, violence and exploitation. It includes slavery, the denial of rights to women and the execution of systematic discrimination against minority groups. Integrating and expanding human rights have always shattered tradition and we have typically been better off for it. Same–sex Marriage Trivializes and Thus Weakens the Institution of Marriage This particular argument has deteriorated so dramatically in the past few years as numerous nations and states have allowed same–sex couples to...show more content... Past studies suggest that polygamist unions destabilizes a society as it leaves many males or females, depending on which gender takes multiple partners, without the opportunity to procreate or marry. On the contrary, same–sex marriage does not alter the fundamental idea of two people entering into a legal union. Take for example the legalisation of marijuana. In many countries such as America and Finland marijuana has been legal to use for many years and so far there has not been any progress in legalising other illicit substances such as cocaine and methamphetamines. This example only further emphasises that allowing gay marriage does not necessarily mean that Australia will be put on the slippery slope towards legalising Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Anti Same Sex-Marriages Essay Same–Sex Marriages There are many important issues discussed in public policy today. One of these issues is homosexual marriage. This is an important issue because it deals with a relatively large minority of the United States. This issue is put into many different lights. Those of morals, family values and religion; and those of equality, constitutionality, and right to privacy. A battle has been in progress for years over whether equal rights and equal protection against discrimination should be extended to homosexuals. Recently this has expanded into the area of marriage. The topic of homosexual marriages is a prevalent issue today. Even in the nation's capital, representatives are finding ways to make this alliance unlawful. This...show more content... Having homosexual parents is also a major stressor for a child due to society's norms and values, it can cause embarrassment and abnormal feelings. Children who are raised in alternative family lifestyles, are more likely to engage in drugs and have negative feelings towards their parents and themselves, than children raised by normal families." To allow an act such as homosexual marriages to continue, it displays that we have blatant disrespect for our children's future. To ensure that the United States remains successful, and remains the prominent leader of the world, we must first take care of our children. Banning homosexual marriages can do this and, it will lessen the amount of improper behavior our children see and imitate. Many people believe God created man and woman with the intentions to bear children. In addition, they stress the absence of homosexuality in the Bible. Critics of homosexual marriages regard homosexuality as an abnormal behavior according to the Christian faith, which is the dominant religion in the United States. Homosexuality has been seen as an unacceptable lifestyle and those who practice it are prone to receive criticism if not outright hostility. Most respectable ministers would refuse to marry two people of same–sex marriage. I feel that if same–sex marriages was to be allowed, that more people would start thinking it is okay to be gay; which it is not. Most Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized Essay Legalization of gay marriage has been a major controversial topic for a long time. Although, many people do not know what it means to be homosexual, most people do not know the actual definition of homosexuality and they do not know how difficult it is to be gay in this society. There are many reasons why people are against gay marriage and homosexuals all together. Most of the reasons are based on religious bias another big reason is being afraid of the unknown. Some smaller reasons are that being heterosexual is such a social norm now a day's people are not used to the change. Also parents often time tell kids that homosexuality is not a good thing because of there own views. Gay marriage should be legalized because most of the people...show more content... Back in 1985 gay rights were very strict they could not serve openly in the military, have sex without having the risk of being arrested, be protected under hate crime legislation, get married, be protected as a transgendered child, visit the same sex spouse in the hospital, come out as a celebrity and not have backlash, and identify as a transgender without being classified as having a mental disorder. These laws were in place 28 years ago and some of them have not changed; such as, be safe from being fired, get married, be parents in many states, serve the military as transgendered, and be served by every business. These are many of the hardships of being a part of the LGBT society. There are many reasons for things being the way they are still today. Some of the reasons why people have such a hard time in accepting gay marriage have to do with, religion, accepting change, having parents tell you that it's not right. Most people know that religion has a lot to do with why people do not like gay marriage or gays in general. Each religion has there own opinion on the matter, Christianity can go both ways; it was traditionally considered a sin but other denominations have reconsidered or are in the process of changing. In the bible it does not specifically say anything about gay marriage. Judaism has three types of people who practice their religion and they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Against Gay Marriage So many people in America and around the world are against Gay Marriage and Gay Rights in general. Why can't the LGBT community feel comfortable with who they are? Also, why can't people around the world be happy for them? Why is being gay wrong if it's something that makes that person happy? It upsets me how much cruelty there is around us, especially with people who want to love others of the same gender as them. Honestly if someone is a part of the LGBT community it is perfectly fine in my opinion. If you judge a person for being themselves before getting to know them first, then don't get mad if decides to judge you. Everyone should be able to live their lives the way they what to instead of worrying what people think of you and what they might call you....show more content... What doesn't make sense is why can't people be happy for them? Being gay doesn't affect the world in a negative way. It's not like if you're gay you're a threat to society, you just love who you love. "I think all consenting adults who want to commit to a life partner ought to be treated the same way." (John Stossel). This quote from this author is really well said and I agree with it. If everyone was treated the same and not judge other people for who they are then there would be less hate in the world. "Even though in religions it is frowned upon for two people of the same gender to get married, it is still the union of two souls, whether it be man and man, woman and woman, or man and woman – an expression of love and commitment to each other as well as the rest of the world." (Carrie Gilleand). I also agree with this statement because love is love no matter who you end up loving whether it be the same gender or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Pro Gay Marriage Essay Imagine if you couldn't marry the person who you were in love and wanted to spend the rest of your life with because it was seen morally, socially and religiously wrong. For millions of people all around the world that's the harsh reality. Times are changing in the world that we live in today however discrimination against gay and lesbian couples is still a frequent issue with only 13 countries that fully legalise and recognise gay marriage with full equality. The most common argument for people being against gay marriage is that it's "not natural" for two people of the same sex to have a marriage. Opponents of gay marriage make out that the natural world that we live in created marriage however this is wrong as us the humans did. How...show more content... Everybody has the right to live the life they want to and by restricting the freedom of people who want to be married to someone who's the same sex is out of order. A topic that opponents of gay marriage find very controversial and seen as morally wrong is gay or lesbians wanting to have children. Opponents are said to think that gay married couples who want to have children will "harm the children". They argue that that children need both a mum and dad to succeed in life. Despite this, several studies have shown that there's no difference between a child's well–being from being raised by an opposite sex couple compared to a child whose been raised by a same sex couple. I find opponents that argue that same sex couples shouldn't be allowed to have children extremely frustrating. When people get married the next step for most couples is to start a family however this is seen as a controversial concept for same sex couples to do. Why shouldn't everybody be giving the right to have children and raise them into the world being the best parent they can be protecting and nurturing them? I also find it very baffling when opponents against same sex couples having children think that same sex couples aren't as good of people to be a parent to a child compared to a same sex couple. Just because you're not straight doesn't not mean that you're a bad person in anyway and that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Arguments Against Gay Marriage never voted for same–sex marriage, that their rights should not be granted. They also argued that the LGBT community should not be allowed to redefine marriage. As a result, the backer of Prop. 8 urged the gay community to take the issue to a ballot. Instead of allegedly conspiring with the judges to rule in their favor, which goes against the will of the people. However, the proponent faced a strong opposition by various groups of people and politician. Barrack Obama, then the presidential nominee opposed the amendment terming it as discriminatory on sexual orientation basis. Although he claimed to consider marriage between opposite sex, Obama supported civil right activist that confer comparable rights and not gay marriage. Arnold Schwarzenegger who was the California governor opposed the proposition as a content of the court. He claimed to uphold the Supreme Court ruling and finds not fit to amend the constitution. He, however, said he was not in support of the same–sex marriage. Other politicians affiliated to the democrat party, senators, assembly members also opposed the move openly and supported the anti–proposition campaigns. Some religious...show more content... • 20. Arguments Against Gay Marriage Gay marriage is also referred to as same sex marriage. Same sex relationships occur when men and women are attracted to someone of the same gender as themselves. According to many opponents, gay marriages can be described as more of the abandonment of gender distinctions; because one cannot have same sex marriage while still believing that gender is relevant. For that reason, same genders getting married denies the obvious purpose of marriage between a man and woman, which is procreation. This research will analyze the arguments for and against gay marriages and the religious view of same sex marriages. Denying same sex couples the legal rights to get married could mean denial of basic rights to enjoy the human benefits. On the other hand,...show more content... Gays and lesbians can also be granted the rights to legal marriage in order to ensure that all citizens enjoy full human rights. Therefore, if gay marriage is legalized they can have the same rights as heterosexuals in terms of adoption and medical right. On the other hand, the religions would be offended since marriage is an institution supposed to be holy and ordained by God if gays and lesbians are legalized. Therefore, by allowing same sex marriage sanctity of marriage would be violated. If gay marriages are not legally recognized the harmful consequences the couples would face include inability to participate in medical decisions that involve their partner who are dying, lack of right to own common property and exclusion from employment benefits. Opponents also fear that if gay marriages are recognized the society is more likely to accept same sex relationships as moral. The traditional definition of marriage is valuable and the society should define it as the only marriage and legitimize it. As a result, gay marriages are the eventual rejection of objective reality where an environment of going against the norm is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
