1. Introduction:
Thank you for choosing CIMtrek DNA to explore your Notes estate.
We are proud of the product that we have created but should you have any issues when using,
please let us know and we shall endeavor to correct any shortcomings.
One of our key design objectives was ease of use; from installation through configuration and
execution. For the first phases of your migration project you will need very little in the way of
technical know-how, however some knowledge of IBM Domino server and Notes client would be
beneficial but is not, by any means, a prerequisite for using CIMtrek and deriving benefit from each
of the stages.

2. Installation and Configuration
2.1 Installation
Installing CIMtrek DNA is simplicity itself and requires a couple of mouse clicks and it’s done.
However, CIMtrek is Licensed for use on the PC you are installing it and the Domino server and
Notes client declared at the time you purchased the right to use the product.
To install and execute the software you will need the following:
 A Lotus Notes client version 8.5.2 or newer
 A Notes user ID that logs on to the Domino server (Administrator is recommended)
 .NET Framework 4 or higher
Once all that is established simply double click the installer icon and the rest of the
process is self-explanatory
2.2 Configuration
Once the installation is complete you need to complete the configuration process. Configuring
CIMtrek is very straightforward; simply click on the “Migration Configuration” tab and you will be
presented with the following screen (Figure 1).

The things to address are as follows:
1. The NSF Ignore List – is the standard Notes NSF files that you want to explicitly ignore during
the discovery phase. There is a default list of exclusions.
2. Output files - the locations where you want the output files and error logs to be placed.

When you’re finished, please remember to save the configuration by clicking the Save configuration
button in the bottom right of the screen.
You’re now ready to proceed to section 3: the Discovery process.
3. Discovery
Before the task of migrating applications can begin, there is the need to understand which NSFs are
to be migrated and in order to do that we include a scaled down version of the CIMtrek Discovery
Process. Given the correct access (normally Administrator) rights, this process automatically
interrogates the Domino server(s) or Notes clients and compiles a complete list of the NSFs you
have. This analysis reports the headline characteristics of the application as shown in the screen
shot, See Figure 3 below. CIMtrek Migrator can then analyse those NSFs in detail to determine what
needs to be converted and how much effort it might take.
To run the discovery all that is required is to connect to Notes/Domino files that you want to
interrogate. The user name is derived from the Notes-ID file on your PC – all you require is the
password. You can select “Local” (which uses the Notes client) or Remote which will access the
named domino server (found in the Server or its IP Address from the drop down menu). Finally
enter the required password and click the Discovery or quick Discovery button. This will then
establish the connection and the discovery process will start automatically.
Please note that the setting for the “include Mail Databases” checkbox is unchecked by default. Only
select this option if you want to include all Mail users on the system.
The following three screen shots show what is discovered and analyzed during the process.

You only need run this process once – on subsequent occasions you will be given the opportunity of
recalling a previous discovery and using that. You do not need to concern yourself with the fact that
the NSF may have been accessed since the full discovery was run as CIMtrek takes care of that
during migration.
The information displayed by the discovery process shows:
 Title (Name of the Application)
 The NSF Name
 Size
 Original Template Name used when the application was built
 Number of documents
 The number of forms CIMtrek finds
 The number of sub forms, shared Fields, pages, Form Fields, Actions, formulae, columns,
scripts, data connections
 Last modified date and date created.
 Users with Manager Access.

If you run a quick discovery you see the first 4 columns only – double clicking a row will give more
detail.
In addition to the above, CIMtrek will also allow drill down into some of the columns, in this example
you see a list all of the users with access rights.

Finally Cimtrek provides an assessment as to the complexity of the application as we see it. The
algorithm looks at the various aspects including formulae, number of forms, views and scripts and
reports on a range of Simple to Very Complex consider alternative options.
