Over the past 2 years, a community of registrars, online learning leaders, and vendors have collaborated to establish industry standards for extended, competency-based transcripts. In this presentation, attendees will learn the ins and outs of implementing these standards and providing their students with a next generation learning record. Presenters will detail the efforts and early results of proof-of-concept implementations of the extended transcripts at UMUC and UWEx.

Current semester-based, course-section-centric model creates disaggregated, siloed data that doesn’t support accountability, student agency, or career readiness
Learning Objects provides a programmatic solution that is purpose-built to support competency alignment, tracking, and remediation.
Learning Objects enables backward design of programs (not just courses).
At the program level, curriculum managers, faculty members, and others are able to map program outcomes (competencies) to assessments and learning activities. These can have one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many relationships.
To support the design and delivery of competency-based education and competency-based learning approaches, Learning Objects provides a full range of services and technologies.
