14. Katz’ Uses & Gratifications theory:
Inform and educate- According to Katz, Vibe magazine will inform and educate the audience about R&B music highlighting information about
interviews with R&B artists, music reviews and contains information about interviews which have taken place between Riddim magazine and
different R&B artists. It also Informs and educates the audience by providing them with up to date news about R&B music and the artists
featured in the magazine lives.
Diversion- According to Katz, Riddim magazine will divert the reader into a world of R&B and the reader won’t lose interest throughout
reading the magazine. Vibe contains interviews, reviews, pictures, editorials that can help the reader escape from reality.
Personal Identification- According to Katz, Riddim magazine will allow the reader to see the point of view of the R&B artists so therefore they
are able to relate to them. They can also identify with the artist through what they speak about in the interview if its personal information.
Personal Relationship- According to Katz, Riddim magazine will interact with the reader and make them feel a part of the magazine. They can
build a relationship with the artist inside of the magazine and they can also build a relationship with the editor when they build the editorial.
Katz Theory
15. Hartley’s Subjectivities
Age: The age that RIddim magazine is aimed for is 15-30 years old, I think this because of the content in the
magazine and the genre of the music is usually associated with younger people. Also the news in the magazine
will be more relatable for people of a younger age because its based on the artists which they like and have had a
interest in while growing up.
Gender: The gender that Riddim magazine is aimed for is men, this is evident from a majority of the artists that
are featured on the magazine being male artists. This also means that most of the articles in the magazine will
also be based on male artists so therefore males will be able to relate to the magazine more than someone of the
female gender.
Class: The class of the magazine is middle class, this is due to the type of music and the artists that are in the
magazine. I also believe that the magazine is aimed at middle class due to the price of the magazine being
extremely similar to other magazines and therefore not being overpriced so therefore everyone is able to afford
it.
Ethnicity: The magazine appeals to all different ethnicities so therefore it has a larger target audience.
16. Maslow Theory
Social Climbers: The audience will be known as social climbers for example if the celebrity on the front cover is
wearing expensive designer clothing the audience will like this. Reading this magazine the audience will want
to be build their status in society and as it is a well known popular magazine the audience can therefore do this
by reading it.
Caregivers: The audience will be known as caregivers for example if there is an interview in the magazine that
is emotional they will sympathize with the celebrity and their situation.
Survivors: The audience will be known as survivors because they will like the routine of the magazine of the
magazine being produced monthly furthermore they will also like the fact that you can subscribe to the
magazine meaning they will get a magazine every month without fail. They like the routine that they will be
kept up to date on R&B news.
17. House style- Riddim
Colour scheme-
The colour scheme of Riddim magazine is Grey, Yellow and white. I have chosen the grey and white because
they are both simplistic colours which enable the text to be easily read for the reader. I have chosen the colour
yellow because it is bright and bold so therefore means that the magazine will stand out on the shop shelves.
Social media:
It will be in synergy with social media because it will mean that the magazine will become more well known
and therefore more people are likely to buy the magazine when it is placed on the shelves.
18. Font styles
Acceleration and reaction Flowers Kingdom Asiyah Script
I have chosen these specific fonts because there are simplistic but stand out. The bold used on the fonts allows
to catch the readers eye and therefore encourage them to want to buy the magazine. I have also chosen these
fonts because they are different to most fonts so therefore it makes them unique and allows them to look
different from competitor magazines.
24. Draft Interview
Hello, how are you ?
I’m good thank you
When did your music career start off ?
My music career started off from a very young age when I used to go my local recording studio with my mates and eventually we recorded our first song which we uploaded
onto YouTube and managed to get 2,000 and it all kicked off from there really. I released my first album and it sold out worldwide, everyone was just loving my music and
they couldn’t get enough of it. I started to release songs every other week and I kept on going up and up in the charts.
What is your most successful song ?
I would have to say my most successful song is take care which I did with Rihanna which managed to reach 200,000,000 views on YouTube which is the most I’ve managed to
get on one song. The song was one of my first with Rihanna and was extremely popular worldwide not just in America just in England too.
Who is the biggest artist you’ve ever performed with ?
I would have to probably say Rihanna we have done lots of collaborations together and they have always been extremely successful and even though we have broken up and
aren’t on the best terms at the moment she will always be a big part of my life. We’ve always loved the same genre of music and will continue to do songs with each other
until we both decide to retire.
What is your favourite song at the moment ?
I would have to say my favourite song at the moment is Dave Wanna Know, I have liked this song since it has come out and that’s why I decided to create my own twist on
my feature which I released recently. I think Dave is a honest and a good role model as a artist to prove that no matter where you come from in life you still have the chance
to be successful and I just wanted to help his dream come true.
What is the best part about being such a well respected artist ?
I wouldn’t say I am well respected but I believe its just about the amount of work you put in and success will come to you, people just expect it to fall on a plate for them but
it doesn’t as you know I started off as an actor and decided that I took a risk in going into the music industry and that risk has paid off. I love listening to young and upcoming
talent and helping them to become successful.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?
I hope to see myself as one of the biggest artists of all time, I know that may seem like a huge stretch for such a short amount of time but I am eager to do whatever it takes
to achieve it. I’m also hoping to be able to retire in the next 5 years but obviously this would depend on lots of different factors such as my health
Who is your biggest inspiration ?
I would have to say my biggest inspiration is Will Smith because of the way he has built his self up from the very bottom and how successful he is now due to all of his hard
work and dedication.
When is your next album out and what is it called ?
My next album is planned to come out in March next year and its called Fire, its mostly based on the events which have happened in my life recently and how I’m dealing
with them but I don’t want to give to much away.
Thank you for your time Drake, do you have anything you would like to say to your fans watching this at home ?
I would just like to thank them for everything they have done for me and how far I have come because of it and watch out for the new album releasing.
