Our Offer
TECNALIA is committed to renewable
sources of energy in the marine
environment as a sector of the future
which helps towards sustainable economic
growth and stable job creation.
Therefore, TECNALIA believes that
research, development and innovation can
play a key role in obtaining competitive
technologies compared to other energy
sources.
In this context, TECNALIA offers its
knowledge and expertise to companies
interested in marine energy in areas such
as modelling and analysis of floating
structures, mooring systems, electric
transmission, materials, resource or
environmental impact assessment.
WIND AND THE SEA,
OUR ENERGY FUTURE01.
TECNALIA prioritises the use of this
knowledge with a clear global approach,
focusing on the deployment of cost
effective marine energy farms throughout
their life cycle.
TECNALIA has accumulated extensive
experience in the development of devices
for harnessing wave energy and offshore
wind, especially at great depths.
TECNALIA, in collaboration with industrial
partners, is developing three high-impact
technologies: a floating offshore wind
turbine, a wave energy converter and a
superconducting electric generator for
offshore wind turbines.
The experience gained by TECNALIA in the
development of these technologies, gives
it a privileged view of the opportunities in
the marine environment for sustainable
and efficient energy use.

they boast high CO2
dissolution capacity, high
chemical stability, reduced corrosion, liquid state
at a wide range of temperatures, an almost
null vapour pressure (avoiding losses during the
capture process). Ionic Liquids are extraordinarily
versatile to optimise CO2
capture.

TURNING WASTE
INTO VALUE14.
In many cases,
a stable supply
(of critical materials) is
important for climate
policy objectives and
for technological
innovation. The EU is
completely dependent
on imports, with China
accounting for 97%
of world production in
2009.

COMMUNICATION FROM
THE COMMISSION TO THE
EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT,
THE COUNCIL, THE EUROPEAN
ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL
COMMITTEE AND THE COMMITTEE
OF THE REGIONS. COM (2011)
25 FINAL.
We generate business opportunities...
for ecoindustry, focusing on the resolution
of environmental problems and for all
industry in which the environment is
extremely relevant to business, through:
• Obtaining value from waste in the form
of new resources (new materials,
energy, secondary raw materials, etc.)
• Optimisation of resources (materials,
energy, land use) in the treatment and
management of contaminated materials
(waste, wastewater, contaminated soil
and sediments) when valuation is
not feasible.
We also offer guidance on:
• Environmental control for the
assessment and the improvement of
the level of compliance with legal
requirements.
• Evaluation, analysis and technical
guidance on compliance with the
REACH Directive and the Biocide
Directive.
• Analysis and evaluation of chemical
and biological properties of biocide and
chemical materials and products.
SUSTAINABLE RECOVERY OF
CRITICAL MATERIALS PRESENT
IN WASTE.
Search for solutions for the
sustainable recovery of critical
materials, i.e. those that due to
their wide application and/or
scarce presence in nature will have
difficulties to cover their demand
on a medium-to-long-term.
New methods to extract key elements (cobalt,
magnesium, niobium, rare earths...) from
different waste streams (electric-electronic
sector, automotive industry-batteries,
combustion ashes, etc.).
