When we look at art, such as this Daguerreotype from the mid 1800s, we can learn a lot about the culture and people of the times. What can you tell by looking at this picture of a seamstress? Now lets look at this picture of modern day seamstress’. What differences did you notice? Photography is a type of art that we can use to learn about our culture. We can also learn about cultures from long ago, and cultures from other lands through art.
On the left is a Daguerreotype from the 1800s of some firemen. On the right is a photo of f modern day firemen. Please study the pictures, and then complete the Venn Diagram about firemen. (Question #3.)
The Statue of Liberty is a sculpture. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.
