Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) has attracted a number of noteworthy organizations, to include NASCAR. Together with Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser) and Chevy, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will be driving two cars this year that will be replicated for sale as die-cast collectors cars. The proceeds will benefit SOWF.
SOWF has been extremely successful with its fund raising efforts. Not only has it raised significant monies at their banquets - $300,000.00 recently, but corporate sponsors (e.g. General Dynamics) have donated as much as $500,000.00. Lockheed Martin and others have raised over $1 million.
Here is just one example of an dinner attended recently and some of the sponsors in attendance. Notice that there is no line drawn when it comes to our Warriors – sports donations included the New York Yankee Foundation and The Steinbrenner Family. Never let it be said that “penny pinchers” are “tight wads!” Even the Aussies are into supporting our troops! And, notice the “stuffed shirts” on Wall Street have a soft side…
Can “One Man Make A Difference,” you say? This man ran for 24 hours and raised $24,000. When we go to finer restaurants, we tip the Maitre Di for a good table, so what is one worth at this gala? "An Evening with the Navy Seals" - sponsored by First Magnus Financial Corporation raised $150,000. By making an annual gift of $2,000 for five consecutive years, individuals become exclusive lifetime partners of the NSW Endowment Society.
The Wounded Warrior Project, like the five others, has attracted a large number of notable sponsors. This slide represents the number of golf outings planned for this year alone! Remember these wounded warriors when you eat your next breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Again, one man can make a difference - Martin Franklin, CEO of Jarden, Inc., the company that owns Coleman, is a 2007 Kiehl’s Badwater Ultramarathon rookie. His efforts at Badwater have raised close to $500,000.
Just this week, an article reached into our hearts from the pages of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Notice that the soldier is wearing the Wounded Warrior Project logo. Jimmy Buffett is usually connected with sand and sun. At this year's WWP Gala, the king of the beach was singing support for wounded service members and their families. Looks like U-Haul hauls a lot more than just household goods! Many companies encourage their employees to make charitable contributions by matching their philanthropic support.
Locally, an Operation Homefront family has received help from Bill Heard Chevrolet. Just a few of the corporate sponsors that have come forward to show they care include: Sprint, Toyota, BOA, Ameriquest, Booz Allen, Boeing, UPS (again), Hobby Shack, Havoline, Kohl’s and both the Elks lodge and Knights of Columbus.
Seems like Atlanta’s golfing community is getting a lot of attention and so are our troops and their TOUR sponsors, like Corey Pavin, for example. Is it possible that the WCCC event could attract an emcee like “Golf’s Master of Ceremonies Comedian” Tom Dreesen? Could this event draw the attention of the Screen Actor’s Guild members like Joe Pesci and Clint Eastwood?
I always heard that their was strength in numbers – over 600,000 Avon independent sales reps. offering the “Yellow Ribbon” and raising over $1,800,000.00. The $50-million Center for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes was built entirely from private funds!
The first thing that caught my attention was the individuals who had contributed to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund – Donald Trump, Friends of John McCain, Pres. & Senator Clinton, and singer Jon Bon Jovi… Also, as previously mentioned, our national sports arena seems to be quite committed to helping our heroes – e.g. the NFL. Wall Street continues to be a strong supporter – NYSE and Morgan Stanley, as is the banking community – BOA, Credit Suisse. Anheiser-Busch always shows up! Next time you think about sending flowers, remember who is there for our troops… And, lest we forget, not everything that the petroleum companies do is bad! ExxonMobil has set the bar.
Now, can we count on our neighbors? Really? These are 13 of the largest and few would argue, that they are the best! The cause before us is a clear one – “help those who have helped us.” It is quite possible that the senior executives of these companies live in the Alpharetta/Roswell area and some may even be members of WCCC or AGC. Let’s give them “first right of refusal” (as if they will).
Ok, there is where the “rubber meets the road!” These are the TOP TEN Sponsors of Atlanta non-profit organizations! Check out the funds raised for this single charity - $100,000.00 and UP!
Now, these companies are not exactly “second class citizens.” Remember, they may have donated as much as $99,999.00. Scott, you mentioned AirTran to me at lunch and here they show up! The AJC just finished publishing a full page article, seen in this PowerPoint Presentation for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Scott, your Agreement indicates a donation of $25,000 for a “Presenting Sponsor.” Well, if the first two preceding slides didn’t cover it, surely this page will…
WOW!!! Here appears to be the “melting pot!” WCCC could meet their “initial goal” from just the donations made by these companies.
Now, here is a list that needs to be reckoned with… Some significant organizations have shown up on this list – could they have given at a greater level if they “felt the need?” Check out the names here: Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers, Blimpie, Chick-Fil-A, Cox Enterprises, Cousins Properties, CSX, Dominos, Einstein Bros. Bagel, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Experian, Georgia Natural Gas, Guardian Life Insurance, HBO, Humana, Hyatt Regency Atlanta, KPMG, Kroger, Marriot Hotels, Porsche Cars of North America, Radiant Systems, Safeco Insurance, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., Washington Mutual, Wausau Insurance Company, etc.
