                Habitat :
                Freshwater marshes to
                 tidal flats
                Birdwatch note :
                Uncommon migrant, sharp
                 contrast between dark
                 flight feathers and grey
                 coverts during flight.

                    Habitat :
                    Marshes, rice paddies,
                     mangroves.
                    Birdwatch note :
                    Roosting in trees during
                     daytime and flies out to feed

                     Identified by all rufous wings.

Blue-throated Bee-eater

                    Scientific name:
                    Merops viridis
                    Habitat:
                    fields adjacent to forest, open
                     country and grasslands
                    Birdwatch note:
                    Chestnut head and blue
                     throat. Fairly common, alone
                     or in groups. Nests in colonies
                     in riverbanks and cliffs

Cinnamon Bittern

                      Scientific name:
                      Ixobrychus cinnamomeus
                      Habitat:
                      Ricefields, marshes and mangroves.
                      Birdwatch note:
                      Generally silent and solitary.
                       Identified by all cinnamon rufous
                       wings and tail. Seen less regularly in
                       Metro Manila sites which include
                       Tambomudflats, Paranaque and the
                       University of the Philippines campus
                       in QC.

Little Egret

                  Scientific name:
                  Egretta Garzetta
                  Habitat :
                  Coastal marsh, tidal flats and ricefields
                  Birdwatch note :
                  Common migrant. Black bill, black legs and
                   yellow feet.
                  WBCP Note:
                  The most common egret in Metro Manila.
                   Seen along Manila Bay coastal areas of
                   Paranaque and Navotas. Treated as a
                   migrant but recorded throughout the year
                   in Paranaque and suspected to breed there
                   but nesting sites have yet to be found.

Yellow Bittern

                    Scientific name:
                    Ixobrychus sinensis
                    Habitat:
                    Common in freshwater wetlands
                    Birdwatch note:
                    Often seen flying low, identifiable by the
                     black flight feathers.
                    WBCP Note:
                    Seen throughout the year along Paranaque
                     coastal areas and also at University of the
                     Philippines campus in QC.

Great Egret

                 Scientific name:
                 Egretta alba
                 Habitat :
                 Coastal marshes to ricefields.
                 Birdwatch note :
                 Uncommon migrant, often joining other
                  egrets. Wintering birds have yellow bill and
                  all black legs and feet.
                 WBCP Note:
                 During migration season, flocks of up to
                  60+ birds can be counted flying in V
                  formation following the coastline of Manila
                  Bay.

Black-crowned Night Heron

                    Scientific name:
                    Nycticorax nycticorax
                    Habitat :
                    Wetlands from ricefields to magroves.
                    Birdwatch note :
                    Roosting in trees during the daytime and
                     flies out to feed at twilight. Call is a loud
                     wok in flight.
                    WBCP note:
                    Breeding populations observed in
                     Asiaworld, Paranaque and Valenzuela in the
                     last few years. Small colony of free-range
                     birds also exist in the Manila Zoo.
