The 35th largest producer, Fibertex A/S, Aalborg, Denmark, is under
new leadership as of June 1, 1995. With Knud Waede Hansen as the newly
appointed managing director, Fibertex is focusing the majority of its
efforts on the carpet backing, furniture/bedding and geotextile markets.
One of the new developments at Fibertex is its "Two-in-One"
carpet backing system, jointly developed with Dow Chemical. Consisting
of a polyethylene filled latex compound and a polypropylene nonwoven,
the system is unique in its dimensional stability, fire retardancy and
resiliency. Two-in-One can be produced on a conventional two-shot
backing line and offers an environmentally responsible alternative to
traditional carpet tile backings. The system is now available in tile
collections from various European carpet manufacturers.
"Comfortback" secondary carpet backing, which was
introduced last year, has made a smooth debut in the marketplace,
performing well in tests; it has also been included in the collections
of several carpet manufacturers.
3. Along with growth in the furniture/bedding sector, which remained
steady in 1994, geotextiles is another developing area for Fibertex.
Beginning in July, the company has been supplying geotextiles to the
Chantier: A16 Amiens Highway project (Boulogne-sur-Mer) in France.
Fibertex also supplied geotextiles for the new Oslo International
Airport in Norway. In the building segment, Fibertex presented projects
for construction at the Techtextil exhibition in Frankfurt in June;
these included applications such as substrates for roofcovering, roof
gardens, dust covers, wall lining, impact sound suppression, vertical
building drains and concrete floor lining.
Despite the effects of continuing increases in raw material prices
and a somewhat slow response on the product pricing end, the company
reports satisfactory overall development in 1994. Markets in Central
Europe were the strongest this year and are expected - along with
Thailand - to continue their growth in the future. More than 90% of
Fibertex's production is exported, primarily to Central Europe,
North America, Australia and the Far and Middle East.
