1. Music Video Evaluation
Question 4
How did you use new media technologies in
the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
By Joe Murfitt – Group P1-14
2. Introduction
Throughout out music video production we used
various forms of technology to help make our
video as good as possible with some playing big
parts in the production that others.
In this slide show I will explain the technologies we
used and how we used the different technologies
and how they helped to improve our video.
3. Premier Pro
Premier pro was the technology that we used to piece
all of our footage together to make our final music
video. All members of our group used this and we all
had an input of how to use it to get the best effects
from it onto our music video. We used it by putting
each clip into the timeline on premier pro and then
cutting each one, with the cut tool, to how we liked it
or deleting it if we didn’t so that we had the best bits
of clips for our video.
We used a few effects on premier pro such as the
letterbox effect where there is two black bars along
the top of the screen which we did as it helps for the
video to have a professional look about it as well as
using it to colour correct our whole video to make the
colours stand out and to again help it look
professional. We also used it to put transitions from
shot to shot into our video which helped for the video
and therefore the narrative to flow. The picture on the
left shows the tool kit we mainly used when using
premier pro which included the cut tool, text tool and
mouse tool for movement of footage.
4. Photoshop
Photoshop is a tool that we only used for our two
ancillary tasks after we had finished our video which
were a magazine advert and a digipak for our artists
album. Photoshop allows you insert pictures and
add effects to them which make them look good and
you can tailor your effects to the outcome you are
looking for. In our magazine advert we used
photoshop by inserting a picture and then putting a
black background to help it stand out and then we
added a text which was also common throughout
our digipak onto it through the text tool. We used
photoshop more on our digipak as we had more
space to cover with our 6 panels to accommodate
for. We added a picture to each panel and then
edited them with various things such as text to two
of the panels, making a logo which we used in 3 of
the 6 panels as well as adding effects to the photos
such as black and white and also changing the
colour composition on some of the photos to give
our products a better effect.
6. Other Technologies
We used a few other technologies for our coursework with some being
more beneficial than others. We used the website www.blogger.com to
create a blog where we could publish and edit our coursework which
we found very beneficial as we could edit any post at any time by
clicking the edit button on any post and being able to make changes.
Only our group knew our login so we knew that it was only us who
could modify our work which was reassuring. We also used YouTube a
lot to help with our planning and research. We used it a lot to find
inspiration for our video and also to look at media conventions of
music videos which helped us when it came to making our final video
as for example we took a shot from a video we looked at on YouTube
and put it into our final cut, this shot was the performance shot from
the original video of the song we performed, Holes by Passenger.
8. Other Technologies continued
We also used Prezi and Slideshare to publish things we wanted to
about our video with prezi being helpful to show things more
visually. These two technologies helped us to present us various
things in a different manner which meant it was more interesting
for people to look at. Our equipment that we used was fairly basic
but was good enough for us to make a good quality video. The
camera allowed us to zoom, move it and to get different angles with
it as it was handheld but we also got steady shots by using a tripod
with it which kept the camera steady which helped us to get a good
look on many of our shots, mainly the performance ones. We also
had other bits of equipment such as a torch and a reflector which
helped us to add got bits of artificial light to shots which helped to
add effect to the shot as well as making it look more professional.
