2. Use this template to help you evaluate your project.
You should give specific details about your work.
You should provide both written and visual examples to explain your project.
You should find areas to praise in your work. Be specific about why you think they are
good or why you are proud of them.
You should also find areas that could be improved. Look for areas that you could make
better if you went back to them. Be specific about what you would improve.
Add additional slides as you need to. Don’t be restricted by what is here.
Any blank slides should be deleted before submission.
3. Does your final product reflect your
original intentions?
• Compare your planning/digital flat plans/
storyboards to your final product
my idea has changed from the start as I change the original story from jack the
giant killer to jack the ace killer and I changed the setting from medieval to ww2
so I changed the character from a peasant to a pilot to fit the settings but from
the digital flat plan not a lot of things changed the only thing that really changed
was the style of something's and I made it from 12 pages to 10 and changed the
faces to give them detail but still a cartoon style but for the most part it stayed the
same with the storyboard and it the same from the storyboard to final product as
it prity much stayed the same as when I got the idea of a ww2 story I didn't
change my mind from that the things that changed where styles and and quantity
of things like the pages but things like the themes and message hasn't change
from the start as both the original story and mine have the same idea of
overcoming giant odds but in the original he was fighting giants and that was
what he had to over come but in mine it him fighting agents not something that’s
really big but something that is more experienced then him a man in one of the
most powerful fighters of the time.

5. How well have you constructed your
images?
• How well have you constructed your images?
You could talk about the overall visual
appearance and well as the use of texture and
colour.
I think that I constructed my images well as the overall visual appearance is
good as it blends detail with cartoony simplicity when I was making it I used a
comic book style to make all the images but I do think that if I constructed
them differently I could make each plane look the same and all the colours
would be the same but I think my use of texture was ok as I added drop
shadows to make the clouds pop out and added a gradient overlay to make
the sun glow and for the plane I got 2 visions of the plane 1 rotoscope and
the other filter gallery then I overlay it to make a interesting style
6.
7. How well have you used text to anchor
your images
• You should talk about the combination of
words, images and text.
My text is anchored to my image as the text describes what's going on in the
image in a rhyming way and how the text is part of the image being in the
clouds for most of it makes the text almost part of the world so it give the
words a presence on the page
these are 3 example that use text and put that text in the images to make
them stand out one is from mine 2 are from a book called Cloudette by Tom
Lichtenheld as you can see all 3 of the images use the same style of make the
text stand out by being part of the world

9. Is your product suitable for your
audience?
• Reference your proposal
• Give an audience profile and describe
suitability in reference to content
My product is suitable for my audience as no one dies and even though there
open warfare it doesn't show death plus kids age 5 to 7 are in to the army so
having world war 2 is ok for my audience its not really for a female a as this
book has fighting in it and little girls don’t really like the army as much as boys
the secondary audience is parents they will be reading this for there kids.

11. What do you like/dislike about the
techniques you have used?
• Reference specific tools you used with images
I like the way in how I merged detailed image and simple cartoon versions of
the same image to make something not to detailed and not too simple but a
nice balance between the two I kinder dislike how I made it using magic wand
if I did it a different way I could of made it look a lot beater and make the
planes look alike this would of made my work consistent but because of the
way I did it I could not make all the planes look the same on each page but I
all I really like how I did my images as I think they capture the amazing look of
the planes I also like how I used colours to try to make all the planes look the
same I did this by using the same few colours and adding colours or removing
them if need be. I also like how I made the German cockpit black but still kept
a bit of a shadow so he seems very menacing. I also like what I did with the
backgrounds with the clouds and the sun how I used very simple images to
make them then used more complicate techniques to make them stand out.
12.
13. What do you like/dislike about how
your final product looks?
I like the look and style of my planes as how I did it gives them a detailed
comic book look witch I think looks really good on the planes and means am
able to make the planes look the same in each pages I don’t like how on the
images it looks a little messy I also kinder dislike the how some of the colours
are different from reason but I do like the colours I used as it makes parts of
the planes pop out like the yellow on the bf109 and the R.A.F symbols on the
spitfire I also like my backgrounds and how I made the background with
simple shapes but they still have enough detail with the drop shadows to
make them look a little more realistic
14.
15. Why did you include the content you
used?
• Images, fonts, effects, colours
I used the images so that I could make the planes a lot easier and a lot faster I
used the effects to make the planes look more effective and to add more
detail u used filter gallery to make the plane more simple but to keep some
detail then I overlaid the filter gallery one with the rotoscope one to make my
still. I used the colour to make all the planes look the same as I need them to
be consistent to how they look through out the book or it would look weird. I
didn't use any fancy font but I did put my text in the clouds to make them part
of the world to make them stand out more then they should normally

17. What signs, symbols or codes have
your used in your work?
• Choices of colour, style, locations, character
design and tone all give additional meaning to
your work.
I have some symbols in my work but there not old traditional symbols like
crown the symbols I use are more modern e.g. the spitfire is a symbol of
British pride, victory and the will to never give up I also use cods in my work
for example the enemy plane when first talked about is on a dark stormy
background making use think off evil I also use the setting of it as a symbol as
when we think back on ww2 as Brits we think of good verses evil but the
enemy is de humanised I show this by not showing the German ace at all in
the book but he is shown by a shadow in his cockpit as it shows not a full
understanding of the enemy.

19. Audience Responses
Cultural competence:
Media texts require us to have a certain level of cultural understanding to
be able to interpret them.
At a basic level, this could mean being able to read the language that a
magazine is written in.
At a deeper level, it means being able to interpret signs and symbols that
we use a visual shorthand to communicate ideas.
We recognise these signs in our own culture but find it harder to
understand when looking at others.
We create and attach meaning to signs and symbols in many different
forms.

20. Audience Responses
Cultural competence:
What is this?
This is a Norwegian Pine tree, covered in
snow and with a red ribbon on.
Our cultural understanding allows us to
interpret its meaning.
To us, in British society, it means
Christmas, presents and family.
This is because we share a cultural
knowledge.

21. Audience Responses
Cultural competence:
There are many other signs and symbols
that we attach meaning to.
A leather jacket can imply rebellion.
A sports car can imply wealth and power.
A cross can represent religion.

22. Audience Responses
Cultural competence:
Visual representations of everyday objects are often the same the world
over. A car appears as a car, no matter what country it appears in.
What that car means however, can be very different depending on your
cultural background.

23. What representations can be found in
your work?
• How are men, women or children shown in
your work? Does your work feature different
ages, races, social groups or religions? Does a
lack of any variety of character types create its
own representation?
It only has men and no other gender it has Brits and 1 German it has a lack of
representation as since its set in ww2 in the sky's it would not have women or
children and the only two races are the Brits and Germans I do this to be
historically accurate as in my opinion that is the most important part of doing
a book like this. Religion , social groups and races don’t get much or any
representation as the book is more focused on the two pilots and the war so
not mention of religion and I don’t think the army is a social group
24.
25. What style have you employed in your
products?
• Discuss influences/ existing products
• What visual style does your work have and
why did you choose it?
I use a semi realistic comic book look as I have said I used rotoscope and filter
gallery then overlaid them but I didn't get any influence from other books as I
found this style by chance when experimenting. My work has a comic style
but the planes have touches of realism with the detail and colours
unfortunately there next to none books that use rotoscope same goes for
comic books style so I don’t have any kids book to compare mine to but I can
compare the elements of the book to others
26.
27. What were the strengths and weaknesses
of the pre-production and planning
• How did the planning and research help
• How well did you manage your time
• Reference specific examples
My planning was very helpful has when it came to making my final product as
I could focuse on what to do and had a plan and this meant that it was less
time to make as I knew what I was doing, e.g. with the planning I was able to
get my images done on time. The research helped as it showed me what kids
books look like and the key elements and settings that they use. I think I that I
managed my time well as I got the work done on time with some time left to
spear e.g. the making images part of my work
28.
29. Historical and cultural context
• How does your work compare to what has come
before? What other similar products have existed
in the past? What current products exist?
My books story is a modern interpretation of jack the giant killer so shares a lot of
similarity's with the story its based as fare as I know there's not a lot of old fairy
tales being set in ww2 but as a peace of media it like most kids books with a big
bad guy as the enemy a one on one fight where the hero uses skill to destroy his
enemy. There a lot of important historical and cultural context in the setting I
picked as ww2 is a very important event in history and to us English ww2 is a very
important cultural thing as we fought in the battle of Brittan the battle for the
futer of Brittan and we where also bombed day and night by the German
Luftwaffe there aren't many similar products like mine for my age range but
there's a lot for a older range but they share a similar art style
