 Last year, many parents may remember Skip who entertained us all with his music at the Family Friendly
Schools Fun Day. He is currently working with a group of students to form a choir. Next term, we will
include students from the Nolan St Campus, who have a passion and talent for singing. This pilot program is
specially funded, with Comet Hill PS being one of the 3 schools, with very strict criteria and accountability.
We are negotiating our way one small step at time.
 ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL COMMUNITIES : this is a federally funded initiative. We are negotiating to
have extra funding to include the Nolan St campus, hopefully starting in term 3. For Term 2, the Holmes
Rd Campus will share half of the allocated numbers with Nolan St. Therefore, we will have 10 students
from each campus however, parents will need to find a way to bring students over to the Holmes Rd
campus. Activities this term have been swimming and bike riding. Term 2 activities will be Tuesdays P-2
Hip Hop Dancing, and Thursdays Yr 3-6 Soccer. More information about this next term. This is a FREE
    activity.
 END OF TERM 1 : how time has flown! Dismissal next Friday will be @ 2.30pm.
    Term 2 dates are:
Wednesday, 27th April to Friday, 1st July. Please note that student start on WEDNESDAY 27th because of
    Easter and Anzac day.
 LET’S CELEBRATE : MAKING BETTER CHOICES : HANDS OFF BLITZ. Students have been
making posters, gaining a better understanding of what this looks like and reminding each other. The theme
for celebration activities is ―Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds‖ on Friday 8th April @ 11.30. P-2 from both
campuses will be joining together and P-2 going to Lake Weeroona. (If there is wet weather, they will get
together at the Nolan St campus). Yr 3-6 will join together at the Nolan St Campus. Activities will include:
dancing, skipping, circus skills, bike riding, cooking /gardening. Parents are most welcome to join in and /or
    come and help.

 TEAM BENDIGO: MULTICULTURAL SPORTS
 CARNIVAL
27 students from Lightning Reef P.S were involved in the
Multicultural Sports Carnival on Tuesday, 30th March. The
carnival was a great success with students participating in a
range of sports including Soccer, Cricket, AFL and other
activities such as sac racing, 3 legged relay and egg and
spoon. It provided an excellent opportunity for students
from both campuses to come together as one community
under the Lightning Reef Primary School banner, whilst
also mixing with students from a range of other schools and
 culturally diverse backgrounds.

                                                                 (NOLAN STREET CAMPUS)

Come to school with “CRAZY HAIR” on Wednesday, 6th April and pay a gold coin donation to
raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Victoria.
Anything goes on “CRAZY HAIR DAY” teased, coloured, gelled or twisted, wigs and scarves,
 punk or just plain messy.
We are also having a yummy „sausage sizzle‟ (green order form went home earlier this week.)
Don‟t forgat to return the order by Friday, 1st April.
We need a few parents to help on the day with our BBQ lunch, if you are able to cook and/or
serve on the day, please leave your name at the Nolan Street Campus office.
Today we made Mind Maps about a Healthy
Body. The Mind Map had to be colourful and
we chose healthy things which were good for
our bodies. When we were doing the Mind
Maps we had to keep the branches as the
main ideas and the twigs were the sub ideas.
Nikiera Harvey Gr 6

Our grade have started to
use mind maps. Today’s topic
was Healthy Body Healthy
Mind. Mind Maps help us to
record our thoughts using
pictures and simple words.
Instead of pages and pages of
work you have one big map to
help you study.
