2. Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born in St. Joseph, Missouri on October
17, 1972), better known by his stage name Eminem, is an American
rapper, record producer, and actor. After obtaining a copy of the
album Licensed to Ill, from the Beastie Boys group, as a teenager,
Marshall became interested in hip hop, doing amateur raps at age 14
under the pseudonym "M & M".
3. Eminem was married twice to
Kimberley Anne Scott. They had a
daughter in 1995 and named her
Hailie Jade Scott Mathers . They
began a relationship in 1989 and
married in 1999. The couple divorced
the first time in 2001, but resumed
the union in January 2006. The
second divorce happened in
December of that year, after both
agreed to share custody of their
daughter, Hailie Jade Scott Mathers.
4. Eminem quickly gained popularity in 1999 with his album, The Slim
Shady LP, which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
His next work, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the best-selling solo
album in the United States history. That album made him known
worldwide, and helped to propagate his label, Shady Records, and his
group, D12.

Eminem won the Oscar for best original song with "Lose Yourself,"
which was present in his semi-biographical film 8 Mile.
"Lose Yourself" turned out to be the the single which occupied the
first position of the hip hop charts for the most time.
7. Including his work with D12, Eminem has 9 albums on top of the
Billboard Top 200, 7 solo (6 studio, 1 compilation) and 2 with D12. He
has 13 singles in the first position in the world. Such success awarded
Eminem with the Artist of the Decade by Billboard. According to
Billboard, the rapper had two of the five best-selling albums between
2000 and 2009 (The Eminem Show and The Marshall Mathers Lp).
