The Wave




                           A classroom experiment that went too far...

Tuesday, December 18, 12
There once
                                                     was a
                                                    history
                                                    class...


                                                   They learned
                                               so many interesting
                                                      things
                                                  that happened
                                                 a long time ago.

       However, most of them were just plain
                     bored...

But one history lesson
                                  changed everything...


                One day,
              the students
            learned about a                                  He took
           man called Hitler,                              children away
              and his army                                  from their
           called the Nazis...                                families,
                                                          and made them
          They learned                                        very sad.
             that he
      was a very bad man.
        He did many bad
        things to people
   that were different to him.

The students
           asked why he would
             do such things...




                                      But the teacher,
                                 Mr. Ross, could not answer.
                                   He did not know why.

But then, he
                           had an idea!

He decided to
           create a way of
     discipline called the Wave,
          where everyone
            had to follow,
      and respect the leader.




                                    This was to
                                     understand
                The same way            how
               the Nazis were         they felt
                 disciplined.      while they did
                                       those
                                   horrible things.

A few weeks
    after they started the
        experiment...




                                           It made them
             Everyone was
                                         feel like leaders.
          joining it, because
                                  And made those who felt like
          it made them feel
                                  they could do nothing, special
      so special, and confident.

Even Mr. Ross
              deeply enjoyed it.



          He liked the feeling
           of being a leader.


         He liked the power
         that came with him
         being the creator of
             The Wave...

But soon, people
               began to feel
              TOO confident...




      They were so deep          But unaware of this, Mr. Ross
   into the Wave, they began
      to hurt others who
                                      still kept the Wave
       weren’t part of it.                   going...

Two students, Laurie and David,
   who saw the Wave for what it was
              becoming.
      They explained to Mr. Ross
            how the Wave
       was getting out of hand.




                                      They were afraid that
                                      more people will start
                                          to get hurt.

The principal, Mr. Owens, also noticed
        student’s wrongdoings
           due to the Wave,
       and had to listen to their
         parent’s complaints.




                                          He also was angry
                                        with Mr. Ross, and told
                                         him to do something
                                     about it, and save the students
                                                from harm.

But under all
                       this pressure,
                 Mr. Ross thought of a plan.

He decided to
         have a gathering
    for all the Wave members



        The Wave members
     thought it would be about
        how the Wave could
     govern the whole school!

                                 But in fact...

It was to tell
      them how they
      were too caught
      up in the Wave.




           He showed              He talked to them
                                   about how they
          the students
                                  were becoming like
            the film              the Nazis. How they
        about the Nazis         would hurt a non-wave
     they watched before.      member; and how similar
                            that was to what the Nazis did.

To wrap up
             the assembly,
        Mr. Ross apologizes too.




                                        After all, the
                                         whole point
                                         of the Wave
          He apologizes for           was to have their

When the
     assembly was over,
        many people
          were sad,
        and shocked.




                              However, they
                           did learn a valuable
                                  lesson.

Because they felt
            powerful joining
             the Wave, they
           felt that everyone
                should be
             a part of it; and
             harmed anyone
               who wasn’t.       They learned that power
                                 should not influence how
                                    they treat others.
