2. Portals / discovery systems: fighting heterogenity
Even if data formats of different sources are adjusted:
different authorities – or none at all
Common problem – but:
research is normally very specfic to the “own” system, and may be
difficult or impossible even there (no direct access to the data in
commercial discovery systems)
Availability of large-scale data for research a desideratum

3. EconBiz – Search portal for economics and
business studies
• 10 million publications (mostly books
and articles)
• Multiple different sources (ZBW,
USB Cologne, RePEc, …)
• Data with very heterogeneous
shapes and states of authority control
(STW, GND, JEL and other
classifications, author keywords …)
• Full control over the data (metadata
framework, API)

4. The EBDS research data set
• A lean dataset for experiments and research
• not a comprehensive data publication in RDF
• selection of fields
• JSON-LD format for easy processing (not restricted to LOD tools)
• Focused on one subject area (economics), providing a relatively
dense network of links and linking opportunities
• Data consistently prepared …
• with all available LOD links to other entities (subjects, persons,
institutions, series, journals, …)
• Strings for the same kind of entities which are not linked properly
• Hopefully under an open license (in progress)
