B. Motivation
Good morning class, today we are going to
have an activity. I am going to group you into
two.
Ok, count off. So each group will stay
together. You are going to have a simple
debate on what are you going to choose
between your studies or your love. So may I
ask the group leader to pick each topic. I am
going to give you three minutes to discuss, and
we will only allow three speakers for each
group to defend.
(After the activity)
Ok, very good. You have your own point
of view regarding these matters, but it depends
upon the situation if what are you going to
choose.
Based on the activity a while back, did you
ever try choosing between your studies and
your love?
Yes, can you share your experience.
What did you feel about this situation?
So, how did you spend your remaining
days with your love when you chose to study
rather than choosing him?
Ok, today we are going to discuss a short
story entitled “Rainbow By The Sea” and let
us learn on how the main characters spent the
remaining days despite of the fact that one of
them will be away.
( Group discussion)
( Activity)
Yes, ma’am.
I feel sad.
We talked together.
But before that let us unlock these words, so
I need ten volunteers to find the meaning of
these words.
Words to be unlock:
1. pouted
2. well
3. suckling
4. stamp
5. tenants
6. heiress
7. trousseau
8. luscious
9. grandeur
10. waded
Ok, now that you have identified the
meaning of these words. Kindly read them.
I know that you already read the story
entitled “Rainbow By the Sea”. So the same
group while back you are going to identify the
events in the story. So the number of the
paragraphs were written on the manila paper
which I am going to give you. So you will just
write the events on the paragraphs which are
cited. I am going to give you ten minutes to do
that.
( Number of paragraphs identified:
1,2,3,4,6,7,8,11,13,15,17)
Ok, let’s go through the paragraphs.
On the first paragraph, what do you think is
the feeling of the main character?
So on the second paragraph, what do the
main characters doing?
What did the young man do, to the young
woman?
So when the young woman grasped and
cried out loud, what did her sister do?
On paragraph three, they were told to go to
the sea to get suckling pig.
What was their feeling when they were told
to go to the sea to get suckling pig?
Yes, they were happy for they could spend
their time together.
What happened in the fourth paragraph?
Yes, the young man described his love.
Ok, in the sixth paragraph what did the
young man realize?
a. to walk through water
b. nobility
c. brides outfit
d. a person who receives property or a title
after the death of the owner
e. people who occupy rented property
f. to strike the foot noicely
g. animal who still feeds on its mother’s breast
h. spring of water
i. to look sulky
Sad.
Looking their faces into the well.
He pulled her hair.
She scolded them.
They were happy.
The young man described his love.
He realized what it would mean to be away
Yes, the young man realized that would
miss the place and his love. It was also stated
here that they went to the farm together during
the previous weeks, the young man expressed
his love and the young woman sang a song for
him.
On the next paragraph, what do you think
are the characteristics of the people in the
story, especially when they threw their
meaningful glances and smiles to the lovers?
In paragraph 8, they walk through the
fields until they reached the sea.
What happened in paragraph 13?
While waiting for the suckling pig, which
the tenants are getting the lovers walk to the
sea together.
In paragraph 15, what did the young man
remember?
Yes, he remembered that he will be away
with his love the next day, and he feels
sadness.
When his love saw his sadness, what did she
do?
Ok, she convinced the young man to play
with the waves, she wanted that the young man
will also laugh.
So, they keep on laughing as cited in
paragraph 16.
And on the last paragraph, what is the reason
why the house of the young woman still
awake?
So, if you are the woman in the story, would
you still laugh even you know that your love
will leave you?
What do you think is the reason why the
young woman in the story laughed even her
love will leave him?
Isn’t it that if one of our loved ones will
leave, we will feel sad, but the young woman
in the story laughed so the story wants us to
spend our days with the people whom we love
with happiness.
D. Enrichment Activity
I am going to group you into two. You are
with his love.
They are friendly.
They were walking together on the sea.
He remembered that he will be away with his
love.
She ask the young man to play with the waves.
There is heart ache inside them.
No, I will be sad.
Maybe because she wants that her love will not
feel so sad.
going to show a short role play showing the
reasons why lovers separate and on how to
move on despite of the separation. I am going
to give you five minute to practice with your
group.
