This PowerPoint shows Garr Reynolds Top Ten Tips for a effective PowerPoint presentation.
Tip #1. Keep it Simple. The slides are not what’s most important. The information that you are trying to convey to the audience is the most important.
Tip #2. Limit bullet points & text. Everyone can simply read your slides, but that is not the point of the presentation. Limiting text also makes your audience pay closer attention to what you are saying. It’s also less boring!
Tip #3. Limit transitions & builds (animations). Overuse of any thing can be distraction, especially animations. Don’t get me wrong, animations have their uses, but please use them sparingly.
Tip #4. Use high-quality graphics. Nothing looks more unprofessional than a pixilated image on a presentation. Always choose a high resolution photo.
Tip #5. Have a visual theme, but avoid using PowerPoint templates. Make sure your presentation has a common visual theme, but avoid using premade templates that we have all seen a million times.
Tip #6. Use appropriate charts. Do not put a chart in your presentation that overwhelms the audience with information. Keep the charts simple and easy to understand.
Tip #7. Use color well. The correct use of color in your presentation can go a long way. The right color can help persuade and motivate.
Tip #8 Choose your fonts well. Fonts are extremely important and also subtle. Use the same fronts throughout your presentation and a few variations.
Tip #9. Use video or audio. Using audio and video can help keep your audience awake and engaged in your presentation.
Tip #10. Spend time in the slide sorter. Make sure your presentation is organized and flows in an orderly fashion.
