Many Basques emigrated from their homeland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with some going to South America, some to Central America like Mexico and Cuba, and some to North America. In the United States, many Basques settled in Idaho and Nevada, working mainly as shepherds, with Boise, Idaho becoming an important city for the Basque community where a large Basque festival is now held every four years.
