Media Center Modifications
Another large area rug can be placed in the back corner
that is strictly more for secluded class lessons.
More computers can be purchased for the computer
area.
The bookshelves and materials can be clean and
“weeded” out so that there are not as many
bookshelves. Therefore, more area can be used for
seating for both staff and students.
The teacher workroom can have new supplies added
occasionally and can be kept neat and tidy with the
help of the staff.
Media Center Policies
 The current media center
 policies are listed in blue.
 The modifications or exceptions
to the policies are written in
 red.
Media Center Policy
                    Accessibility
Media Center is available for students and teachers
from 7:30-7:55 and 8:00-12:00 and 12:30-2:55 each
day.
Media Specialist operates on a flexible schedule and
will help teachers and students with resources when
capable.
The media specialist or media clerk will be available
at ANY time during the school day when a resource
is needed.
Media Center Policy
             Organizing and Staffing
A media committee is formed each school year
that consists of a volunteer from each grade level.
The committee will meet throughout the year to
discuss library issues, programs, and activities.
Some parents will be asked to be on the
committee.
Media Center Policy
               Challenged Material
In the event of challenged material, one
parent, one principal, and one faculty member
non-representative of a classroom will join the
group to review the complaint and take action.
If a specific material is challenged, a form will be
filled out and the meeting will be held as soon as
possible and action will be taken.
Media Center Policy
                       Books
The loan period of a book is 2 weeks.
Students may check out 2 books at a time.
One book must be a chapter book and one a shorter
book.
Discretion on the types of books is left up to the
individual teacher.
Media Center Policy
                Reference Materials
Reference materials are to be used by students in
the library media center.
Teachers may borrow reference materials for use in
the classroom when necessary.
If the media specialist deems it necessary, the
student may take the reference materials back to
his or her classroom with teacher permission.
Media Center Policy
               Audio/Visual Materials
Students are not allowed to checkout AV materials
without special permission.
Students may use audio/visual materials in the
library media center to make up a class assignment.
Teachers may check out materials at any time for
use in the classroom.
Anyone may use or checkout AV materials when
necessary with permission from the media
specialist.
Media Center Policy
              Faculty Checkouts
Faculty may check out unlimited numbers of
materials as long as needed.
Faculty members must return the materials
not being used as soon as possible so that
other teachers and students can have access.
Media Center Policy
         Overdue Books and Fines
Overdue slips and fine notices will be printed
out and distributed to students at school.
Overdue slips and fines must be paid within 6
weeks after the book is overdue or lost.
Media Center Policy
                  Lost and Damaged Books
If a book is lost or damaged, the book must be paid for
before additional books can be checked out.
Payment for a lost book is reimbursed should the book be
found and returned in good condition.
Debts remaining at the end of the school year will be
turned into the office.
If the media specialist/faculty member knows the child
cannot find the book or cannot pay to replace the
book, the charge will be forgiven.
Media Center Policy
               Selection Policy
The selection of the BCES media center is
based on the knowledge of the curriculum
and the corresponding GPS.
The teachers are also encouraged to suggest
any special selections they feel will benefit the
media center.
Media Center Policy
          Media Center Computers
Computers are to be used for curriculum
research ONLY. Any other sites are prohibited.
Anyone caught on any other websites will be
banned from the computers unless with adult
supervision.
