2. •The Personal Development, Health and Physical education K-6 Syllabus
(2007) states in its rationale sub-introduction that, “...health is the
responsibility of all parts of society.” (p.6)
• The syllabus states its aim as the development of knowledge, skills,
values and attitudes needed to live healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
Its not just
‘SPORT’
3. It’s not just
Academic
•KLA’s or Key Learning Outcomes form the basis of
achievement measure in PDH/PE, but here’s something
you might not know...It’s about healthy, social, safe and
interpersonal improvements.
•The methods of measurement may be thought of as
amount of happiness and command of our bodies.
4. The ultimate
goal
Just an example of some outcomes of achievement in PDH/PE are:
Uses positive talk to encourage others
Helps others to achieve set tasks
Develops a plan to increase shade in the playground
Participates in physical activity programs based on personal goals
Moves safely when sharing combined space with others
The list goes on!
Clearly the desired achievements in PDH/PE are the health, happiness and safety of all
children
Awesome!
5. Why I am all for
PDH/PE
There is a multitude of reasons that I believe PDH/PE is the ultimate
subject: (zoom for easier readability )
It’s benefits are applicable to happiness and healthiness which feeds other academic endeavours.
The ‘active’ portion of educating and teaching builds confidence, interest and interaction.
The majority of syllabus requirements are based on the ‘positive’ contributions to the subject.
Communication, decision making, interacting, movement and problem solving are all incredibly valuable life skills in the attainment
of any goals.
The subject of PDH/PE focuses on positive relationships in society through interaction with others via ‘self’ which is integral to all
facets of life.
