God’s plan of reconciliation - 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
17. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:16-21
(NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)
16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human
point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely
from a human point of view. How differently we know
Him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to
Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a
new life has begun!
18. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:16-21
(NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)
18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to
Himself through Christ. And God has given us this task
of reconciling people to Him. 19 For God was in Christ,
reconciling the world to Himself, no longer counting
people’s sins against them. And He gave us this
wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are
Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal
through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come
back to God!”
19. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:16-21
(NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)
21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the
offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with
God through Christ.
20. MESSAGE: “OUR MOTIVATION”
18b . . . And God has given us this task of reconciling
people to Him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the
world to Himself, no longer counting people’s sins
against them. And He gave us this wonderful message
of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors;
God is making His appeal through us. We speak for
Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
It’s an honor to be with you this morning.
Thank you, Pastor Mike, for the invitation.

I am excited to share a little about the WCBA and offer a short message entitled “Our Motivation” from 2 Cor 5
(Greetings from the WCBA, intro my family, myself)
NEXT: DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS REPORT
1. I’m new, yet excited about what God is presently doing and what He is going to do in the future in and through the West Central Baptist Association.
2. We have a lot to work on – the search committee was accurate when they shared the current challenges we are faced with as an association.
3. The good news for our situation is that WE’RE NOT DOING THIS ALONE . . .
1 John 4:4-6
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
4. One Word: TRACTION . . . The WCBA is gaining traction! Praise the Lord!
5. We have a lot to do, so churches from the association are beginning to WORK TOGETHER, WITH GREAT COMMISSION INTENT, FOR THE SAKE OF THE KINGDOM AND FOR HIS GLORY!
6. Our greatest need is PRAYER!

Two areas to which we, the WCBA, MUST give our UNDIVIDED ATTENTION.
1. Prayer Warriors and Walkers, Trained Evangelizers (This can be YOU!)
2. July 23 3-Minute Story and Bracelet Evangelism Training, Location: Friendship Baptist, West on 50, Host and Facilitator: Greg Ballowe, . . . Prayer Warrior and Walker Training, Monday, May 9, 7PM, at a central location.
3. We need to be well-represented!
1. Openness to work together among our leaders and our churches (church revitalization, church planting, evangelism, missions, youth, family ministry, area multi-church gatherings, training events, etc.)
2. Pastors and Leaders gathering on a regular basis (and NOT just at our monthly luncheons) . . . Pockets of WCBA and other pastors seeking to do Kingdom work together
3. Things like the BSU, our new Church Plants – Living Water Clinton, Pillar Church, Valor Church, strong internal leadership (moderator team, officers, group/team leaders, etc.) . . .
4. Probably the most exciting God-sighting is seeing young leaders emerging within the WCBA. God has given us some great young men . . . Our church planters (Coppenbarger, Dyer, Yoder), staff members like Brett Bullard, Mark and Nic, Chris Bass, Brian Arant, Mitch Grainger, Corey Chaplain, the campus pastors with Living Water, Gary VanLanker, Mike Johns, Dave, and James in the north, and others, and pastors like (and I know I’ll leave someone out) David Percival, John Cox, Travis Webb, Brian Classen, Mason Maherg, Devin Hackler, Craig Coppenbarger, Atticus Dyer, Dan Yoder, and others.
5. What God-sightings are you seeing?

LET’S UNPACK VERSES 5:18-20
1. WE have the TASK of reconciliation (reconciling people to Him)
Def of “reconciliation” (Baker’s Dictionary of Theology) - Reconciliation comes from the Greek family of words that has its roots in allasso [ajllavssw]. The meaning common to this word group is "change" or "exchange." Reconciliation involves a change in the relationship between God and man or man and man. It ASSUMES there has been a BREAKDOWN in the relationship, but now there has been a change from a state of enmity and fragmentation to one of harmony and fellowship. In Romans 5:6-11, Paul says that before reconciliation we were powerless, ungodly, sinners, and enemies; we were under God's wrath (v. 9). Because of change or reconciliation we become new creatures. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" ( 2 Cor 5:17 ). SO, just like Paul, WE are have the task of reconciling people to God. This assumes RESPONSIBILITY.
2. WE SHARE the message of reconciliation – the wonderful message that God the Father no longer counts the sins of humanity against them, because of the atoning blood of His Son on the Cross.
3. WE are AMBASSADORS of reconciliation – God’s representatives, His spokespersons, delegates, couriers
We are HIS ambassadors, carrying the message of RECONCILIATION!
So, our motivation as believers, especially in relation to the task of Disciple-Making, comes from the Wonderful Message of Reconciliation – God desiring all to “come back to an intimate relationship with Him”
