3. Education system in the Czech Republic
Education includes these stages:
• Pre - school
• Primary school
• Secondary school
• Higher school
The school year starts on 1st September and
ends on 30th June
4. Pre - school
Nursery schools and kindergartens
For children aged three to six.
5. Primary school
For children aged six to fifteen
Elementary school, primary school
It has two stages:
– 1st
– 5th
grade (for 6 - 11 years old)
– 6th
– 9th
grade (for 12 - 15 years old)
Students do not wear uniforms
6. Secondary education
Grammar schools or Technical/Special schools
It lasts for four years and finishes with a
school-leaving examination, which we call
maturita
7. University
Student must choose a field of study
University studies can last from 3 to 5 years
Student becomes bachelor, master or doctor
Our famous university is Charles University

Education includes these stages:
• Kindergartens
• Primary school
• Secondary school
• Universities
9. Secondary education
For students between 11 and 16
When they are 16, all studenst have to take
GCSE exams (General Certificate of
Secondary Education)
But if they want to study at a university they
have to stay two more years and take the „A-
level“ an exam taken in two or three subjects.
10. Public schools
For children aged 11 to 19
They are private and very expensive
Students wear uniform
11. Universities
First-degree courses usually last 3 or 4 years
Qualification is Bachelor
Some students continue to study for Masters
degrees for more years
Cambridge and Oxford University
12. Education system in the USA
Each of 50 states has its own laws regulating
education
There are two types of schools:
• Public school
• Private school
15. Secondary education
Middle schools – from the age of 11 to 14
High schools:
• Junior High – 12 to 15 years
• High School – 15 to 18 years
Education is finished in the age of 18

Universities and colleges
Usually lasts 4 years
Extremely hard and selective
There are two tests: SAT and ACT
Very difficult and very expensive
