One other way to solve it … Number of oranges left = x Number of apples left = 2x Number of pears left = 2x – 15  x + 2x + 2x – 15 = 90 5x = 105   x = 21 Number of pears left = 2 x 21 – 15 = 27 Number of pears at first = 38 + 27 = 65 Number of oranges at first = 65 Number of oranges used = 65 – x = 65 – 21 = 44
