Anna at the Battle of San
Jacinto. In 1845 Texas
became an Independent

The U.S. Army has maintained a presence in the Alamo City since 1845. During that time, the installation has performed five distinct
and important roles: that of a headquarters, logistical base, mobilization and training site, garrison and provider of medical support. At
first, the Army leased facilities in the City of San Antonio, including the Alamo. In fact, the Army repaired the Alamo structure and added
a roof so it could be used as a headquarters. In 1876, the Army began to move its facilities to the present site of Fort Sam Houston
upon completion of the Quadrangle. The post has since increased in size from the original 92 acres donated to the Army by the city, to
approximately 3,000 acres today.

Karst Aquifer
The Edwards Aquifer is a karst aquifer and is
characterized by the presence of sinkholes, sinking
streams, caves, large springs, and highly productive
water wells. Karst aquifers are considered triple
permeability aquifers - water is contained in the rock
matrix, in fractures and faults, and in caves and
conduits.
Conduits or solution channels within the Aquifer range
from the size of a finger to 10’s of feet in diameter.
The interconnected fractures and conduits in the
Edwards Aquifer accounts for its extremely high
yielding wells and springs.

Edwards Aquifer (the “Edwards Aquifer” or “Aquifer”) in
south-central Texas is one of the most productive

Antonio, November 18, 2015, #Core4.
CHANGE:
•  The world. –Ben
•  The number of terrorists in the world.
•  I want to end war and the world will be
together… For the world to work together
and live better.
•  The change I want is better schools and a
criminal justice class.
•  I want more people in homes and not on
street.
•  I’d change education, I’d change the way
we view people.
•  I want peace in San Antonio and for my
future to be fun and safe.

WHAT IS YOUR STORY?
Calling all storytellers.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics in San Antonio is CORE4—
transforming existing situations to
preferred situations. The Alamo City story
of innovation begins a long, long, time
ago. Today, we are all part of a story that
began 11,000 years ago. Scientists,
technologists. teachers, artists, poets,
architects, aviators, doctors, researchers,
actors, photographers, architects—we are
all part of the story, past, present, and
future.

  • 24. THE FUTURE IS HERE Karst Aquifer The Edwards Aquifer is a karst aquifer and is characterized by the presence of sinkholes, sinking streams, caves, large springs, and highly productive water wells. Karst aquifers are considered triple permeability aquifers - water is contained in the rock matrix, in fractures and faults, and in caves and conduits. Conduits or solution channels within the Aquifer range from the size of a finger to 10’s of feet in diameter. The interconnected fractures and conduits in the Edwards Aquifer accounts for its extremely high yielding wells and springs. The San Antonio Segment of the Balcones Fault Zone Edwards Aquifer (the “Edwards Aquifer” or “Aquifer”) in south-central Texas is one of the most productive aquifers in the United States. http://www.edwardsaquifer.org/scientific-research-and-reports/edwards-aquifer-overview
