  1. ScienceDirect is the essential information resource for millions of researchers, scientists, engineers, professionals and students. It features more than a quarter of the world’s electronic collection of science, technology, medicine and social sciences full-text, peer-reviewed articles. More than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals, an expanding suite of backfiles (titles loaded from Volume 1, Issue 1), as well as a growing range of authoritative books, including reference works, handbooks, book series and monographs, are available on ScienceDirect. Prestigious titles include The Lancet, Cell, Tetrahedron Letters, the Handbooks in Economics series and the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Users can access more than 10 million full-text articles from all fields of science. Most journal articles become available on ScienceDirect immediately after peer review and before the printed versions are issued. The Articles in Press program offers rapid access to recently accepted articles. Additionally, users gain online access to features not available in print, such as cross-publisher linking via CrossRef, and multimedia features, such as video, audio and supplementary spreadsheet files.
  2. ScienceDirect offers a dedicated image search with e.g., links to its location within the source article to easily understand the context. Users save time by not having to scan complete articles to find relevant images (e.g. figures, photos, tables, and videos)
  3. Related articles from Reference Works are offered on the right hand side of an article in order to connect essential and fundamental information from reference works on SciVerse ScienceDirect. In that way users can easily access related basic knowledge for broadening their perspective or better understanding a new and unfamiliar topic.Reference Work Helper links to relevant reference works on ScienceDirect directly connected to a selected article
  4. For Life Science users SciVerse ScienceDirect offers articles enriched with contextual information on proteins, genes and small molecules as assembled by European Molecular Biology Laboratory’s service Reflect. Reflect recognizes proteins, genes and small molecules from web pages, and link them to information-rich summaries. These can now be found directly from within the SciVerse ScienceDirect article.
  5. Users can now access enriched content in the fields of life sciences, health sciences and chemistry. Following the recent integration of NextBio on ScienceDirect, researchers are able to delve more deeply into their research topic, leading to greater productivity and scientific discovery. The NextBio platform connects highly heterogeneous data and textual information in the fields of life science, health science, and chemistry. The semantic framework is based on gene, tissue, disease and compound ontologies. This framework contains information from multiple resources that is integrated into and correlated within a single searchable environment using proprietary algorithms. The in-context pop-up allows the researcher to quickly gain an overview of the article from the perspective of their chosen term, and to quickly link through to other information.

  8. The refine result box in Scopus has been moved to the left-side panel in order to be consistent among products (SciVerse, ScienceDirect, & Scopus). We’re aligning the design of our sites to make it easier for customers to navigate through the sites – no need to re-learn!
  9. Improved usability and user satisfaction of the Refine Result feature in SciVerse Scopus by allowing users to see a preview of the top 20 results for the particular filtering element they are considering before they actually click on it. Additionally, the Refine table can be exported for analysis. We’ve added a contextual box to the Refine Results feature allowing you to see up-front what results may be included or excluded based on the options you choose. As well, you’ll notice that the related articles link has been moved to a more prominent place so that you can find relevant cross-disciplinary articles more easily. For those of you with access to both SciVerse Scopus and Embase, you’ll no doubt appreciate the newly added links between the two products which allow you to link directly - with a single click - from a record in Scopus to the same record in Embase (a specialized database for biomedical research).
  10. Improve the visibility and utilization of the Scopus Related Document feature with one button click
  11. Last but not least, we’ve added a new tab to Journal Analyzer so that you can see how many review articles appear in a particular journal. Previously this information was only available via an advanced search but since it can be particularly useful in assessing the quality of a journal we decided to make it more readily available.Percentage of documents in the year that are review articles.
