When beginning to write an essay everyone has their own method of doing so. Some may like to
brainstorm while others may prefer to go straight into writing about their topic. I personally
beginning every essay by collecting ideas about my topic before coordinating them into a type of
diagram, next I proceed to do my rough draft before revising over the paper and finally composing
my final draft. The point of the writing process is to help break everything down so ideas can be
organized and everything can make perfect sense for not just the writer but also the reader.

Proofreading and revising is a very crucial step in the writing process. If a person does not
proofread then the essay they worked on may not make sense and may overall confuse the reader.
Using correct punctuation shows how sentences are supposed to be read. Once I have made sure
all my sentences are grammatically correct I then compose my final copy of the essay. Writing
can be difficult if not done correctly. That is why there is a writing process to follow. Using some
type of way to group ideas together help coordinate how the essay will go. Then once the ideas are
put together the rough draft can be formed and edited. After everything has been writing accordantly
the essay can then be turned in. Some may think the writing process is just some more additional

2. I have been studying and learning English for more than 11 years, and of course, I am willing to
do my best to improve its. However, whatever I did, writing skill still is my biggest weakness. For
me, during the writing process, thinking up the ideas for a specific topic and expressing those are a
real problem. However, after finished English 905 class, my writing skill has been changed
significantly. That class has offered me the ability to be aware of my personal strengths as well as

the ideas than other people. After fifteen or twenty minutes of warming up, my head is overloaded
because of too much information appears at the same time and I don't know how to organize it.

3. English Reflection Paper
Being able to learn what it takes to succeed in a college level class will be a great tool for me to use
when I am continuing my education at a four year university. English 101 was my first college
level English class and was definitely an eye opening experience. I was able to see what my
professors will expect from my work, while also growing as a writer. Even though this was a life
altering experience, I did have some frustrations and struggles along the way. The quick deadlines
and flexible topic choices posed a problem for me. However, some of the essays assigned have
turned out to be some of my favorite writings that I have ever produced. This past semester has
allowed me to create an extensive writing portfolio filled with my journey of writing growth.
Having class only two days a week was a new and interesting setup. The deadlines approached
more quickly than expected, and I believe that is because of the unfamiliarity I had with the class
setup. In my high school English classes, I was use to everyday instruction, and being able to work
on my assignments during class. While writing my first paper, "Lefties: The People Who Are Still
There When Things Are Not Right," I struggled the most with the deadlines. This new journey made
me realize that I needed to change how I complete my assignments. More time writing at home was

4. Gwen Wilde's essay "Why the Pledge of Allegiance Should Be Revised" highlights key reasons
why the Pledge of Allegiance should be changed to be less divisive towards Americans who do not
believe in a God. Wilde begins her essay by informing the audience of the countless alterations the

7. How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the
skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at
grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further
on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the
poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of
expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult

and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I

8. Cesar Chavez Rhetorical Analysis
Cesar Chavez, a civil rights leader fighting for improving pay and working conditions of farmers,
employs the use of nonviolence resistance in his role as a leader of the United Farm Workers. As
a child, Chavez and his family worked as farmers on a field as migrant workers who were most
likely treated in an unjust manner and thus, he dedicated his life to improving the conditions for all
farmers. To honor Martin Luther King Jr. on the 10th anniversary of his death, Chavez wrote to a
religious magazine that helps people in need about the benefits of nonviolent resistance. Throughout
his letter, Chavez applies rhetorical devices such as pathos, diction, and juxtaposition to persuade
and inform people about how powerful and effective nonviolence techniques can be for civil rights.

Chavez builds a connection and empathy with the readers and persuades them to be people who
fight for causes nonviolently. In the sixth paragraph Chaves states that, "men and women who are

Throughout this semester, I have personally developed and improved as a writer, through the
weekly writing tasks set for the writers Journal. This procedure of composing Journal entries and

10. Powder by Tobias Wolff Essay
Powder Powder, a short story written by Tobias Wolff, is about a boy and his father on a
Christmas Eve outing. As the story unfolds, it appears to run deeper than only a story about a boy
and his father on a simple adventure in the snow. It is an account of a boy and his father's
relationship, or maybe the lack of one. Powder is narrated by a grown–up version of the boy. In this
tale, the roles of the boy and his father emerge completely opposite than what they are supposed to

He likes to plan far in advance even to the point of bothering his teachers for future homework
assignments and numbering his clothes on hangers so the schedule of wear is equal. It is very
common for children to exhibit some controlling behavior like the boy in the story because it gives
the child a small piece of control in their own life. ("Brain Psychics") This is due to the lack of
control on their parents' relationship and the inability to control separation and divorce. This is quite
believable and allows the reader to relate to this situation, especially if a divorced single parent or
one who was a child that grew up in a divorced home. The first feeling of this story is that the boy
and his father struggle with their relationship, but as it unfolds, the reader sees how they do care for
each other. It also becomes easier to spot the difficulties of communicating within a brokenfamily.
The father does a fine job to of turning the boy's scheduling obsessions into a positive for the boy
by noting it as one of his strong points. This story also paints the picture of a father who would not
give up on regaining his time with his son. It shows the father desperately trying to rectify the
mistrust issues he created because he stated to the boy when they were sitting in the diner after the

This for me was a very hard question to answer due to the fact that its an opinion, and there are
very many types of writing. Different structures, ideas, metaphors, and concepts. You have to
remember to ask, whether the writing in itself is good in my point of view or not, has to answer to
my specific guidelines which in your case might not be the same. The first and foremost of the many

Obviously the reader wont stay keyed in if you aren't, but I'm talking about making sense in a way
where the reader can relate to you. Give an example of a situation that most people go through in
everyday life. The main idea that authors need to keep with them is the power of the authors words
relays only upon the reader.
Another huge element in good writing is production. You can be interesting, you can sound great,
but if your story is just not headed anywhere the reader will eventually lose focus and move on.
Even if you have many details surrounding your story, try to focus in on the ones that play key
roles. A lot of readers talk about how something happened more then why. I like to hear the reasons
for why rather then for how because if you already know the climax of the story you really wouldn't
wanna track your steps back, though informing the reader why can actually spice things up.
The biggest factor that plays in good writing in my opinion is how much emotion the writer puts into
his or her work. Honestly, a good reader will be able to tell how much effort was put into a
writing from the first couple of sentences. If the reader gets a sense of the writing trying to force
words into a sentence or trying to stretch out a page you will lose your reader right then and there.
If you honestly believe in what you are writing and have interest in the subject matter the reader
will be able to read between the lines and actually have a feeling of being there,

character's dishonesty may be intended to help or to hurt. Such a character, for example, may

never, never been guilty" (Williams 156–157). Blanche plainly contradicts herself when she admitted
earlier to her boyfriend that a deliberate act of cruelty on her part led to the death of her first

Writing is a skill that is learned, taught and most importantly dreaded by most students. This includes
students of all ages but however if you have trouble with writing or coming up with a thesis
statement you can always use the closed–open continuum. The closed–open continuum is a structure

The short story, "Roman Fever" by Edith Wharton, reveals numerous popular literary elements. Some
of the most prominent examples of literary elements are irony, symbolism, and foreshadowing. All
three elements create the feel and atmosphere of the short story. They add illustration, mystery, and
humor to the storyline.
The irony in "Roman Fever" begins when the two daughters refer to their mothers as "young
things". This is verbal irony because their two mothers were described as aged and...show more

This shows that she is different from your average middle–aged woman, and that she and Grace do
not have many things in common about their personality (Petry 1).When Alida Slade and Grace
Ansley are looking at their daughters having fun in the moonlight, and Grace says "And perhaps we
didn't know much more about each other", it shows that some drama is about to occur, and that she
knew she had things that Alida did not know about her, and also that perhaps Alida felt the same
way (Selina 1).
"Roman Fever" demonstrates countless excellent cases of irony, symbolism, and foreshadowing.
Different kinds of irony make "Roman Fever" entertaining during dialogue. Symbolism gives the
story deeper meaning in small actions, for instance knitting, and setting details. Foreshadowing in
the story baffles and intrigues. In conclusion, these are the three vital literary elements in Edith
Wharton's "Roman Fever". They capture the reader from the playful beginning to the jaw dropping
