Growing Up Essays
What does it mean to grow up? Does it mean washing your car, paying your bills, getting a job?
Does it mean getting married, having kids, and sprouting gray hair? Is it necessary? Is everyone
capable of it? Is it going to be hard and will it be worth the effort? All of these questions are
probably what made Peter Pan decide to never leave Neverland. Growing up means a lot of
different things to many different people. If we look at the words "growing up", we simply think
of the physical aspect of ageing, growing tall and wide. But for most people, growing up means
something deeper involving a change in the approach that an individual has to life and the actions
that are taken with it. In this essay, we will look at why people have...show more content...
They can't just be told. Mistakes are made and we are held accountable. Such mistakes could
include simple things when we are young like hitting your younger sibling, or they could be as
adults like not paying your bills. Sometimes, we have to make the mistake in order to be able to
correct it. We look at the mistake we made, for example, cheating on a test. We are pleased with
the score. However, we see that we did not receive the grade that was deserved. The other students
all put in long hours of studying and in turn earned their good grades. When something like this
happens an immature person would not think much of it and move on, but a person who has
grown spiritually into a person with morals will not feel comfortable with this result, and
probably not do it again. That is one form of growing up. It is important to feel responsibility for
the actions that have been taken. The next step is reacting in a productive way to that
responsibility. In order to assume responsibility, we have to have a sense of right and wrong
which is only naturally learned by living life. When responsibility is accepted, we have begun to
see the truth and reality of our situation, as Peck describes. Dedication to truth is heavily involved
with the concept of accepting responsibility because for people to see blame in themselves, they
have to have a clear plane of reality that shows the necessity of a solution from them. The eyes have

Solar Power Essay example
Solar Power
All life on Earth depends on energy from the sun. Solar energy is the source of energy for
photosynthesis. It provides the warmth necessary for plants and animals to survive. The heat from
the sun causes water on the Earth's surface to evaporate and form clouds that eventually provide
fresh rainwater.
Solar energy is the result of thermonuclear fusion reactions deep within the sun. These reactions
produce so much energy that they keep the surface temperature of the sun at about 10,300B0F. Even
though solar energy is the largest source of energy received by the Earth, its intensity at the Earth's
surface is actually very low due to the large distance between the Earth and the sun and the fact that
the Earth's atmosphere...show more content...
Because the intensity of the sun's radiation at the surface of the Earth is so low, collectors designed to
capture solar energy must be large.
In the sunniest parts of the continental United States, for example, in order for a collector to gather
enough energy to serve one person for one day, the area of the collector's surface must be about 430
square feet. The actual energy that can be used depends on the efficiency of the collector and of the
device that converts the radiation into usable energy.
Flat–plate collectors. The most common flat–plate collectors consist of a dark metal plate, covered
with one or two sheets of glass, that absorbs heat. The heat is transferred to air or water, called
carrier fluids, that flows past the back of the plate. This heat may be used directly or it may be
transferred to another medium. Flat–plate collectors are used for home and hot–water heating.
Flat–plate collectors typically heat carrier fluids to temperatures ranging from 150B0 to 200B0F.
The efficiency of such collectors varies from 20 to 80 percent.
Concentrating collectors. When higher temperatures are required, a concentrating collector is used.
These collectors reflect and concentrate sunlight from a wide area.
One such device, called a solar furnace, was installed in the Pyrenees in France and has several
acres of mirrors focused on a single target. The energy concentrated at

When I Grow Up..
"Being 'grown up' isn't as fun as the idea of growing up."
–AmberGrace Seguin
Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do
'grownup' things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally
'grew up', and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven't made up our mind of
what it is we will do when we grow up. We've painted this pretty little picture in our head of what
it'll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off
the wall and put into action, it's not nearly as fun as creating the painting.
"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional."
–Anonymous

"The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he
forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise." –Alden Nowlan
As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once
convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once
we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh
because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than
ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to
become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it
any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it.
"A grownup is a child with layers on." –Woody

Hook Feminism Essay
Feminism is for everyone explains the emotional encounters of the struggles and challenges faced by
the feminist movement. The experiences of the feminist movement helped shaped a strong case that
the inclusion of men is required within the movement. One main goal of the feminist movement is to
end all forms of sexism, sexist exploitations, and oppression (Hook). The key argument that Hook
makes throughout her novel is that feminism is about creating a world free of sexism. The only way
to make this possible is by having both males and females fight to end sexist causes.
The patriarchal society is based on powers in relationships–whether that power is men over women,
bosses over their workers and even parents over their children. Relationships

Argumentative Essay Hook
The important points of the video to properly write an argumentative essay. They are five most
important parts to write in an argumentative essay. They are the hook, background information,
counter–claim, and the claim and evidence. The most important is the hook, which will grab the
reader's attention. In the hook you shouldn't ask questions but add a quote from a credible source,
also include a provoking idea. The background information gives the audience all the information
they need to understand what you are writing about. Don't forget to use TASC, using the title and
author. If you use difficult words, write them in a simpler way so the reader can understand them. A
must is to give the reader everything they need to know about your topic.

Multiple Intelligences Essays
Multiple Intelligences
Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these
experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone's different
multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they
gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles,
so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods. Howard Gardner, a
professor at Harvard, introduced his theory of multiple intelligences in 1983. Multiple intelligence's
is a theory about the brain that says human beings are born with single intelligence that cannot be
changed, and is measurable by a...show more content...
The bodily kinesthetic learner can often be a problem causer in the classroom. This person has
problems sitting still and even does their best work will up and moving around. Activities that
involve movement are the best way for these learners to absorb information. They often excel in
physical education and enjoy becoming involved in sporting activities. The second most common
intelligence is logical mathematical. It involves the ability to use numbers, logic, and reason. These
learners learn conceptually, in logic and number patterns. Includes inductive and deductive reasoning
skills, as well as critical and creative problem solving. Students who learn logically often ask lots of
questions and enjoy doing experiments. Excel especially in mathematics and science. You must help
these students in other classes by using groupings and similar characteristics to learn the information.
Musical learners obviously have the ability to produce and appreciate music, they think in rhythms,
sounds, and patterns. Learners of this nature often critique what they hear. They are sensitive to all
sounds they hear, especially what they hear in the environment. Using instruments or their voice,
musical learners are capable of reproducing a sound. Musical learners often have difficulty in a
regular classroom, so you often find these students using music to

Generational Poverty Essay
Introduction
This week in class the focus has been on generational poverty. There are a lot of key factors that
lead to poverty. Poverty does not exist because people want it to. Poverty is a way of life for those
who don't know another way and feel that they don't have a way out. Every day in society people
turn their heads or frown up their nose at people who they see living in poverty because they think
they are better than them and will not lift a hand to help them out. The big question is why do we
do this? In most cases, the poverty line or clash of the classes are based on wealth and there is
certainly a variation in the wealth among the population. But classism exists from the beginning of
education to death....show more content...
The next factor is education. Education attainment is a major if not the most important key to
breaking the cycle of generational poverty. Research has shown that growing up in a lower income
family negatively impacts educational obtainment needed to break the cycle of poverty. Learned
behavior within peer groups, families and neighborhoods can also contribute to the cycle of poverty.
Those with minimal education tend to find themselves employed at low paying jobs with little or no
benefits. In addition, financial literacy and training is an important educational component that is
needed to break the cycle of poverty.
Employment is the third factor. There has been a significant decline in manufacturing jobs,
which are typically high paying with good benefits. There is a growing mismatch with the skills
of these displaced workers and available jobs. The loss of these manufacturing jobs has resulted
in many folks going back to generational poverty. In a lot of cases, there are a growth of new jobs
but these jobs tends to come with low pay and no benefits, which can further prevent breaking out
of the cycle poverty. Also, multiple income based antipoverty programs can have a negative impact
of work incentives. This is due to the fact these programs have to be funded with funds that could be
used to pay workers to help them overcome

Bell Hooks's Education
bell hooks, American feminist writer and literary critic, once said, "The classroom, with all its
limitations, remains a location of possibility." Even when she wrote these words over 20 years ago
in 1994, there was a clear, unsullied idea of what a child's education should be composed
ofв”Ђpossibilities. In the time of hooks' writing, America's people were being tested on their
strength as the deindustrialization of major cities occurred, leaving most of the factory workers
without money and homeless. After Reagan left office, there was an abundance to clean up. The
country's people were trying to create possibilities that might work out. The American school system
remains about what hooks said: possibilities. Even with the media continuously...show more content...
We see constant disparities in funding within our school system between class and between race.
Because of this, we need to regulate the funding between the "good school bad school poor
school rich school" paradigm. Why aren't there already laws permitting and enforcing equal
funding? In the ruling of Rodriguez vs. San Antonio Independent School district, it was found
that even if it was completely morally ethical, laws against or for inequitable funding are not in
the constitution and therefore it cannot be ruled upon in the high court. So, even if two schools
in the same district are within a 10,000 dollars funding difference, a pupil cannot do anything
about it because it doesn't say anything about it in the constitution. States in the deep south, like
Texas and Alabama, get the least funding, says a study done by the National Law Center for
Education. The U.S. average for funding per state is $10,132 for one pupil. Tennessee's money
spent per pupil is $6,839. Also, Tennessee has one of the lowest GDPs and its education effort is
one of the lowest. Why is this? Because Tennessee still didn't take advantage of its fiscal capacity,
and that's why it received an F on the effort scale. In a study done by Education Trust, it said that
there is a 1,200 dollar gap between the districts with the most poverty and the districts with the least

Essay on Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy
Nuclear Power and its uses is a growing discussion in today's era of technology. Australia is one of
the developed countries where the demands of energy resources are increasing rapidly. Nuclear
energy is coming up as a great alternative, but various factors support as well as oppose its growth.
Some countries oppose the usage of nuclear energy because of the problems associated with its
usage. Production and Maintenance of nuclear power is very expensive. Nuclear power is viewed as
too dangerous, uneconomical, and not required. Although, nuclear energy has a potential hazard, but
it is reliable in terms of efficiency, environmental impact and cost when compared with other sources
of energy. Therefore, the increase in the...show more content...
Though renewable sources of energy are reliable but their output greatly depends on the
environment. For example, cloudy days have no solar gain, hence no solar energy production. Quiet
days mean no wind blows to drive wind turbines. Dams are primarily for flood control, so
hydroelectricity production varies as dam water levels fluctuate.
Considering the case of Aswan Dam in Egypt not only caused thousands to loose their homes and
lives but also ceased the fertile surrounding because of the yearly inundation of the Nile. Moreover,
the subsequent silting up for the river destroyed much wildlife.
Due to Thermal Power Generation, 2500 million tons of coal each year is consumed to produce
38% of the electricity, While 61,000 tons of Natural Uranium will be used to generate the same
amount of energy (World Nuclear Association, 2005) .
Secondly, nuclear energy source has a weak impact on environment than the Non–renewable
resources. There is no doubt that use of fossil fuels leads to global warming. While, the amount of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was only 0.028% five decades ago, now, as per American
Petroleum Institute (1998) estimates it reached 0.036%. Additionally, burning of fossil fuels,
especially coal, oil, and natural gases are the main causes for increase in pollution; especially air
pollution. Several hazardous pollutants are produced by fossil fuels combustion: Carbon Monoxide,
Nitrogen Oxides, Sulphur Oxides and

Minecraft Essay
Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using
the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the
trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been
released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man,
Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that
it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a
company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he
realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content...
The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on
January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity
increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and
published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000
a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang
has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl
Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few
people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few
employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who
buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such
success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans.
One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it
truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will
they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation
concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same
genre. What if nobody likes the game? What

Wind Turbines Essay
"A wind turbine is a machine for converting the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy". (1)
The inventor of the first electric wind turbine was Clevelander Charles Brush, who ran his entire
Euclid Avenue mansion off of one for 20 years, which later made the cover of Scientific American in
1888. (2) Although the use of alternate energy didn't rise a great deal afterward, this event did open
the eyes for many environmentalists. Wind power is only one of our several "energy source[s]
whose 'fuel' is free and will never be exhausted" (3) with the pros and cons not completely weighed
out as to whether it will be truly beneficial or not. The two main issues regarding wind turbines are
the environmental effects that they have and the...show more content...
The constructions of the turbines alone are creating an effect on these mammals because of the
frequency of noise that is emitted into the water. These frequencies disrupt mammal communication,
location and location of other species around them.
One other environmental factor regarding wind turbines, especially the wind farms, is that "erecting
and maintaining wind turbines can also necessitate clearing land: ridgeline installations often
require a fair amount of deforestation, and then there's the associated clearing for access roads,
maintenance facilities, and the like". (7) Although we are trying to help the environment by
creating a safer and cleaner source of energy, the actions of clearing our forests, and whatever
ecosystem that lived in that forest, in order to save the environment appears to be an oxymoron.
"But there are also now a great many turbines situated on farmland, where the fields around their
bases are still actively farmed". (8)
The long term effects of this issue could be devastating if precautions are not taken. Small rodents
are known to find shelter at the base of the large wind turbines, luring different bird species to wind
farms causing a higher death rate for the birds. The wind farms are also unfortunately located in the
migration

Self Care Essay example
Just to think about self care can be a task in itself. I never really thought it about it, to be honest,
but it is an essential part of living. We get so busy and caught up living in our everyday lives that
we forget about the most important part, ourselves. I have two young kids ages 3 and 5, so my
focus is always to take care of them and make sure their needs are met, forgetting about myself along
the way. I think this assignment will help me to appreciate and not take for granted the things that I
know I need to do for myself and to show love to the most important person, me.
Stress management and self–soothing techniques are critical for surviving modern work–no matter
the focus of the work. Psychotherapists tend to disregard their...show more content...
In class we discussed "saying no" being apart of our plans and I know that this is a must for me.
At times I find myself running around like a chicken with its head cutoff. If only I had the courage
to tell people no when I really need to the most. This will be tough for me but I know that it will
help me have more time to do the things I love.
Although there are several things on my list that I am cringing over I will give it my all. What
better way to be a good therapist? Starting the process of self–care now will hopefully alleviate
future problems that I could face. I embrace this experience to create more self–love within. Setting
out with determination and a clear understanding of my plan will hopefully create the motivation
that I need to complete my goals. Knowing how I am, I have to take this day–by–day. If I do miss a
task, instead of beating up on myself as I usually do I will commit to that task the following day.
Its not so much doing the tasks that I am worried about because everything on my list I appreciate,
it is finding the time to fit it all in. I think what will motivate me is knowing that if I can't help and
take care of myself then how can I take care of my future clients. My ultimate goal after attending
Antioch is of course helping others better their lives so I think this plan will give me a jumpstart in
helping myself first.

  • 1. Growing Up Essays What does it mean to grow up? Does it mean washing your car, paying your bills, getting a job? Does it mean getting married, having kids, and sprouting gray hair? Is it necessary? Is everyone capable of it? Is it going to be hard and will it be worth the effort? All of these questions are probably what made Peter Pan decide to never leave Neverland. Growing up means a lot of different things to many different people. If we look at the words "growing up", we simply think of the physical aspect of ageing, growing tall and wide. But for most people, growing up means something deeper involving a change in the approach that an individual has to life and the actions that are taken with it. In this essay, we will look at why people have...show more content... They can't just be told. Mistakes are made and we are held accountable. Such mistakes could include simple things when we are young like hitting your younger sibling, or they could be as adults like not paying your bills. Sometimes, we have to make the mistake in order to be able to correct it. We look at the mistake we made, for example, cheating on a test. We are pleased with the score. However, we see that we did not receive the grade that was deserved. The other students all put in long hours of studying and in turn earned their good grades. When something like this happens an immature person would not think much of it and move on, but a person who has grown spiritually into a person with morals will not feel comfortable with this result, and probably not do it again. That is one form of growing up. It is important to feel responsibility for the actions that have been taken. The next step is reacting in a productive way to that responsibility. In order to assume responsibility, we have to have a sense of right and wrong which is only naturally learned by living life. When responsibility is accepted, we have begun to see the truth and reality of our situation, as Peck describes. Dedication to truth is heavily involved with the concept of accepting responsibility because for people to see blame in themselves, they have to have a clear plane of reality that shows the necessity of a solution from them. • 2. Solar Power Essay example Solar Power All life on Earth depends on energy from the sun. Solar energy is the source of energy for photosynthesis. It provides the warmth necessary for plants and animals to survive. The heat from the sun causes water on the Earth's surface to evaporate and form clouds that eventually provide fresh rainwater. Solar energy is the result of thermonuclear fusion reactions deep within the sun. These reactions produce so much energy that they keep the surface temperature of the sun at about 10,300B0F. Even though solar energy is the largest source of energy received by the Earth, its intensity at the Earth's surface is actually very low due to the large distance between the Earth and the sun and the fact that the Earth's atmosphere...show more content... Because the intensity of the sun's radiation at the surface of the Earth is so low, collectors designed to capture solar energy must be large. In the sunniest parts of the continental United States, for example, in order for a collector to gather enough energy to serve one person for one day, the area of the collector's surface must be about 430 square feet. The actual energy that can be used depends on the efficiency of the collector and of the device that converts the radiation into usable energy. Flat–plate collectors. The most common flat–plate collectors consist of a dark metal plate, covered with one or two sheets of glass, that absorbs heat. The heat is transferred to air or water, called carrier fluids, that flows past the back of the plate. This heat may be used directly or it may be transferred to another medium. One such device, called a solar furnace, was installed in the Pyrenees in France and has several acres of mirrors focused on a single target. The energy concentrated at Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay Growing Up When I Grow Up.. "Being 'grown up' isn't as fun as the idea of growing up." –AmberGrace Seguin Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do 'grownup' things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally 'grew up', and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven't made up our mind of what it is we will do when we grow up. We've painted this pretty little picture in our head of what it'll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken off the wall and put into action, it's not nearly as fun as creating the painting. "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional." –Anonymous We all have the choice...show more content... "The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise." –Alden Nowlan As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it. "A grownup is a child with layers on." –Woody Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Hook Feminism Essay Feminism is for everyone explains the emotional encounters of the struggles and challenges faced by the feminist movement. The experiences of the feminist movement helped shaped a strong case that the inclusion of men is required within the movement. One main goal of the feminist movement is to end all forms of sexism, sexist exploitations, and oppression (Hook). The key argument that Hook makes throughout her novel is that feminism is about creating a world free of sexism. The only way to make this possible is by having both males and females fight to end sexist causes. The patriarchal society is based on powers in relationships–whether that power is men over women, bosses over their workers and even parents over their children. • 6. Multiple Intelligences Essays Multiple Intelligences Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone's different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods. Howard Gardner, a professor at Harvard, introduced his theory of multiple intelligences in 1983. Multiple intelligence's is a theory about the brain that says human beings are born with single intelligence that cannot be changed, and is measurable by a...show more content... The bodily kinesthetic learner can often be a problem causer in the classroom. This person has problems sitting still and even does their best work will up and moving around. Activities that involve movement are the best way for these learners to absorb information. They often excel in physical education and enjoy becoming involved in sporting activities. The second most common intelligence is logical mathematical. It involves the ability to use numbers, logic, and reason. These learners learn conceptually, in logic and number patterns. Includes inductive and deductive reasoning skills, as well as critical and creative problem solving. Students who learn logically often ask lots of questions and enjoy doing experiments. Excel especially in mathematics and science. You must help these students in other classes by using groupings and similar characteristics to learn the information. Musical learners obviously have the ability to produce and appreciate music, they think in rhythms, sounds, and patterns. Learners of this nature often critique what they hear. They are sensitive to all sounds they hear, especially what they hear in the environment. Using instruments or their voice, musical learners are capable of reproducing a sound. Musical learners often have difficulty in a regular classroom, so you often find these students using music to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Generational Poverty Essay Introduction This week in class the focus has been on generational poverty. There are a lot of key factors that lead to poverty. Poverty does not exist because people want it to. Poverty is a way of life for those who don't know another way and feel that they don't have a way out. Every day in society people turn their heads or frown up their nose at people who they see living in poverty because they think they are better than them and will not lift a hand to help them out. The big question is why do we do this? In most cases, the poverty line or clash of the classes are based on wealth and there is certainly a variation in the wealth among the population. But classism exists from the beginning of education to death....show more content... The next factor is education. Education attainment is a major if not the most important key to breaking the cycle of generational poverty. Research has shown that growing up in a lower income family negatively impacts educational obtainment needed to break the cycle of poverty. Learned behavior within peer groups, families and neighborhoods can also contribute to the cycle of poverty. Those with minimal education tend to find themselves employed at low paying jobs with little or no benefits. In addition, financial literacy and training is an important educational component that is needed to break the cycle of poverty. Employment is the third factor. There has been a significant decline in manufacturing jobs, which are typically high paying with good benefits. There is a growing mismatch with the skills of these displaced workers and available jobs. The loss of these manufacturing jobs has resulted in many folks going back to generational poverty. In a lot of cases, there are a growth of new jobs but these jobs tends to come with low pay and no benefits, which can further prevent breaking out of the cycle poverty. Also, multiple income based antipoverty programs can have a negative impact of work incentives. This is due to the fact these programs have to be funded with funds that could be used to pay workers to help them overcome Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Bell Hooks's Education bell hooks, American feminist writer and literary critic, once said, "The classroom, with all its limitations, remains a location of possibility." Even when she wrote these words over 20 years ago in 1994, there was a clear, unsullied idea of what a child's education should be composed ofв”Ђpossibilities. In the time of hooks' writing, America's people were being tested on their strength as the deindustrialization of major cities occurred, leaving most of the factory workers without money and homeless. After Reagan left office, there was an abundance to clean up. The country's people were trying to create possibilities that might work out. The American school system remains about what hooks said: possibilities. Even with the media continuously...show more content... We see constant disparities in funding within our school system between class and between race. Because of this, we need to regulate the funding between the "good school bad school poor school rich school" paradigm. Why aren't there already laws permitting and enforcing equal funding? In the ruling of Rodriguez vs. San Antonio Independent School district, it was found that even if it was completely morally ethical, laws against or for inequitable funding are not in the constitution and therefore it cannot be ruled upon in the high court. So, even if two schools in the same district are within a 10,000 dollars funding difference, a pupil cannot do anything about it because it doesn't say anything about it in the constitution. States in the deep south, like Texas and Alabama, get the least funding, says a study done by the National Law Center for Education. The U.S. average for funding per state is $10,132 for one pupil. Tennessee's money spent per pupil is $6,839. Also, Tennessee has one of the lowest GDPs and its education effort is one of the lowest. Why is this? Because Tennessee still didn't take advantage of its fiscal capacity, and that's why it received an F on the effort scale. In a study done by Education Trust, it said that there is a 1,200 dollar gap between the districts with the most poverty and the districts with the least Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay on Nuclear Energy Nuclear energy Nuclear Power and its uses is a growing discussion in today's era of technology. Australia is one of the developed countries where the demands of energy resources are increasing rapidly. Nuclear energy is coming up as a great alternative, but various factors support as well as oppose its growth. Some countries oppose the usage of nuclear energy because of the problems associated with its usage. Production and Maintenance of nuclear power is very expensive. Nuclear power is viewed as too dangerous, uneconomical, and not required. Although, nuclear energy has a potential hazard, but it is reliable in terms of efficiency, environmental impact and cost when compared with other sources of energy. Therefore, the increase in the...show more content... Though renewable sources of energy are reliable but their output greatly depends on the environment. Considering the case of Aswan Dam in Egypt not only caused thousands to loose their homes and lives but also ceased the fertile surrounding because of the yearly inundation of the Nile. Moreover, the subsequent silting up for the river destroyed much wildlife. Due to Thermal Power Generation, 2500 million tons of coal each year is consumed to produce 38% of the electricity, While 61,000 tons of Natural Uranium will be used to generate the same amount of energy (World Nuclear Association, 2005) . Secondly, nuclear energy source has a weak impact on environment than the Non–renewable resources. There is no doubt that use of fossil fuels leads to global warming. While, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was only 0.028% five decades ago, now, as per American Petroleum Institute (1998) estimates it reached 0.036%. Additionally, burning of fossil fuels, especially coal, oil, and natural gases are the main causes for increase in pollution; especially air pollution. • 10. Minecraft Essay Minecraft is a game where the player uses their imagination to shape the world around them using the resources they find. In the world everything is shaped like a block or a cube, this includes the trees, the dirt, the water, the clouds, even the sun, everything. This simple game hasn't even been released yet but has already sold over one million copies. Minecraft was created by one man, Markus "Notch" Persson, and this is his story. What makes the story of Minecraft so unique is that it was created by Notch and only Notch. Notch had a job before Minecraft, working on games for a company. He started to work on Minecraft in his free time but after a giant popularity spike he realized that it could be a hit, so he quit his job and began...show more content... The game sells around 10,000 copies per day. It has become a cultural phenomenon and on January 12, 2011 sales passed the one million mark, but they continued to rise. With popularity increasing, big name comics like "Penny Arcade" and "Hejibits" discovered the game too and published comic strips about minecraft, leading to even further sales. Minecraft makes $250,000 a day and continues to do so. On June 13, 2011, Minecraft passed 2.5 million sales. Today Mojang has 10 employees. Markus Persson, Jens Bergensten, Daniel Kaplan, Junkboy, Jakob Porser, Carl Manneh, Tobias Mollstam, Aron Neiminen, Daniel Frisk, and Daniel Rosenfeld. These few people make up the team that continues to work towards Minecraft's future. But with so few employees things take time. Even though the game has not been officially released, people who buy the game get a copy of what it is right now as the updates are being pushed out. With such success Mojang is the target of some heavy criticism from blogs, critics, and even their own fans. One speculation from fans is that Minecraft will be the company's 1 hit wonder. What happens if it truly is a one hit wonder? Will the company go down under? Will it be the end of Mojang? Will they join a publisher in order to stay afloat and lose their title of "indie?" Another speculation concerns Mojang's next game that has absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, not even in the same genre. What if nobody likes the game? What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Wind Turbines Essay "A wind turbine is a machine for converting the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy". (1) The inventor of the first electric wind turbine was Clevelander Charles Brush, who ran his entire Euclid Avenue mansion off of one for 20 years, which later made the cover of Scientific American in 1888. (2) Although the use of alternate energy didn't rise a great deal afterward, this event did open the eyes for many environmentalists. Wind power is only one of our several "energy source[s] whose 'fuel' is free and will never be exhausted" (3) with the pros and cons not completely weighed out as to whether it will be truly beneficial or not. The two main issues regarding wind turbines are the environmental effects that they have and the...show more content... The constructions of the turbines alone are creating an effect on these mammals because of the frequency of noise that is emitted into the water. These frequencies disrupt mammal communication, location and location of other species around them. One other environmental factor regarding wind turbines, especially the wind farms, is that "erecting and maintaining wind turbines can also necessitate clearing land: ridgeline installations often require a fair amount of deforestation, and then there's the associated clearing for access roads, maintenance facilities, and the like". (7) Although we are trying to help the environment by creating a safer and cleaner source of energy, the actions of clearing our forests, and whatever ecosystem that lived in that forest, in order to save the environment appears to be an oxymoron. "But there are also now a great many turbines situated on farmland, where the fields around their bases are still actively farmed". (8) The long term effects of this issue could be devastating if precautions are not taken. Small rodents are known to find shelter at the base of the large wind turbines, luring different bird species to wind farms causing a higher death rate for the birds. The wind farms are also unfortunately located in the migration Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Self Care Essay example Just to think about self care can be a task in itself. I never really thought it about it, to be honest, but it is an essential part of living. We get so busy and caught up living in our everyday lives that we forget about the most important part, ourselves. I have two young kids ages 3 and 5, so my focus is always to take care of them and make sure their needs are met, forgetting about myself along the way. I think this assignment will help me to appreciate and not take for granted the things that I know I need to do for myself and to show love to the most important person, me. Stress management and self–soothing techniques are critical for surviving modern work–no matter the focus of the work. Psychotherapists tend to disregard their...show more content... In class we discussed "saying no" being apart of our plans and I know that this is a must for me. At times I find myself running around like a chicken with its head cutoff. If only I had the courage to tell people no when I really need to the most. This will be tough for me but I know that it will help me have more time to do the things I love. Although there are several things on my list that I am cringing over I will give it my all. What better way to be a good therapist? Starting the process of self–care now will hopefully alleviate future problems that I could face. I embrace this experience to create more self–love within. Setting out with determination and a clear understanding of my plan will hopefully create the motivation that I need to complete my goals. Knowing how I am, I have to take this day–by–day. If I do miss a task, instead of beating up on myself as I usually do I will commit to that task the following day. Its not so much doing the tasks that I am worried about because everything on my list I appreciate, it is finding the time to fit it all in. I think what will motivate me is knowing that if I can't help and take care of myself then how can I take care of my future clients. My ultimate goal after attending Antioch is of course helping others better their lives so I think this plan will give me a jumpstart in helping myself first. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
