Written and Spoken English Language Essay
Written and Spoken English Language
The English language consists both of written and spoken features. Until recently, items and
structures most typically found in spoken language have not been fully described. Most grammars of
English have had a bias towards the written language.
They are many differences between spoken and written English. Text A and B show written and
spoken versions of an account of a days activities.
Text A is a written account of these activities, while Text B is a transcript of the spoken account.
The major differences between spoken and written English are, sentences in the written sense for
example units beginning with capital letters, consisting of at least one main clause and ending in a

Examples of this can be found in Text B, here she mentions '..started with er the getting my dinners
on (3.0) er was pretty straightforward then..'
Here we know what the speaker is talking about, however if this was written text then the opening
'was pretty straightforward' makes no sense to the reader.
Another major distinction between spoken English and written English is the omission or slurring of
syllables in the spoken language, this is called Elision.
Words like 'going to' are slurred to 'gonna' and 'want to be' to 'wannabe' this is very common in
speech as this is deliberately done to elide the sounds of the words for accent, regional dialect ect.
The use of contracted forms are never used in the standard written English, examples of elision
cannot be found in Text B as the speaker seems rarely do this.
Written English is a complicated formation of manly grammar. In Text A, the written account of the
speakers activities, she uses very little grammar; with no clauses, pauses for breath, or barely any use
of punctuation. The paragraph is very basic, while the sentence structure and depth is kept simple.
There could be many reasons for this, the speaker maybe illiterate with very little knowledge, or

Editorial Essay – School Start Times Many high schools in the US start their schedules at 8:00 A.M.,
and some even before 7:30 A.M., which cause health and educational problems for student's
nationwide. Early school start times are detrimental to the physical and mental health of teenagers
because of short and long–term effects. Everyone knows, or has heard, that on average teenagers
should obtain at least 8 hours of sleep, and some even say the minimum should be 9 hours.
However, "according to the National Sleep Foundation, only 14% achieve this goal, and
approximately 70% of adolescents obtain less than 8 hours of sleep on a typical weeknight,"
says Ph.D. holder Dr. Julie Boergers. Currently, only about 40% of US high schools start before
8:00 A.M. and many even start at 7:30 A.M. or earlier. To add on, many teens now days work part
time jobs starting right after school, and some of them don't return home until 11:00 or 12:00 p.m.
Of course, this doesn't take into consideration the homework a student has from school, so on
average adding two hours, most teen would go to sleep at 1 or 2 at night. This only leaves about 4
to 5 hours of sleep for many teens. With only four to five hours of sleep in a student's schedule there
are many problems that can come. For short–term effects, lack of adequate sleep can affect the
ability to learn and retain information, mood, judgment, and may increase the risk of injury, or a
serious accident. In the long term, sleep deprivation may

Editorial Analysis Essay
ENG 201H 2/10/13 Editorial Analysis "We are all equal; it is not birth but virtue alone that makes the
difference." This insightful quote from the famous French philosopher and historian "Voltaire"
seems to accurately represent the beliefs of the factions of American citizens pushing to allow
women to fight in combat positions within the US Armed Forces. Though the topic has just recently
been boosted into the media and congressional politics, it has been long debated. A rather current
editorial from USA Today titled: "Open Combat Positions to Women" outlines the recent
developments in the status of a much disputed and controversial issue facing the nation today.
Though somewhat less in–depth than some opposing opinions, the...show more content...
Also in the beginning of the editorial, the author refers back to the two women who fought on the
front lines. Those women as well as two other servicewomen filed suit in attempt to overturn the
law established in 1994 which states as follows: "Rule: Service members are eligible to be
assigned to all positions for which they are qualified, except that women shall be excluded from
assignment to units below the brigade level whose primary mission is to engage in direct combat
on the ground, as defined below. Definition: Direct ground combat is engaging an enemy on the
ground with individual or crew served weapons, while being exposed to hostile fire and to a high
probability of direct physical contact with the hostile forces personnel. Direct combat take s place
well forward on the battlefield while locating an closing with the enemy to defeat then by fire,
maneuver or shock effect." The author goes on to state that, despite what happens in court with the
lawsuit filed by the four servicewomen, the issue should never have to go to court in order to be
acted upon. The author seems to think that it is simply a matter of logical thinking. Some other
supporting evidence in the editorial is the Author's

Essay On Overdose
The United States is currently in the midst of an Opioid overdose epidemic. Deaths from overdoses
of prescription drugs continue to be the leading cause of unintentional death for Americans. Last
year, 47,055 people died from drug overdoses – 1.5 times greater than the number killed in car
crashes. Overdose is an excessive and very dangerous dose of a drug. Opioids are substances that act
on opioid receptors to produce morphine–like effects. Medically, they are primarily used for pain
relief. The most commonly prescribed opioid medications are Vicodin, OxyContin, and Percocet.
Drug overdoses can be either accidental or intentional. They occur when a person takes more than
the medically recommended dose. Treatments for overdose include medications...show more

Today, Naloxone is now being prescribed and dispensed to people at risk of opioid overdose. The
number of overdose deaths has quadrupled since 1999. Statistics show that increased availability,
relatively low price (compared to prescription opioids), and high purity of heroin in the United States
is one of the reasons why death rates are so high. From 2000 to 2015, more than half a million
people died from drug overdoses. Every day, approximately 91 Americans die from an opioid
overdose. It is a proven fact that most people who are addicted suffer the most overdoses. Anyone
taking drugs can suffer an opiate overdose, especially when they take more than prescribed or if
they combine opiates with other CNS (Central Nervous System) depressants with alcohol. It's rare
for someone to die immediately from an overdose, it's usually a very slow process that takes
anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. After you administer the Naloxone, it lasts between
30–90 minutes before the overdose begins to recur. Also, Naloxone can also cause an uncomfortable
withdrawal feeling; This is because it blocks the action of opioids in the

Editorial Calendar Research Paper
How to Create an Editorial Calendar that Will Lead you to Success
I could mention more than 20 reasons to why most bloggers fail to be consistent when blogging or
they quick blogging altogether.
I could write a whole blog post just dedicated to that, but today I am only focusing on one reason.
One of the reasons bloggers fail to be consistent with their blog is because they don't have an
editorial calendar. Believe me when I say that having an editorial calendar will help you be
consistent and therefore lead you to succeed in the blogging world.
If you are a blogger and you don't have an editorial calendar or you want to improve yours allow me
to share how to create an editorial calendar that will lead you to success.
How to...show more content...
There are 3 questions that you need to answer before creating your posting schedule.
How much time can I dedicate to blogging? The reason why I start with this question is because I
know that a lot of bloggers are not full time bloggers, they have full time jobs or are full time moms
or are full time students. So depending on your situation, decide how much time are you willing to
dedicate to blogging.
2. How much does it takes me to write a post? Maybe you blog about product review and after
testing the product, it only takes you an hour to have a finished post ready to publish. Or maybe
you have a DIY blog and writing a blog post takes you 2–3 hours. Chances are that if you review
products in your blog you will be able to produce more content in less time. Therefore this blog will
be able to publish more posts throughout the week than the DIY blog. (But of course it all depends
on the amount of time available to blogging)
3. Am I willing to blog consistently? If you really want to take your blog seriously (which I know
you do) then you probably are ready to start building that editorial calendar.
Always remember that you need to set yourself for success. So take the first step now! Now that
you have answered all the questions, build a posting schedule that works for you. Keep in mind the
3 questions. You want the number of post per week to be doable. Then pick the days when you will
be posting.

many people who are simply crazy about cars. An essay on car is a very interesting thing to do.
One can write a lot about a car in an essay. An essay on car mentions the different kinds of cars, its

In college, I studied illustrated books from an academic standpoint. I went to Vassar, where
children's book writer Nancy Willard was on faculty. She introduced me to illustrator Barry Moser,
and the interview he gave me was the centerpiece of my senior thesis. While I was there, I spent
three years as a student assistant in Vassar's lab pre–school, and after graduation found work as an
assistant teacher in a Montessori school, teaching 6–9 year olds. That year, I began to write a novel
with my father – through the mail. I was in Chicago and he was in New York. We thought it would
be a fun way to keep in touch. I wrote a chapter – then he wrote a chapter. We rewrote each other's

Editorial Evaluation: Feeling poorer? You have plenty of company. USA Today News
Could it be true that more people live in poverty today than at any point in the last 50 years? An
editorial from the USA Today website titled Feeling poorer? You have plenty of company. presents
that exact argument. The following evaluation of this editorial will look at the strengths and
weaknesses of their argument. If the editorial's argument is properly presented, it should provide
adequate reasons that support their conclusion, refrain from using any hidden assumptions, abstain

The information in this editorial is mostly true, and presents it's argument with integrity. They avoid
contradictions in their reasoning, and maintain a steady opinion of where the problem came from.
One can assume from observing the author's tone, that they are of the opinion that government needs
to change it's ways. Truthful facts are presented to support this opinion.
This editorial from the USA Today website presents a solid argument that there are more poor
people today than there was fifty years ago, and they give good reasons and facts to back it up. As
was covered in this essay, it provides reasons supportive of the conclusion, generally avoids hidden
assumptions, abstains from prejudicial words(with the exception of one phrase), presents reasons
without fallacies, includes most of the important information, and presents it all using integrity and
without contradictions. There is no doubt we are facing tough financial times as a nation right now.
However if we can all look at the big picture, we should realize what this argument presents is true.
Our government and society need to change their ways if we want to mend the problems we have
been dealing with the last decade.

Editorials By Melnyk Summary
Initial post 5.Read the two editorials by Melnyk (2016) that are listed in the readings section
above. Describe the key learnings in these editorials about how leaders can overcome barriers and
create, as well as sustain, a culture of EBP. Do you agree with Melnyk's thesis that "Culture eats
strategy every time?" If yes, provide evidence to support your stance. If not, again, provide
evidence to support your position. If you are an innovative and visionary leader, what is your plan
for building on the strategies and overcoming the barriers (force–field analysis and change theory) to
support and sustain a culture of EBP? Provide examples from your own work setting and other
relevant evidence to substantiate your response. The editorials by Melnyk (2016) both highlight
barriers to evidence–based practice (EBP), expertise and skills of the clinicians, the lack of contact
of guides, lack of resources, and misunderstandings of the time to take part in EBP. Focusing on the

Argument Analysis: The Times Editorial
Except for the proper evidence and clear reasons, an array of persuasive elements is also utilized in
the passage to emphasize the main argument. In the first paragraph, for instance, the Times Editorial
board skillfully uses a concession to analyze that increasing the minimum income will virtually cause
employers to eliminate jobs and reduce their hours. This element, therefore, makes the argument
more receptive and also clarifies the maturation of the author. More important, the concession in the
opening can let the audience be persuaded more easily while they keep reading through the passage.
Then, in the seventh paragraph, The Times Editorial board offers the audience an authentic contrast
by claiming that unlike the situations in California,

Is College For Everyone? Essay
In her article "Is College for Everyone?" blogger and college professor Pharinet discusses the value
of a college education and debates whether or not it is worth it to pursue a continued education. The
author's purpose for writing this article is to attempt to change a popular societal opinion that it is
necessary to attend college in order to succeed. She argues that there are students who are often
unprepared for the challenges and responsibilities of attending college, but attend simply for the
reason that they are expected to. She challenges the idea that "college is for everyone" and
encourages college students to question how beneficial a college education is for them personally.
The organization of Pharinet's article starts off with the basic question about college. Is it for
everyone? Throughout the article, she strategically organizes the paragraphs to answer this question.
She organizes the paragraphs in a way that pulls the main ideas from each paragraph. The paragraph
shifts from types of students, to the cost of education, to students that attend college that are unable
to read, to college students mentality, and ending with examining why people attend college. The
last paragraph basically shows a problem and the solution. Throughout the article, she asks questions
which also shows how she organizes the article.
There is a wide group of people that could be the potential audience. It could be high school students
that could read about this and are

A Deeper Look Into Indiana 's Law
A Deeper Look into Indiana's Law Many thoughts should run through one's mind as they skim
through The Editorial Board of Terre Haute Tribune–Star's "It's time to expand Indiana's civil rights
law" editorial piece. This editorial presents many flaws that can be spotted with one read through.
The opinion piece is written with good intentions; however, The Board commits quite a few errors in
the delivery. Inconsistencies and appeals to an already sympathetic audience make it difficult for this
editorial to convince any skeptics to switch sides on the issues that are raised. While The Board
was obviously passionate about this writing, the editorial is not effective due to insufficient
evidence and only one viewpoint among other oversights. This piece tries to raise concerns about
Indiana's wellbeing and shortcomings that all relate back to one law, the Religious Freedom
Restoration Act (RFRA), which gives businesses the right to exercise their religious beliefs when
running their operations. Unsupported evidence is one of the major setbacks in this mission of The
Board. It begins when The Board said, "But RFRA backfired" (par. 4) ("It's time to expand Indiana's
civil rights law"). There is no solid evidence of this assertion throughout the remainder of the
editorial with only one weak sentence to follow that statement which says, "Despite attempts to 'fix'
it, Indiana continues to pay for it through lost economic investment and a tarnished public image"

How to Write an Editorial Essay
At one time the term editorial indicated that the editorial=s message was indeed a message from the
editor. Today the editorial in professional journals also serves other functions. Many editorials are
concise critical reviews of scientific topics, particularly topics that represent recent developments.
The editorial may also be used for comment on an original paper published in the same issue. The
commentary may critically assess the paper for its scientific validity, may disagree with the
interpretation of the data reported, may put the paper=s contribution into perspective with other very
recently reported findings that could not be taken into account when the paper was written, or may

The length of an editorial, the number of paragraphs, depend on how complex a problem it
considers, the amount of evidence it examines, and the number of possible answers. Some editorials
may consist of only one paragraph and yet carry the main elements of argument in their natural
sequence.
The opening paragraph states the first element of the argument: >The problem or Question=. Most
readers will need more than a simple statement of the problem. Experts on the subject will know
what new events or new knowledge led to awareness that a problem needs an answer, but most
editorials are not written for a small number of experts. The question of how much background
information to include in the lead–in to the statement of the problem is probably best answered as it
is for the Introduction to a research paper. The editorialist should assume that readers know less
than he does about the topic of the editorial but are well informed on the larger subject field within
which the topic lies. The author of an editorial on the usefulness of laparotomy in staging
Hodgkin=s disease should assume that the reader knows less than experts experienced with this use
of laparotomy but is well informed in general on recent developments in Hodgkin=s disease and
knows the meaning of >laparotomy= and of >staging=. The editorialist can then open the editorial
with a brief summary of the not–entirely–satisfactory of the methods for staging or with a summary
of the current controversy

Sport Psychology
In earlier days sports psychology was mostly concerned with developing assessment methods that
would identify those people with the potential to become serious superior athletes. Today the focus is
on psychological training, exercises that strengthen the mental skills that will help athletic
performances on the path to excellence. These skills include mental imagery and focus training. If an
athlete is serious about becoming the best he or she can possibly be, the most essential ingredient is
commitment to practice the right things. It takes incredible commitment to reach the top: a
commitment to rest and train the body so it can perform under the most demanding conditions and a

Visualization is a common term used to describe guided imagery or the process of forming images
in our mind like pictures or moves, images recreating our best performances, and the way it feels to
perform just the way we want it to. These images can be visual, kinesthetic– how our body feels,
tactile–how it feels to the touch, auditory–how it sounds, even olfactory–what we smell. Using mind
power we can call upon these images over and over, enhancing skill through repetition rehearsal.
The mind and body can become more prepared to actually perform the skill, and can improve both
physical and mental reactions in certain situations. The developing athletes, who make the fastest
progress and who ultimately become their best, make extensive use of mental imagery. They use it
daily, as a means of directing what will happen in training, and as a way of pre–experiencing their
best competition performances. Mental imagery often starts out simply, as you think though your
goals, your moves, and your desired competitive performances.
Kelly Kryczka, former world champion in synchronized swimming duet discuses the use of on

POlitical Campaign Advertising Essays
Since 1952, television has played a major role in presidential elections. Television allows candidates
to reach a broad number of people, and personalities, to help push along their campaigns. Campaigns
help the candidates just as much as the voters. The candidates get to be identified, and known to the
voters, and the voters get to hear and see how a specific candidate identifies with their needs and
wants. The best way to get this information out there is through the most used form of media,
television.
When candidates develop a plan of attack for campaign advertising, they tend to aim for at least
four types of commercials. One form or type of commercial is those which play on the fears of
countrymen. Fear...show more content...
During the 2004 election, President Bush's campaign ads showed him to be a leader and a strong
president in a time when leadership was needed. Kerry's ad showed him to be a people person, and
a person who connects with the citizen of this country.
Political parties also use ads that make there opponent out to be the bad guy, and often these ads
come from what their opponent has said in the past. Candidates use information from the past to
display the image that there opponent can not be trusted and will go back on his or her word.
This is typically called "flip flopping". When candidates make there opponent out to be a flip
flopper, the opponent is making things worst for themselves. The Republican Party ran a series
of ads that made Senator Kerry look like a flip flopper, and I think the overall effective ness of
those ads was a major factor in the election, but Senator Kerry also stated his claims and told the
voter how he fells on the very same issues that the republican party made senator Kerry to look
indecisive on.
Campaigns that are introducing a candidate to mainstream national coverage tend to run ads that
will show a candidates history and their background. These ads might list what some might call the
qualification needed to be in office. These ads usually show a record of good decision making,

Abortion, when the topic comes up, it is usually something people do not like to discuss. People
may tend to avoid this issue for fear of offending or angering others but it is extremely important
that the horrors of this brutal practice be addressed. During the years 1965–1996 over 515 million
babies have been murdered, this is if you add the number of chemical and surgical abortions

At Least One Parent Should Work from Home
One of the things that have been baffling in this generation is the sudden deviation of morals and

However, it is important to note that such time and opportunity can only be accessed where one
parent works from home (Balter 118). Secondly, where one parent works from home, affords at
one spouse the freedom of dictating their schedules since there is the benefit of flexible hours of
work. In the hustling mode of the 21st Century and the stresses that come with working in formal
business employment, it has become virtually impossible for an employed person to dictate their
hours or schedules. For instance, in an employment set up where the demands of the employer
are that an employee should be at their work station from 8:00 A.M up to 5:00 P.M from Monday
to Friday, the employee will have such a rigid working schedule that they can do virtually nothing
apart from their formal employment between the stated hours of business (Koesters 280). Apart
from creating a monotonous system of life, such set ups deny a parent to have any form of
meaningful relationship with their children since, if the work place is far from home and requires
the parents to leave early so that to arrive on time, probably they will leave before the children
awake to go to school and arrive back at night while the children have gone to sleep. This is directly
contradicted by a scenario where at least one parent work from home and therefore having the
benefit to dictate their working hours and at least represent the other parent in handling important
family matters that would otherwise

Goldberg does a great job of integrating all perspectives and sides when writing his book. As well,
he has surely done his share of research. He cites numerous newspaper and magazine articles, as
well as quote upon quote upon quote from CBS insiders and fellow reporters. He refers to the
constant refusal to have a single left–winger be labeled as "liberal" anywhere in the news, while
always labeling those on the right as "conservative." He laughs at how the news has introduced
Catherine MacKinnon (who once implied that all sexual intercourse was rape) as a "noted law
professor" while Phyllis Schlafly is a "conservative spokeswoman" (CBS This Morning, 1981). By
the same token, the Wall Street Journal's editorial page is conservative, but the equivalent editorial
page in the New York Times is simply "middle of the road," as the Dan (CBS's nickname for Dan

But the fascinating reason why this book is so compelling is not just what is being said, but by
whose mouth it is spewing from. Aformer CBS news correspondent for nearly three decades,
Goldberg is surely not conservative. His motive is not to gain conservatives' approval. In fact, his
own political views, being that he's pro–choice, pro–gay marriage, and he has never voted for
Ronald Reagan (a fact he mentions quite frequently), make

  • 1. Written and Spoken English Language Essay Written and Spoken English Language The English language consists both of written and spoken features. Until recently, items and structures most typically found in spoken language have not been fully described. Most grammars of English have had a bias towards the written language. They are many differences between spoken and written English. Text A and B show written and spoken versions of an account of a days activities. Text A is a written account of these activities, while Text B is a transcript of the spoken account. The major differences between spoken and written English are, sentences in the written sense for example units beginning with capital letters, consisting of at least one main clause and ending in a full stop are...show more content... Examples of this can be found in Text B, here she mentions '..started with er the getting my dinners on (3.0) er was pretty straightforward then..' Here we know what the speaker is talking about, however if this was written text then the opening 'was pretty straightforward' makes no sense to the reader. Another major distinction between spoken English and written English is the omission or slurring of syllables in the spoken language, this is called Elision. Words like 'going to' are slurred to 'gonna' and 'want to be' to 'wannabe' this is very common in speech as this is deliberately done to elide the sounds of the words for accent, regional dialect ect. The use of contracted forms are never used in the standard written English, examples of elision cannot be found in Text B as the speaker seems rarely do this. Written English is a complicated formation of manly grammar. In Text A, the written account of the speakers activities, she uses very little grammar; with no clauses, pauses for breath, or barely any use of punctuation. The paragraph is very basic, while the sentence structure and depth is kept simple. There could be many reasons for this, the speaker maybe illiterate with very little knowledge, or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Editorial Essay Editorial Essay – School Start Times Many high schools in the US start their schedules at 8:00 A.M., and some even before 7:30 A.M., which cause health and educational problems for student's nationwide. Early school start times are detrimental to the physical and mental health of teenagers because of short and long–term effects. Everyone knows, or has heard, that on average teenagers should obtain at least 8 hours of sleep, and some even say the minimum should be 9 hours. However, "according to the National Sleep Foundation, only 14% achieve this goal, and approximately 70% of adolescents obtain less than 8 hours of sleep on a typical weeknight," says Ph.D. holder Dr. Julie Boergers. Currently, only about 40% of US high schools start before 8:00 A.M. and many even start at 7:30 A.M. or earlier. To add on, many teens now days work part time jobs starting right after school, and some of them don't return home until 11:00 or 12:00 p.m. Of course, this doesn't take into consideration the homework a student has from school, so on average adding two hours, most teen would go to sleep at 1 or 2 at night. This only leaves about 4 to 5 hours of sleep for many teens. With only four to five hours of sleep in a student's schedule there are many problems that can come. For short–term effects, lack of adequate sleep can affect the ability to learn and retain information, mood, judgment, and may increase the risk of injury, or a serious accident. In the long term, sleep deprivation may Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Editorial Analysis Essay ENG 201H 2/10/13 Editorial Analysis "We are all equal; it is not birth but virtue alone that makes the difference." This insightful quote from the famous French philosopher and historian "Voltaire" seems to accurately represent the beliefs of the factions of American citizens pushing to allow women to fight in combat positions within the US Armed Forces. Though the topic has just recently been boosted into the media and congressional politics, it has been long debated. A rather current editorial from USA Today titled: "Open Combat Positions to Women" outlines the recent developments in the status of a much disputed and controversial issue facing the nation today. Though somewhat less in–depth than some opposing opinions, the...show more content... Also in the beginning of the editorial, the author refers back to the two women who fought on the front lines. Those women as well as two other servicewomen filed suit in attempt to overturn the law established in 1994 which states as follows: "Rule: Service members are eligible to be assigned to all positions for which they are qualified, except that women shall be excluded from assignment to units below the brigade level whose primary mission is to engage in direct combat on the ground, as defined below. Definition: Direct ground combat is engaging an enemy on the ground with individual or crew served weapons, while being exposed to hostile fire and to a high probability of direct physical contact with the hostile forces personnel. Direct combat take s place well forward on the battlefield while locating an closing with the enemy to defeat then by fire, maneuver or shock effect." The author goes on to state that, despite what happens in court with the lawsuit filed by the four servicewomen, the issue should never have to go to court in order to be acted upon. The author seems to think that it is simply a matter of logical thinking. Some other supporting evidence in the editorial is the Author's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay On Overdose The United States is currently in the midst of an Opioid overdose epidemic. Deaths from overdoses of prescription drugs continue to be the leading cause of unintentional death for Americans. Last year, 47,055 people died from drug overdoses – 1.5 times greater than the number killed in car crashes. Overdose is an excessive and very dangerous dose of a drug. Opioids are substances that act on opioid receptors to produce morphine–like effects. Medically, they are primarily used for pain relief. The most commonly prescribed opioid medications are Vicodin, OxyContin, and Percocet. Drug overdoses can be either accidental or intentional. They occur when a person takes more than the medically recommended dose. Treatments for overdose include medications...show more content... Today, Naloxone is now being prescribed and dispensed to people at risk of opioid overdose. The number of overdose deaths has quadrupled since 1999. Statistics show that increased availability, relatively low price (compared to prescription opioids), and high purity of heroin in the United States is one of the reasons why death rates are so high. From 2000 to 2015, more than half a million people died from drug overdoses. Every day, approximately 91 Americans die from an opioid overdose. It is a proven fact that most people who are addicted suffer the most overdoses. Anyone taking drugs can suffer an opiate overdose, especially when they take more than prescribed or if they combine opiates with other CNS (Central Nervous System) depressants with alcohol. It's rare for someone to die immediately from an overdose, it's usually a very slow process that takes anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. After you administer the Naloxone, it lasts between 30–90 minutes before the overdose begins to recur. Also, Naloxone can also cause an uncomfortable withdrawal feeling; This is because it blocks the action of opioids in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Editorial Calendar Research Paper How to Create an Editorial Calendar that Will Lead you to Success I could mention more than 20 reasons to why most bloggers fail to be consistent when blogging or they quick blogging altogether. I could write a whole blog post just dedicated to that, but today I am only focusing on one reason. One of the reasons bloggers fail to be consistent with their blog is because they don't have an editorial calendar. Believe me when I say that having an editorial calendar will help you be consistent and therefore lead you to succeed in the blogging world. If you are a blogger and you don't have an editorial calendar or you want to improve yours allow me to share how to create an editorial calendar that will lead you to success. How to...show more content... There are 3 questions that you need to answer before creating your posting schedule. How much time can I dedicate to blogging? The reason why I start with this question is because I know that a lot of bloggers are not full time bloggers, they have full time jobs or are full time moms or are full time students. So depending on your situation, decide how much time are you willing to dedicate to blogging. 2. How much does it takes me to write a post? Maybe you blog about product review and after testing the product, it only takes you an hour to have a finished post ready to publish. Or maybe you have a DIY blog and writing a blog post takes you 2–3 hours. Chances are that if you review products in your blog you will be able to produce more content in less time. Therefore this blog will be able to publish more posts throughout the week than the DIY blog. (But of course it all depends on the amount of time available to blogging) 3. Am I willing to blog consistently? If you really want to take your blog seriously (which I know you do) then you probably are ready to start building that editorial calendar. Always remember that you need to set yourself for success. So take the first step now! Now that you have answered all the questions, build a posting schedule that works for you. Keep in mind the 3 questions. You want the number of post per week to be doable. Then pick the days when you will be posting. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I went to Vassar, where children's book writer Nancy Willard was on faculty. She introduced me to illustrator Barry Moser, and the interview he gave me was the centerpiece of my senior thesis. While I was there, I spent three years as a student assistant in Vassar's lab pre–school, and after graduation found work as an assistant teacher in a Montessori school, teaching 6–9 year olds. That year, I began to write a novel with my father – through the mail. I was in Chicago and he was in New York. We thought it would be a fun way to keep in touch. I wrote a chapter – then he wrote a chapter. We rewrote each other's chapters. And rewrote them again. It took a long time, but eventually that story was published as The Secret Life of Billie's Uncle Myron. An editorial from the USA Today website titled Feeling poorer? You have plenty of company. presents that exact argument. The information in this editorial is mostly true, and presents it's argument with integrity. They avoid contradictions in their reasoning, and maintain a steady opinion of where the problem came from. One can assume from observing the author's tone, that they are of the opinion that government needs to change it's ways. Truthful facts are presented to support this opinion. This editorial from the USA Today website presents a solid argument that there are more poor people today than there was fifty years ago, and they give good reasons and facts to back it up. As was covered in this essay, it provides reasons supportive of the conclusion, generally avoids hidden assumptions, abstains from prejudicial words(with the exception of one phrase), presents reasons without fallacies, includes most of the important information, and presents it all using integrity and without contradictions. There is no doubt we are facing tough financial times as a nation right now. However if we can all look at the big picture, we should realize what this argument presents is true. Our government and society need to change their ways if we want to mend the problems we have been dealing with the last decade. References Jones, B (2011, October 10). • 8. Editorials By Melnyk Summary Initial post 5.Read the two editorials by Melnyk (2016) that are listed in the readings section above. Describe the key learnings in these editorials about how leaders can overcome barriers and create, as well as sustain, a culture of EBP. Do you agree with Melnyk's thesis that "Culture eats strategy every time?" If yes, provide evidence to support your stance. If not, again, provide evidence to support your position. If you are an innovative and visionary leader, what is your plan for building on the strategies and overcoming the barriers (force–field analysis and change theory) to support and sustain a culture of EBP? Provide examples from your own work setting and other relevant evidence to substantiate your response. The editorials by Melnyk (2016) both highlight barriers to evidence–based practice (EBP), expertise and skills of the clinicians, the lack of contact of guides, lack of resources, and misunderstandings of the time to take part in EBP. • 9. Argument Analysis: The Times Editorial Except for the proper evidence and clear reasons, an array of persuasive elements is also utilized in the passage to emphasize the main argument. In the first paragraph, for instance, the Times Editorial board skillfully uses a concession to analyze that increasing the minimum income will virtually cause employers to eliminate jobs and reduce their hours. This element, therefore, makes the argument more receptive and also clarifies the maturation of the author. More important, the concession in the opening can let the audience be persuaded more easily while they keep reading through the passage. Then, in the seventh paragraph, The Times Editorial board offers the audience an authentic contrast by claiming that unlike the situations in California, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Is College For Everyone? Essay In her article "Is College for Everyone?" blogger and college professor Pharinet discusses the value of a college education and debates whether or not it is worth it to pursue a continued education. The author's purpose for writing this article is to attempt to change a popular societal opinion that it is necessary to attend college in order to succeed. She argues that there are students who are often unprepared for the challenges and responsibilities of attending college, but attend simply for the reason that they are expected to. She challenges the idea that "college is for everyone" and encourages college students to question how beneficial a college education is for them personally. The organization of Pharinet's article starts off with the basic question about college. Is it for everyone? Throughout the article, she strategically organizes the paragraphs to answer this question. She organizes the paragraphs in a way that pulls the main ideas from each paragraph. The paragraph shifts from types of students, to the cost of education, to students that attend college that are unable to read, to college students mentality, and ending with examining why people attend college. The last paragraph basically shows a problem and the solution. Throughout the article, she asks questions which also shows how she organizes the article. There is a wide group of people that could be the potential audience. It could be high school students that could read about this and are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. A Deeper Look Into Indiana 's Law A Deeper Look into Indiana's Law Many thoughts should run through one's mind as they skim through The Editorial Board of Terre Haute Tribune–Star's "It's time to expand Indiana's civil rights law" editorial piece. This editorial presents many flaws that can be spotted with one read through. The opinion piece is written with good intentions; however, The Board commits quite a few errors in the delivery. Inconsistencies and appeals to an already sympathetic audience make it difficult for this editorial to convince any skeptics to switch sides on the issues that are raised. While The Board was obviously passionate about this writing, the editorial is not effective due to insufficient evidence and only one viewpoint among other oversights. This piece tries to raise concerns about Indiana's wellbeing and shortcomings that all relate back to one law, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which gives businesses the right to exercise their religious beliefs when running their operations. Unsupported evidence is one of the major setbacks in this mission of The Board. It begins when The Board said, "But RFRA backfired" (par. 4) ("It's time to expand Indiana's civil rights law"). There is no solid evidence of this assertion throughout the remainder of the editorial with only one weak sentence to follow that statement which says, "Despite attempts to 'fix' it, Indiana continues to pay for it through lost economic investment and a tarnished public image" ("It's time to expand Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. How to Write an Editorial Essay At one time the term editorial indicated that the editorial=s message was indeed a message from the editor. Today the editorial in professional journals also serves other functions. Many editorials are concise critical reviews of scientific topics, particularly topics that represent recent developments. The editorial may also be used for comment on an original paper published in the same issue. The commentary may critically assess the paper for its scientific validity, may disagree with the interpretation of the data reported, may put the paper=s contribution into perspective with other very recently reported findings that could not be taken into account when the paper was written, or may speculate on implications of the paper for...show more content... The length of an editorial, the number of paragraphs, depend on how complex a problem it considers, the amount of evidence it examines, and the number of possible answers. Some editorials may consist of only one paragraph and yet carry the main elements of argument in their natural sequence. The opening paragraph states the first element of the argument: >The problem or Question=. Most readers will need more than a simple statement of the problem. Experts on the subject will know what new events or new knowledge led to awareness that a problem needs an answer, but most editorials are not written for a small number of experts. The question of how much background information to include in the lead–in to the statement of the problem is probably best answered as it is for the Introduction to a research paper. The editorialist should assume that readers know less than he does about the topic of the editorial but are well informed on the larger subject field within which the topic lies. The author of an editorial on the usefulness of laparotomy in staging Hodgkin=s disease should assume that the reader knows less than experts experienced with this use of laparotomy but is well informed in general on recent developments in Hodgkin=s disease and knows the meaning of >laparotomy= and of >staging=. The editorialist can then open the editorial with a brief summary of the not–entirely–satisfactory of the methods for staging or with a summary of the current controversy Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Sport Psychology Essays Sport Psychology In earlier days sports psychology was mostly concerned with developing assessment methods that would identify those people with the potential to become serious superior athletes. Today the focus is on psychological training, exercises that strengthen the mental skills that will help athletic performances on the path to excellence. These skills include mental imagery and focus training. If an athlete is serious about becoming the best he or she can possibly be, the most essential ingredient is commitment to practice the right things. It takes incredible commitment to reach the top: a commitment to rest and train the body so it can perform under the most demanding conditions and a commitment to train the mind to...show more content... Visualization is a common term used to describe guided imagery or the process of forming images in our mind like pictures or moves, images recreating our best performances, and the way it feels to perform just the way we want it to. These images can be visual, kinesthetic– how our body feels, tactile–how it feels to the touch, auditory–how it sounds, even olfactory–what we smell. Using mind power we can call upon these images over and over, enhancing skill through repetition rehearsal. The mind and body can become more prepared to actually perform the skill, and can improve both physical and mental reactions in certain situations. The developing athletes, who make the fastest progress and who ultimately become their best, make extensive use of mental imagery. They use it daily, as a means of directing what will happen in training, and as a way of pre–experiencing their best competition performances. Mental imagery often starts out simply, as you think though your goals, your moves, and your desired competitive performances. Kelly Kryczka, former world champion in synchronized swimming duet discuses the use of on site imagery. "We did a lot of imagery during training sessions, especially as the competition approached. When we were doing compulsory figures in practice, a minute before doing certain ones the coach would say, "Okay, you are going to do a best one. You are going to do a whole compulsory Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. POlitical Campaign Advertising Essays Since 1952, television has played a major role in presidential elections. Television allows candidates to reach a broad number of people, and personalities, to help push along their campaigns. Campaigns help the candidates just as much as the voters. The candidates get to be identified, and known to the voters, and the voters get to hear and see how a specific candidate identifies with their needs and wants. The best way to get this information out there is through the most used form of media, television. When candidates develop a plan of attack for campaign advertising, they tend to aim for at least four types of commercials. One form or type of commercial is those which play on the fears of countrymen. Fear...show more content... During the 2004 election, President Bush's campaign ads showed him to be a leader and a strong president in a time when leadership was needed. Kerry's ad showed him to be a people person, and a person who connects with the citizen of this country. Political parties also use ads that make there opponent out to be the bad guy, and often these ads come from what their opponent has said in the past. Candidates use information from the past to display the image that there opponent can not be trusted and will go back on his or her word. This is typically called "flip flopping". When candidates make there opponent out to be a flip flopper, the opponent is making things worst for themselves. The Republican Party ran a series of ads that made Senator Kerry look like a flip flopper, and I think the overall effective ness of those ads was a major factor in the election, but Senator Kerry also stated his claims and told the voter how he fells on the very same issues that the republican party made senator Kerry to look indecisive on. Campaigns that are introducing a candidate to mainstream national coverage tend to run ads that will show a candidates history and their background. These ads might list what some might call the qualification needed to be in office. These ads usually show a record of good decision making, leadership, honesty, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Pro-Life Essay examples Pro–Life English I 1 Abortion, when the topic comes up, it is usually something people do not like to discuss. People may tend to avoid this issue for fear of offending or angering others but it is extremely important that the horrors of this brutal practice be addressed. During the years 1965–1996 over 515 million babies have been murdered, this is if you add the number of chemical and surgical abortions (www.rockforlife.org). This is what we need to understand: abortion kills and we need to know where it came from. The legalization of abortion started in Mississippi in the year 1966; it was used in the cases of rape. Then other states began to expand the use of abortion. For instance, if it was the case of rape, ...show more content... One way is called Partial Birth Abortion (D&X); it can kill babies up to thirty–two weeks old. The abortionist (murderer in this case) removes all of the baby from the mother except for the head, he then jab a pair of scissors in the back of the babies skull and then he uses a suction hose to suck out the babies brain. Then he uses forceps to crush the babies' skull and pull the rest of the babies' body out. Salt poisoning is also used, where salt is injected and the bay dies of convulsions due to salt poisoning (www.rockforlife.org). If they can say this is not murder, then what is? Abortion is not painless for the mother either. Over ninety–seven percent of women have reported feeling pain it is often described as intense, severe, or very severe. Abortion is also not without side effects. Complications such as bleeding, hemorrhaging, menstrual disturbances or inflammation of the reproductive organs. • 17. Stay At Home At Least One Parent Should Work from Home One of the things that have been baffling in this generation is the sudden deviation of morals and discipline between the present generation and the past generations. Many explanations have been emerging on the case of this sudden change of norms and ideals that has not been witnessed before but one thing is common in them all; we are not headed to the right direction, not only for the technological advancements but specifically in the family life compared to the past generations. This is why it is important to know what made the families of past generations mark what is lacking in the current generation. The answer is simple but profound. The past generations did not focus so much on making...show more content... However, it is important to note that such time and opportunity can only be accessed where one parent works from home (Balter 118). Secondly, where one parent works from home, affords at one spouse the freedom of dictating their schedules since there is the benefit of flexible hours of work. In the hustling mode of the 21st Century and the stresses that come with working in formal business employment, it has become virtually impossible for an employed person to dictate their hours or schedules. For instance, in an employment set up where the demands of the employer are that an employee should be at their work station from 8:00 A.M up to 5:00 P.M from Monday to Friday, the employee will have such a rigid working schedule that they can do virtually nothing apart from their formal employment between the stated hours of business (Koesters 280). Apart from creating a monotonous system of life, such set ups deny a parent to have any form of meaningful relationship with their children since, if the work place is far from home and requires the parents to leave early so that to arrive on time, probably they will leave before the children awake to go to school and arrive back at night while the children have gone to sleep. This is directly contradicted by a scenario where at least one parent work from home and therefore having the benefit to dictate their working hours and at least represent the other parent in handling important family matters that would otherwise Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Editorial Review for "Bias" Essay Don't Let the Facts Stand in the Way of a Good Story!(Editorial Review for Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News) After twenty–eight years working for CBS, Bernard Goldberg decided that he no longer wanted to work for a news station he didn't admire. Thus, he resigned and began work on his book Bias; a book in which he merely draws attention to the media for reporting from a leftist perspective, preventing the audience from receiving an objective, unbiased view of what really goes on in our world. As an "old–fashioned liberal," as he calls himself, he does not attempt to gain conservative support...show more content... Goldberg does a great job of integrating all perspectives and sides when writing his book. As well, he has surely done his share of research. He cites numerous newspaper and magazine articles, as well as quote upon quote upon quote from CBS insiders and fellow reporters. He refers to the constant refusal to have a single left–winger be labeled as "liberal" anywhere in the news, while always labeling those on the right as "conservative." He laughs at how the news has introduced Catherine MacKinnon (who once implied that all sexual intercourse was rape) as a "noted law professor" while Phyllis Schlafly is a "conservative spokeswoman" (CBS This Morning, 1981). By the same token, the Wall Street Journal's editorial page is conservative, but the equivalent editorial page in the New York Times is simply "middle of the road," as the Dan (CBS's nickname for Dan Rather) so elequently puts it. But the fascinating reason why this book is so compelling is not just what is being said, but by whose mouth it is spewing from. Aformer CBS news correspondent for nearly three decades, Goldberg is surely not conservative. His motive is not to gain conservatives' approval. In fact, his own political views, being that he's pro–choice, pro–gay marriage, and he has never voted for Ronald Reagan (a fact he mentions quite frequently), make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
