The document discusses the various media technologies and software programs the author used at different stages of their media project. They used Wordpress to create a blog to display their coursework and receive feedback. PowerPoint was used for presentations and Publisher was used to create mockups, though it was less professional than Adobe programs. Adobe Premier Pro was key for editing video and After Effects was used for titles. Photoshop edited images and InDesign created the magazine cover. Internet Explorer provided research sources and a way to share work through YouTube for additional feedback.
1. How did you use media technologies in
the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
2. Wordpress
Wordpress is an online company that provides
anyone with the chance of creating their own
blog, throughout the year I have used my blog to
display my coursework.
A useful feature within
Wordpress is that you
can customise your own
blogs style by selecting
themes and devising
categories, therefore
once I put the time in to
organize my categories it
became easy to find
previous bits of work,
e.g. research, to
reference when any
problems arose.
Wordpress provides the
opportunity to publish
images, text, audio files, and
videos. This was extremely
useful this year due to the
fact that I had to work on lots
of different mediums to form
my ancillary texts and
product.
Wordpress blogs can
also provide a great
platform for receiving
audience feedback
via polls and
comments, this has
allowed me to make
informed decisions on
both my trailer and
target audience, as
well as get feedback
from my teacher
easily.
3. Microsoft
Power Point.
Throughout this process I have used power point as a
presentation software to get some of my research and
evaluations across. PowerPoint is especially useful as you can
post them on Wordpress in two different ways; you can use
online software such as slide share to insert a basic skeleton
or you can time animations and sound to insert the power
point as a video.
Publisher
This Microsoft programme provides an easy way to
produce JPEG files that can be posted as images on
my blog. Due to this I heavily used publisher to publish
my research so that I could easily edit it and see the
final product before posting it. I also used it to initially
mock up my poster and magazine cover, as it is much
simpler to use than it's adobe equivalents, however it's
end product isn't quite as professional.
Word
Arguably one of the simplest
programmes from Microsoft an
my least used, the only time I
really used word was to mock
up any posts that I was going to
write so that I could use spell
and grammar check to prevent
silly mistakes.
4. Adobe
Premier Pro.
The core part of my project has been the assembling and filming
of a trailer, therefore the adobe editing software premier pro was
key to my construction. I used this programme to edit camera
work within my trailer e.g. duration/speed, as well as the
transitions between shots. Premier pro also gave me the
opportunity to edit sound to go as a backing track, however I did
end up scrapping this due to the fact that it didn't in keep with
the feel of the trailer.
Photoshop.
This programme was
extremely useful in editing
images for my ancillary texts
including changing
colour, saturation and
removing background. I
actually designed my poster
completely on after effects
after a publisher trial run.
InDesign.
I used InDesign to create
my magazine cover due to
the fact that it can produce
a very professional looking
product and has all the
tools that you could need,
e.g. text, shapes, image
editing.
After Effects.
As an adobe product this was
easily the most complex but
also one of the best, I used it to
create my ident and my title for
my trailer, the programme would
also have been useful for the
idea I had of using a green
screen although that didn't
materialise.
5. Internet Explorer
Internet explorer was my choice in server over
Google-chrome, it provided the backbone for me
to find my research both by gaining primary data
and existing products.
Combined with Google
images, internet explorer
provided me with the
opportunity to find existing
products to analyse existing
magazines, posters and
trailers, identifying trends an
patterns that my products
should conform to.
Internet explorer also
provided me the
opportunity to gain
feedback on my product
and to get the
views/preferences of my
target audience in
relation to decisions that
I was going to make
through online
polls, questionnaires and
even Facebook groups.
Through this browser I also
managed to upload
different stages of my trailer
and alternative idents to
YouTube, this allowed
another way of getting
feedback and a much
larger platform for people to
watch my trailer. This gave
the possibility of gaining
feedback from those who
didn't know me or my
previous work.
