12. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:12
On the first day of the Festival of
Unleavened Bread, when it was
customary to sacrifice the Passover
lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him,
“Where do you want us to go and make
preparations for you to eat the
Passover?”
13. Exodus 12:7,13
Then they are to take some of
the blood and put it on the
sides and tops of the
doorframes of the houses
where they eat the lambs.
The blood will be a sign for
you on the houses where you
are, and when I see the
blood, I will pass over you.
No destructive plague will
touch you when I strike Egypt.
14. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:13-16
So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go
into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water
will meet you. Follow him. Say to the owner of
the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where
is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover
with my disciples?’ He will show you a large room
upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations
for us there.” The disciples left, went into the city
and found things just as Jesus had told them. So
they prepared the Passover.
15. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 11:1-3
As they approached Jerusalem and came to
Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of
Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying
to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and
just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied
there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it
and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are
you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and
will send it back here shortly.’”
16. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:13-16
“Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar
of water will meet you. Follow him. Say
to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The
Teacher asks: Where is my guest room,
where I may eat the Passover with my
disciples?’ He will show you a large room
upstairs, furnished and ready. Make
preparations for us there.”
17. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:17-18
And when it was evening, he came with
the twelve. And as they were reclining at
table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I
say to you, one of you will betray
me, one who is eating with me.”
18. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:19
They began to be sorrowful and to say to
him one after another, “Is it I?”
19. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:20
He said to them, “It is one of the
twelve, one who is dipping bread into the
dish with me.”
20. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:21
For the Son of Man goes as it is written of
him, but woe to that man by whom the Son
of Man is betrayed! It would have been
better for that man if he had not been born.
21. Jesus’ Final Steps
“Lord, I was just carrying out your will
as foretold by the prophets. You should
thank me for doing what I did. If I had
not betrayed Jesus, he would have
never been arrested, tried, crucified.
And without the shedding of blood
there’s no remission of sin!”
Judas
22. How do we put these
two truths together?
How can they be
reconciled in our minds?
If God is truly
sovereign over all, then
how in the world can
man be held responsible
for his decisions?
23. R.C.
Sproul
“In these events, we see the
intersection between the
secret counsel of God and the
schemes of the human will. In
God’s providence, what we
call the mystery of
concurrence occurred. Two
streams came together – the
sovereign will of God and the
earthly will of human flesh.”
24. R.C.
Sproul
“It is not as though God in his
sovereignty forced Judas to
carry out the evil act of
betraying Jesus. Rather, the
sovereign God worked His will
in and through the choices of
His creature. Judas did
exactly what Judas wanted to
do, but God brought good
out of evil, redemption
out of treachery!”
25. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:22-24
And as they were eating, he took bread,
and after blessing it broke it and gave it
to them, and said, “Take; this is my
body.” And he took a cup, and when he
had given thanks he gave it to them, and
they all drank of it. And he said to them,
“This is my blood of the covenant, which
is poured out for many.
28. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:25
Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of
the fruit of the vine until that day when I
drink it new in the kingdom of God.
“This year in Jerusalem, next year
in the kingdom.”
29. Jesus’ Final Steps
Mark 14:26
And when they had sung a hymn, they
went out to the Mount of Olives.

and sky fled away, and no place was found
for them. And I saw the dead, great and
small, standing before the throne, and books
were opened. Then another book was
opened, which is the book of life. And the
dead were judged by what was written in the
books, according to what they had done.

Revelation 20:13-15
And the sea gave up the dead who were in
it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who
were in them, and they were judged, each
one of them, according to what they had
done. Then Death and Hades were thrown
into the lake of fire. This is the second death,
the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not
found written in the book of life, he was
thrown into the lake of fire.
