2. 1) MEANING & USE
The simple past is the tense
used in the English language
to narrate events that occurred
at a specific time in the past.
Corresponds in its meaning to
the simple past perfect in
Spanish
We use it with adverbs of time
like "last year", "yesterday",
"last night"

3. 2) FEATURES OF SIMPLE PAST
• -It Indicates the action taken at a specific time in the past.
• -The main verb of the sentence is always in the past.
• -It has a simple composition of "subject and predicate verb".
• -It is the only grammatical tense that uses verbs in the past.
• -The predicate can use expressions that determine the time
of the sentence, such as, “yesterday”, “last night”, “last
week”, “this morning”,

4. 3) TYPES OF PAST TENSE
VERBS:
Regular: they are the verbs that end with “-ed”, for example:
*Studied * walked *washed *cleaned
Irregular: they are the verbs that change their forms in past
tense and in past participle, for example:
*ate *drank *wrote *saw
