completethepicture.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU
Our mission is to collaborate with community
partners to mobilize resources, finding
sustainable solutions that lead to a higher
quality of life.
Our vision is that through a united effort,
every Brazoria County resident will be
educated, financially sound and healthy.
OUR MISSION & VISION
EDUCATION
We work to create opportunities for children
to excel in school and provide after-school
and mentoring programs for at-risk youth.
HEALTH
We increase access to critical healthcare
services, help reduce substance abuse, child
abuse and domestic violence, and endeavor
to increase health education and preventive
care.
THE GOALS
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
UWBC staff raises funds throughout the year
to support programs that reach our goals for
Brazoria County. Your investments through
workplace campaigns, corporate gifts,
individual gifts and drive donations are the
fuel for moving from goal to reality.
COMMUNITY IMPACT (OUTREACH)
UWBC staff collaborates with nonprofit
organizations, government and community
leaders to identify our neighbors’ needs and
match resources to them to make lasting
change.
VOLUNTEERISM
Our Community Partners are able to reach
great heights with the power of volunteers.
Withoutdedicatedindividualsandcompanies
who volunteer, UWBC and our Community
Partners would not be as strong and effective.
INITIATIVES
UWBC has jump-started and supported
several initiatives throughout the years and
we continue to see success in these avenues.
Here are some of the initiatives we have:
• Disaster Recovery and Response
• Earned Income Tax Credit Initiative
(EITC)
• FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card
Program
• Financial Stability Classes
• Helpline Information and Referral
• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
WHAT UWBC DOES
INCOME
We support financial education, helping
hardworking people obtain job training and
family-sustaining wages.
BASIC NEEDS
We support basic needs such as rent, utility,
food and clothing assistance and increase
access to affordable housing for individuals
and families.
$5
per week = screening
mammogram for an uninsured,
low-income woman
$10
per week = 24 hourly
sessions of therapy for a
victim of child abuse
$20
per week = 72 hours of case
management for clients ready
for life change
Addressing poverty is a complex issue.
According to the state KIDS COUNTER partner,
“although unemployment rates are low [in
Texas], 29 percent of children live in families
where no member of the household has full-
time, year-round employment. While
navigating their own family challenges, an
increasing number of young people are also
growing up in neighborhoods that lack the
resources they need to thrive... The state
ranks 46th
nationally for the percent of children
living in high-poverty areas.”
What does that mean to UWBC? Simply put,
we have a lot of work to do. Collectively, we
need people, resources and organizations
that collaborate on sustainable solutions for
systematic changes that impact our
community as a whole. We invite you to LIVE
UNITED.
CHANGE IS POSSIBLE
When you give to UWBC’s Community Imact
Fund, we are able to multiply the value of your
gift. Your gift, partnered with others, makes a
tremendous impact in our community.
