3. Theodor Seuss Geisel more
common known as Dr Seuss
was born in 1904 in Howard
Street, Springfield
Massachusetts in America.
He developed a connection with his Mum’s
nursery rhymes and his hometown environment.
This inspired him to write kids’ books. When he
was a child it was hard for him because of WWI
and his Mum and Dad being German. After the
war his childhood became a happier time.
4. During his time in
Dartmouth College, he
got caught drinking
during the prohibition
and had to use a
pseudonym to write in
a magazine. This was
Dr Seuss. Theodor
went to Oxford in
England, meeting his
first wife there. He was
bored at Uni and
dropped out touring
Europe instead.
5. He got in to drawing cartoons for another
author. This lead to his first book: And to
Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street, followed
by The Cat In The Hat which was the way
he became famous. He wrote over 60
children books and some are turned into
movies.
6. Dr Seuss won many awards including 2 Academy
Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and a
Pulitzer Prize. Dr Seuss is well remembered for his
achievements, eventually dying at the age of 87 in 1991.
His stories, however, will continue to delight children all
over the world.
